[Little Water Nymph Subject: Way Down has been found (Live Tape Stuff) Alright, some very nice person went through a lot of the DDI setlists and found a show for me where Tori played Way Down. Unfortunately, she doesn't have this show on boot, so of course I turn to you guys. I'm looking for Dayton, OH 8/3/96. Anyone who has this or any other boot with Way Down on it, PLEASE mail me. Having this song is kinda crucial to the whole live album collection...Or something. =) Alright, time for sleep. Whoa! It does kind of sound like it, but it sounds more like "Unleash the plague" instead of 'Release the plague' to me. Hmmmmmm.... I know what you're saying but I really don't think that would happen if she won the Grammy. She can control whether or not she sells out. And she has already talked about the fact that if she sells out, her fan base is gonna go byebye. No, she doesn't need a Grammy to prove anything, but I don't think that if she gets one, she'll turn into Miss Marketing Scheme. Tori's got an awful lot of strong will, and I don't think even Atlantic or Arthur Spivak or anyone else can force her to make music that isn't from her heart. She's been down that path, and didn't take very well to it. :] So worry not, my friend. This woman has a lover, someone who is popular >in the town where they live. She shares the details of her affair. The confrontation >with the priest could mean that he is the one who forced her to leave town or >that he is the father of her child....I like to think that it is both! ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 8 Jan 1999 11:41:53 EST From: Blood4Rose@aol.com Subject: the videos i personally loved all the videos. ~~Blood4Rose@aol.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 08 Jan 1999 01:09:19 PST From: "Ryan -" Subject: Bravo Thomas Mazorlig!!! Thomas Mazorlig wrote: That analysis of the male figures on BfP was awesome! I don't know if I agree, but you make a very astute, provocative argument. I've never thought about it myself. What struck me about BfP was all the queer imagery and references. You have references to several starlets (Jean Harlow, Talula Bankhead, Judy Garland) and prominent usage of the words queer and gay (Blood Roses, Hey Jupiter). Although I think all of this is significant, it's always baffled me as to what Tori was getting at by the inclusion of these references. Can anyone shed some light on this subject? Tom I think this is one of the most incredibly perseptive/intelligent questions I've reads in a long while here. I think another reference to homosexuals is in Not the Red Baron which I feel is about AIDS. When she notes Judy G. and red ribbons(AIDS ribbons?) and another pilot down/into the flames(dying). Thomas made an incredible observation and I've listened to BFP a billion times and never really saw this. There is a theory, I can't cite specific books, but I can find out if somebody's interested...but anyway, some people think that Judas felt bad about deceiving Jesus and died on the cross in His place. I don't know if that's what she's referring to or not. That possibly Judas was crucified and Mary Magdalene sheltered Jesus and He emerged from her "shelter" as his revival. Granted, this idea doesn't explain the empty tomb, but I guess some things we'll never know, some things only she knows. The party's over, I know...but anyhoo, I've been going through Tori websites lately and after a few days I have yet to even make progress on getting through them. :) I'm looking for good realaudio or mp3's of studio versions of bee sides. I'm having problems with tal.org, are there any other sites? I remember one that I went to ages ago that I think was australian (not planet tori) but I can't remember the url. On Courtney's idea about Tori's acceptance speech: very cute! I think she'd most likely tote along a stuffed animal and introduce him to everyone. She'll probably say something to piss off the religious right... "I'm surprised because I never fucking win these things" and then she'll try to figure out exactly what she can do with the award itself, and what it can be used for. I can't imagine her just saying "thank you ", she'd probably say "I wouldn't sound half as good without my sound engineers and the best pianos in the world. And nobody'd know who the hell I was without the faeries and all you little shamen ears with feet out there." she'd pat her heart or make some kind of adorable gesture and leave with her stuffed animal. (Of course, she might say "I never need a reason to go have a glass of Chardonnay but now I've got a damn good one.") Just some thoughts. :) Erin ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 07 Jan 1999 21:00:20 -0500 From: Nadyne Mielke Subject: Re: Take to the sky At 01:16 PM 1/7/99 -0500, Diatusrex@aol.com wrote: > >Hi guys, > >I was wondering if anyone had any info on the costs and availability of people >living outside the UK on joining Take to the Sky fanzine.. >I've tried looking everywhere on the web and have found no sites with any real >info on it. Now, I'm not saying that just because I love Tori, I'm going to love everything she does (which seems to be the case for me, but we can ignore that for now...) but the videos are awesome, IMHO. Oi, oi, oi, I'm not trying to come down on Raspberry Swirl boy, but ummmmmm, SATY is a masterpiece!!!! I can't say enough good things about it...the first time I saw this video many years ago, I just cried. I think its beautiful... Another one that left me open mouthed and practically in shock for about 3 hours after the first time I saw it was Hey Jupiter....I dont know, maybe its a personal thing, but that video moved me a lot. Past the Mission...ok, I will admit that the first couple of times I viewed this, I was like, ummm, ok??? But after seeing it several other times, I think I'm getting it...and it becomes more powerful every time I see it. Who said it put a different perspective on the song as a whole? I agree...i love the song, and the video makes me view the song completely differently. Cornflake Girl vidoes and Raspberry Swirl...they just make me laugh because they're so TRUE!!!! haha... Spark and Jackie's Strength...ok, wow. I adore those videos...especially Spark. jackie;s strength leaves me with an eerie feeling...not a bad eerie feeling, but a good eerie feeling, sorta...ok, so i make no sense. (moving onto things that do make sense.....) I dont know, I just can't see the LE videos as boring. They may be slow moving, but I don't thinkthat makes them boring in any way. Considering where these songs came from...almost revealing the blood, sweat, and tears of a woman, i think the videos are quite appropriate. Blood, sweat and tears are not visually appealing things...these songs are almost bearing the naked soul of a woman (pardon the cheesy expression)...and i think the videos reveal that...while the LE videos *are* visually appealing at times, they are kinda naked compared to Tori's later videos, but I wouldnt want it any other way... ok, those are my thoughts... BY THE WAY..ahhhhhhh!!!! If you haven't, go out and buy Stardust...Neil's new book...and THANK YOU JOSH!!
