I think it is indeed a Smith reference, because the next line about the trailer park -- Patt Smith "disappeared" for several years from the public eye, and raised a family. It's only been recently that she's really come out of the woodwork again. But she was definitely not living the high life during that time either, so the trailer park thing makes tons of sense. Plus, if Tori listened to Smith when she was younger, it would explain the entire feel of that bridge..."deck the halls, i'm young again" yadda yadda yadda. Any thoughts? I was looking through _All these Years_ the other day and spotted a really interesting quote. Tori was talking about how she asked Caton to go on the DDI tour to add another flavor but not spoil the intimacy. The quote I found interesting was, "I'm not ready for marriage:no band." So is there some connection between marriage and a band? I know she probably meant metaphorical marriage, as in being locked into the same musicians with you everywhere, but still....I have to wonder. :) Has anybody here listened to Emm Gryner's CD "Public?" It has a lot of LE similarities, if you ask me. There's one song with a vocal fill nearly identical to the one in China, (the one before the last verse, you know what I mean!) there's this one piano track "Acid" where her voice sounds eerily like Tori's in the bridge, and there's one song whose first line is "All the world's on hold inside this room...", and that song also includes lyrics that are something along the lines of "I pretend the pieces of you are gone." A lot of it is probably just that I'm so attuned to LE in general, but I do think there are some parallels...it's a really good CD, I would recommend it fully! Your reliable person is incorrect. Very few of the regulars are on any sort of guest list. The people I know buy their tickets and usually have the fortune to get floor seats. If Joel ever pulled anyone down to the floor, it had to be because Tori needed to see them in the audience. And usually what happens is that the regulars wait to see how many tickets on the guest list were unclaimed, and I dare say that's what those folks were waiting for. This sounds like Mark has listened to a lot of Orb, Orbital, more ambient Aphex Twin, and a lot of other "oldschool" Ambient/Trance artists, and he made a pretty good attempt at a good ambient trance track. I think it's stellar, and a wonderful track. If you want to perhaps "understand" this track a little better take a liten to Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works Vol 2, Orb's Orblivion or Journey Beyond the Ultraworld, and Orbital's first album (no title). Oh, and mostly yeah, ambient music is "druggie" music, cause often times whoever made the music is on some sort of recreational drug, hallucinogens are the most favored, and the music is also quite a lot "different" sounding when you're under the influence of some sort of drugs. (I'm gonna refrain from saying better, since not everyone digs drugs in the same way). ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 03 Dec 1998 17:47:45 -0500 (EST) From: s007jpg@desire.wright.edu Subject: Re: Meet and greet revisited (uh oh) hey there everyone, well, like many others, my meet&greet experience was VERY tainted this year because of the GROUPIES. i don't understand how these people (and you KNOW who you are, especially the female with the long brown hair that thought she was in charge of everything and more important than everyone else) could have been so inconsiderate to tori and all the rest of us. with much luck, the next tour won't be like this at all. i mean, hav ing to get the venue at 1am in order to try to meet tori at 4pm later that day.....RIDICULOUS!!!!!! some of us have jobs and responsibilities! luckily, i DID get to meet and talk to tori at the INDY meetand greet mainly because the groupies were NOT there! that's my 2 cents worth! if i offended you, then you were one of those people that made the tour experience of the meet&greet a very frustrating endeavour! christian ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 3 Dec 1998 23:06:01 -0600 From: "Marcus Lambert" Subject: "Jackie's Strength" video location letter Hi everyone, Well, I just got back from vacation in England and I got the letter concerning the filming of the "Jackie's Strength" video. I do not have a scanner, but I am going to see if my dad can scan it for me since he has one. Anyway, for now, here is what the letter says: FILMING NOTIFICATION Dear Resident, Please note that a medium size film crew is planning to come to Curzon Park ove the coming weekend to film part of a pop video for a singer called Tori Amos (you may have already noticed me wandering around the estate looking for the best spots). At the moment, it would seem that most of our filming will be concentrated on the old part of the estate and in particular the block that is Downland Road, Silbury Road, Oldbury Way and Wandsdyke Drive. We also plan to film some scenes outside 14 Silbury Road (Sunday morning), Savernake Drive (Sunday lunchtime) and another outside 19 Wandsdyke Drive (Saturday evening). These scenes should take no longer than 2-3 hours each to complete. On top of these, on Saturday morning, from 8:30am, we will spend about 5 hours filming inside 27 Wansdyke Drive. Our reason for wanting to film on this estate is because the script is set in Middle America and the estate, with it's detached bungalows, looks in part like it could be there. We will be bringing some American cars to park in the driveways of some of the above mentioned addresses, to add to this theme. The greatest disturbance from film shoots usually comes from the many vehicles which are involved, which is why we intend to park the majority of them in the field behind 44 Long Barrow Road (though we will need to keep camera and lighting truck with the filming unit, pretty much at all times). We are also very much aware that the estate is a peaceful place so we will endeavour to work as quietly as possible. As far as access to and from the estate is concerned, please rest assured that the roads will be kept clear at all times; Only when going for a take might we ask you to wait for one minute or so, until the director call "CUT!". If you have any objections, queries or concerns, then please do not hesitate to contact me on 0958 984 584, that's what I'm here for. We hope to have your full support, Xavier Wakefield Location Manager (for and behalf of Freedom Films) Pretty cool, huh?! Well, the neatest thing about the shooting is that my grandmother lives at 16 Wansdyke Drive which is directly across from 19 Wansdyke Drive, where they filmed some outside scenes. In the video, when they show the American flag, that is right by my grandmothers house! Also, the house they filmed inside, 27 Wansdyke Drive, is just a few houses down the street! The reason they filmed inside that house was because it was empty, and it still is! They renamed Wansdyke Drive "Montana Ave" and Oldbury Way "Lamont St" according to my grandmother. I