I myself am a survivor and, I don't really know how to express this adequately, but I've always FELT this song was about the rape. It sorta landed on me one day and said, "This is it." Kinda a Me And A Gun, Pt. 2 the way I'm seeing it. I'm sorry I can't shed more light on this, but it's something I'm still learning how to talk about. Maybe someone else can do a better job. But I KNOW inside what Tori was really talking about in this song. So the Thelma and Loise reference (very clever, I might add) really did it for me and gave me something to go on. But it's just the whole thing about being alone in this tiny, kinda scary house by the woods, and you're just coming out of those woods. The Black Dove is kinda her dark little secret--she's holding back a little on us here--and it's beginning to fly in different ways, but it's still a dove nonetheless. And it's just that terror coming back to her and manifesting itself through different people and different events. So, that's always been my feeling with the song. Sorry, that's all I can really offer right now. - --JOE >Date: Mon, 1 Mar 1999 11:14:33 EST >From: Pixieqwien@aol.com >Subject: Re: blue blue dress > >In a message dated 2/28/99 12:22:46 PM Eastern Standard Time, pigs@swva.net >writes: > ><< ok, most people have > said that the "blue blue dress" line in Black-Dove was her wedding dress. >> > > >Okie I dont know if anyone has brought this Theory up and I dont know where it >orginated but it actually sounds very reasonable to me.
