Everytime I hear the song that's what I hear, and I'm convinced that's how it really goes. Well^Å..almost. But the song does make more sense that way^Å.IMHO. I searched for Tori Amos and it brought up so many I couldn't begin to count... Anyway, the address for this heaven is, http://www.oth.net. Check it out. As soon as Tori came on, he >jumped onto the floor and started jumping over chairs and people to get to >the stage... Hrm... I can just IMAGINE what Tori would think about something like that. Not to mention, it's not very, er, tactful. Beth, you should've gotten up and kicked some ass. =) I have just one question. Does anyone here think Tori REALLY wants to see the same damn people every show she goes to? I should think not; because that is NOT the reason that she does the m&g. Matter of factly, if all of this talk is true about every show (it wasn't really like this at Bethlehem too badly), then I really do believe this may be the real reason that there were supposed to be no more m&g's. >It must disturb her to know that some of the people she sees all the time are taking time from others. Well, I don't know about Tori, but it would certainly disturb ME. I don't guess that personally I have a whole lot to complain about because out of five years of being a Tori fan Bethlehem was my first show, and things there weren't really bad because there were only about 50 people beforehand. I was dissapointed that I didn't meet Tori, but not everyone gets to the first time they go to a show. I didn't get an autograph either, but the same is true for autographs. What I did find quite sad, though, was that several people in the front row have met Tori several times and this is just plain selfish. I am happy to say though that the person numbered '1' at the m&g hadn't ever met Tori before and she finally did and I really think she deserved it. (hugs4Corinne) Hopefully I'll have another chance to meet Tori someday, or at the very least get a signature or something. All I really wanted to do was tell her how much her music means to me, and how great of an artist she is. Maybe by the time the next tour comes around, those that are so selfish will have grown up a bit more and let someone else have a chance. I don't mean that they shouldn't GO, just let someone else in the front row for once. I'm going away now but I don't want to end this on a bitter note because I'm really not a complaining sort of person. I would like to say that at the m&g before and after the show I met so many awesome people that I was crunched up against... they were all so great and I wish I could see some of them again. LIST* Even though true greatness is nearly always indisputable, recognition is nice. It's even nicer when it is punctual (Van Gogh is with us on this one!), which is why we are so happy to announce that as part of "The 90 Greatest Albums Of the 90's" feature in the December 1998 issue, Alternative Press named Tori Amos's most recent release, FROM THE CHOIRGIRL HOTEL, the 26th best album of the 1990's. This honor becomes even more conspicuous when one considers that the vast majority of the albums included in the list were older releases whose "greatness quotients" have benefitted from the passage of time and the strength and reach of the legacy of their influence. That critics (who are notoriously tentative about heaping this level of accolade on "new" albums) selected an album as recent as "...CHOIRGIRL HOTEL" is an affirmation of what Tori's fans knew all along: "FROM THE CHOIRGIRL HOTEL" is an instant, unmitigated classic. Well, interesting to me, anyway. :) Question number 1: aside from the tour, what is your favorite thing tori's done this year? I mean, recording, book, video, tv appearance. I guess the choices are pretty much FTCH, the singles of Spark, JS, and Jackie's Strength; FTCH sheet music, the anthology; the video collection, videos of the aforementioned singles; magazine articles in rolling stone, associated press, newsweek, the wedding story in people, etc.; tori's appearances on mtv live, roseanne, revue, newsstand, conan, leno, letterman, later...you get the idea. (you can put songs she does live or ones she hasn't done at all!) My answers: 1. Obviously, FTCH, but I'm really in love w/ the anthology right now. I loved the AP article. I like all the videos, too. 2. Hmm. I'd go with (most of these are "new" plugged versions) Iiee, Sugar, SATY (solo), Merman (for Matthew), Mary (I'd have to break my rule and pick the 10/15 version since it was for me!:D) , Putting the Damage On, Cornflake Girl w/ improv, Black-Dove, Playboy Mommy, Flying Dutchman, Past the Mission, Horses, Siren, Hotel, Alamo, Cooling, Famous Blue Raincoat, Landslide, Never Seen Blue, the Waitress, and I don't know what else... 3. This one needs some serious thought. :) Well, I'm anxious to hear your responses! Beene does backups on Take to the Sky.. She is listed as "bg vocals: Beene (Nancy Shanks) in the Winter single for Take to the Sky. And as far as staying behind the scenes.. I think so, except that Tori brought her out at the 10-23-96 show in (Miami?), when she wasn't feeling well... And I think Beene and her sang Me and a Gun together.. Anyone else remember that? I wasn't there, but I've heard about it a bit... Definitely Girl, Mary, Spark, Raspberry Swirl, Precious Things, The Waitress, Cooling, Flying Dutchman, Northern Lad, Merman, Hotel, Space Dog, Tear In Your Hand, Playboy Mommy, Yes, Anastasia, Siren... Although I could NEVER choose a favorite album (or song) of Tori's, because they each touch me tremendously in their own ways, I think I would want LE to be on the "best of..." list instead of FTCGH. I see LE as Tori's "blood, sweat, and