It's not about Tori at all. It's about a woman from an African tribe that practices female circumcision (mutulation of the female genitalia). Tori has said how this book had a strong influence on her, and is one of her favorite books. She's also said that Cornflake Girl was written with much influence from the book. In the movie Thelma and Lousie Suzanne Sarandon (either Thelma or Louise I think Louise though) was avoiding going throught texas at ALL costs when they were on the run from the law...and she did this because she didnt want to deal with past memories of her being raped...so relating to Tori they said that they though that Tori was interpreting that to get married she had to go back and deal with those memories "get back to texas"....wade through that first.... It's not "inside the heard" it's "inside the heart". What Tori is talking about is that these perfect, pretty girls are fascists: you have to like like they look, think like they think, act like they act, to be accepted. If not, they take their nails and rip you to shreds, at least figuratively. This part of the song is a harbinger of the theme of women betraying women that is so much a part of the next album, UtP. It is also another "precious thing," another thing the narrator should just let "wash away." The precious things in PThings really aren't precious and you have to wonder why we hold onto to those kinds of memories so tightly. That's my take on that section, anyway. Meg, I hope that helps you. I don't think it was a stupid question at all. Pthings is one of my faves, as well. ItSoHV mixes are so so. i like hearing the layers there also. other remixes or versions like crucify (which i actually don't like) are great for a change. i liked the dakota mix of hey jupiter more. i think the music made it sound more desperate but i love the original as well. i love both talulas for different reasons. the bt mix (not tornado) is ok but i have to be in a mood. wow i babbled!! sorry but i thought i'd voice some opinions on mixes b/c a lot of people seem to either love them or hate them and at first i really hated them (some) and i grew to love em! sarah _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? Get your free @yahoo.com address at http://mail.yahoo.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 01 Mar 1999 09:54:15 -0600 From: Soraya Quiroga Subject: Definitive Tori songs? So I have these 2 girlfriends, Alane and Lara, that don't know eachother and that I don't see very often, and this past weekend the grooviest thing happened: they both said Tori was their favorite singer. I freaked and started babbling about my collection and dropping Tori facts and Net facts like a real pro :-P Then I realized they had no idea what I was talking about. Lara only has one Tori CD (LE) and went to her concert in Dallas last October. As I spoke to her she said she still gets goosebumps when she thinks about it. This from someone who has never heard a bside or BfP! It was shocking! But at the same time, I really admired the purity of her...well, admiration. She sincerely believes that Tori is her favorite singer and she really gets something emotionally out of the music. She reminds me a lot of me right before I got on the Net and collected all these boots in a feverish frenzy. Lara thought booting was still about some drunk with a mini-cassette recorder down his pants in the balcony! Isn't that sweet? And Alane...a few years ago a friend I'll never forget (Damon Molder, are you out there?) gave me a copy of Forgotten Earthquakes...back then it wasn't even called that and there wan't a color liner, etc...anyway Alane kind of stole it from me because she fell in love with it..and someone stole it from her eventually. All this time it has stuck in her head and she finally got engaged to this guy after finding the Crucify single in his collection (good enough reason to say yes, don't you think?). She played Thank You during the ceremony. That's the only Tori she has. So to make this absurdly long story short, I have decided to make them a Tori tape. I want to include "definitive" Tori songs, whatever they may be, bsides, live versions. I'm asking you guys for suggestions. I'm thinking about 20-24 songs will fit on this tape. I have a pretty good collection, so don't worry about whether or not I'll have it. After I tally it up I'll post the results. I think it will be interesting to see what the fans consider to be her most "important" or moving pieces, those songs that grabbed us and didn't let go. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 1 Mar 1999 23:30:44 EST From: Thisbe5716@aol.com Subject: Another Tori Sighting FYI - There is a picture of Tori (looking fabulous, BtW) in a new book of photography from "US" magazine. Nothing against the remix, but the fact that they took out ItSoHV to put an extra track. Was it necessary? Did Atlantic think it was a good idea for promoting album sales, considering Professional Widow's Star Funkin' whatever hit #1 a few times? She had said how each song is like a body part, like Isis gathering the parts of Osiris...I think those are the correct gods and goddesses (correct me if I'm wrong)...I know she spoke of this in the March issue of SPIN in 1996 ("Hammer of the Goddess"). I remember the first day I ever heard Tori Amos, and I'm 99% positive that BfP was my first Tori cd...I do remember that I bought it the day it came out. I was looking through Billboard Magazine at work tonight (I love the fact that I get paid for this!) and came across this review of the new JS Remixes: "Atlantic's long-established chanteuse Tori Amos follows up the underground club success of "Raspberry Swirl" with the equally sublime "Jackie's Strength." Culled from Amos' essential new album, this song is, without question, the singer's most commercially viable club - and radio - track. Underground club punters will salivate over Albert Cabrera's One Rascal dubs, while trance-leaning popsters will gravitate toward Warren Rigg's deft Wedding Cake mix. Such orchestral beauty doesn't come along everyday. Of course, neither does the unmistakable voice of Amos." Chanteuse!!!! Don't you just love it?? Thought I'd share. Hmm... or "Next Lifetime"... that's a song about a relationship... which Tori is very good with expressing emotions about that through lyrics *and* music. ANyways... I just thought that whoever posted that had a VERY interested suggestion. Any comments???