tears" album. I mean, I know she put all those things into the other albums too. But LE documents a huge portion of her life. (And therefore, the life a woman.) I'm not sure why FTGCH was chosen over her others, but then again, mainstream America has never really understood Tori anyway. Maybe they thought LE was too "a girl and her piano" to be one of the best. FTCGH is by no means "mainstream," but it does have a full band, and maybe that's what they were looking for. No return address, no stamp- just a metered thing for 55 cents from indianapolis IN on November 3, 1998. All that is inside is a 8x10 black and white glossy of tori. its her in this tank-top/dress kind of thing. only shows to about her belly button. black thing around bust area and a black thing over her neck. one arm/hand is up. Looks like scratched glass/cobwebs in front of her. The bottom, of course, says TORI AMOS and there's a little atlantic symbol on it. And it's signed. Above the signature, on the pic part is a little smiley face and a squiggle of sorts. Nothing else in the envelope. Why/How did i get this? Is it from tori? Is it a mass standard thing that everyone gets? Any help appreciated....thanks in advance - -TypeOTori ps- respond privately of course, and if my mail box is full, could you please send response to carolindame@hotmail.com? thanks again ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 5 Dec 1998 14:38:58 EST From: GonaTwinkl@aol.com Subject: Re: as much as i like choirgirl........ hey all, as much as I love all the albums (I really have a VERY hard time picking a favorite) I think the reason they chose Choirgirl is because it is a lot more accesable for a lot of people. Also, it's because it is what's freshest in their minds and they have to pick something that is more mainstream. because this album has a consistent steady beat and music easier to follow it also makes it easier to classify it in a genre, whereas with the other three albums, they aren't really classifiable because of the subject matter and the constant variations on the music. Also because these three focused on tori and her piano. Where does the girl and the piano fit in today's music scene? not a lot of places. The girl and the guitar, yeah, but when you have just a female and something that has the potential to be so much stronger than a guitar it's so much harder to place. Anyways, that's my reasoning " I know I'm an acquired taste - I'm anchovies. And not everybody wants those hairy little things. I completely forgot how I signed up for this list, so could someone please tell me how a friend of mine can be on it? 2. I'm going on a hunt in the city for tori singles next week and I need to know if there are any singles of hers that are really rare that I should snap up right away and which will always be in the stores. It might be a while before I have the money to do this again so I want to use my money wisely. Also, if there is anyone in the Boston area that could recommend stores I would be grateful. 3. Does anyone know where I can hear merman online? I was at someone's sight once and heard it but I don't know how to get there anymore. I heard it before I joined this list and before I knew that it wasn't on any singles. I can't remember it anymore but it was so beautiful t made me cry. 4. Sometimes people mention posting to "both lists" or apologize for posting to the wrong one and I sort of have a stupid question about that. What is the other list? Okay that's all for now. Thank you Elizabeth (the other one :-) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 5 Dec 1998 14:18:54 -0500 From: becky Subject: Can I do this? Hi, all. Well, I'm certainly going to try. I'm going to attempt to write about the final two shows. I'm still shaken up that this is it for who knows how long. She might not tour again for a few years. Ouch. I think it's time for her to be a mommy. Grand Rapids: I felt a little sorry for the general admission people. I had actual seats and, although they were far away, I was able to hear perfectly and see the interactions between all the band members. Tori was wearing black with her sparkly apron. She looked lovely as always. They raised Mr. Puppethead up before the show began. I apologize that I'm going to be a bit distant with this review but it's hard to put everything into words without breaking down. That's why you're not getting many reviews at this point. We need tim to digest - as well as travel back to homes but I'm from Michigan, so, not a problem. Set List: Precious Things (I loved Caton with the blues brother look. Tori wasn't particularly vulnerable with this show. As a protection to us, as well to herself and the band.) iieee - this is incredible in concert. I just revel in it. She mentioned how she wanted to end the tour in Michigan because she had such a good time here with the last tour. Heh heh heh. Girl - nice. Mary - I had never heard this before. The last time I had seen Tori was in July and this was a completely different show. Past the Mission Hotel Secret Time: She didn't want to do the requests that people made. Good for her. It was a very "Little Earthquakes" night. China - lovely. Take to the Sky Icicle - this just makes me want to masturbate, so, you know. Band Returns: Bells for Her Graveyard Space Dog - this is great in concert. Spark The Waitress Encore 1: She's Your Cocaine Rasberry Swirl Encore 2: Crucify Cruel band leaves: Pretty Good Year - this was the only point of the show where I lost it. It was beautiful. All in all, it was a good show. The set list wasn't remarkable but it was an enjoyable show. Moving on to . . . .THE DAY. I'll write another e-mail so it's easier for you to read.