took lots of video when I was there and have many of the same scenes that are in the video, which is kind of cool! The beginning and end of the video where filmed in the same place which is right at the entrance of the estate. If you look carefully towards the end of the video, you can see the main road and the cars going by! The lawn scene with the little child is at the entrance too. There is a house on the corner with a huge lawn. My grandparents know the person who lives there, as well as the people at 19 Wansdyke Drive. The very start of the video, after the Jackie Onassis footage, is inside 27 Wansdyke Drive, but when she opens the door, it cuts to outside the corner house with the big lawn, which I thought was rather clever! That's it!! I wish I had a package from tori :( so I got a little sad about that because I was jealous which is a bad thing but oh well. i can be petty sometimes if I want to. Well this tour I got to go to 3 shows my favorite being Eugene Or. where i was standing on the front row right in the center where tori made eye contact with me and sang a song I requested which was merman and at portland I got to give her a gift that I bought for her which were so cool well at least to me. one thing was a fairy print from 1915 and it was from a woman's magazine it was so beautiful. it was a lovely fairy queen that was embracing a red headed beautiful child it was a very touching print that I felt just compelled by the fae to get for tori. the other thing was a sheet music from 1920 or so that was in perfect condition called the fairy wedding waltz and since tori just married and the pictures on the front were pretty so I got that which I gave her at the portland or. show. I got to give her a letter there and when I got to talk to her in eugene i gave her another note telling her why I wanted to hear merman and goodbye and of course thankyou for helping me thru somethings in my life. I had ordered her another gift which i got in the mail the day I got home from the concerts grr. so i found a very nice person on this list who took the gift to her and another letter. this gift was a antique post card of a richly dress acient woman holding a mans head in a platter. i thought is was very funny and I thought tori would think so too. so I got my picture taken with tori in eugene and I am really sad that I didnt get to see her more and become someone that she reckonized and liked that is what I really want is to be one of the regulars that tori respects and loves one that stands back at meet and greets and tori waves hello too. maybe someday when I have more money to afford to go on tour with tori Iwill become that but I just couldnt this tour. well I am just feeling sad because ihave no other chance to see tori in concert or talk to her again for who knows how long. I just had ot share. (them being her friends, i guess beenie?) i remember it well, because i tought it was such a great line.. :)) love christina >> Okay. I know she said the whole "hair pie" thing, but if you can be hetro and not have/like the sex, why can't you be bi/homo and not have the sex. I think she has, at least at times, a relationship with her female friends that goes beyond an average friendship. Now, I'm not trying to put words into Tori's mouth, but that's what I've drawn from the song and the quotes about the song. But I guess my whole post here is stating the obvious...I just mainly wanted to point out that just because a person doesn't have lesbian sex doesn't mean that they don't have lesbian relationships. -Angelina ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 03 Dec 1998 19:50:26 PST From: "Luna 17" Subject: Re: track four..... >i'd love to hear an i i e e e remix.. :) That would be so amazing. I think they should take parts of Cruel and add it to iieee (like the I don't know why's and the really drawn-out why's). I also think that some heavy church bells would be great addition to the remix (as if I know anything about remixing). When we met, nobody had ever heard of her. I was at the San Diego comic convention -- it was the summer of 1991, and some guy gave me a tape. And he said, "This is done by a friend of mine and she sings about you on one of the tracks." Now, you have to understand that when I go to signings, people give me tapes. And mostly it's bad Sandman-inspired Scandinavian Death Rock: "Oh Morpheus come down from the heavens and bring your sister Death too, she's cute." That kind of thing. Well, I took it home. A couple of weeks later I got 'round to playing it. And it was Little Earthquakes. And I thought "This is brilliant! This is wonderful!" I phoned her up and said, "I think you're great! I think you should go professional!" And she said, "The record is coming out on Atlantic in January." So we hooked up and we've been friends ever since. on tori's fans: Gaiman: The only nonfiction piece that I've wanted to write in years is actually about Tori and her fans. I've wanted to go on the road with Tori for a couple of weeks and talk to a very specific part of her fan base, which are these very thin girls -- they're very pretty, and they're either thin or they're overweight, but normally they're thin -- and they're kind of damaged, and they're kind of quiet, and it's almost as if Tori speaks for them, and she empowers them in some way. She gets to be their voice. They fascinate me. g. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 03 Dec 1998 19:36:36 PST From: "Luna 17" Subject: Re: old lyrics... > I haven't heard a lot of patti smith, but know a little bit about her. It really could be a reference to her, the fact that she disappeared for a while and stopped making music. Anyone else know anymore about this? My friend saw some interview with Tori where she was talking about this song in particular, and I remember her telling me this long story about it, but I can't remember just what it was. I should see if she still remembers the story, because I don't think it was a Patti Smith thing. love, Reagan "Barn's burnt down-- now I can see the moon." -Masahide ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 03 Dec 1998 19:52:52 PST From: "Lavenda 1" Subject: Re: precious-things-digest V3 #414 Firstly, I just wanna ask if anyone knows where I can find some wav files or the like of Tori songs? Oh, and it has jsut come back to me a book I read as a kid... and i can't remember the name or author, so any help would be appreciated... there was a character that was a rabbit and it's name was Me. there was a scene where Me knocked at a door and was asked "who is it?", to which (it) of course replied Me, etc... replies.. these are going to be sort of out of order... on the discussion of "Hotel"... I have to thank Beth for posting the bits from 'Neverwhere' about the Velvets. I haven't read the book and am going to embark on a search for it, but you have helped to understand what people are talking about... before that jen posted that Tori had sung "Neil, where are you now", and suggested the song was about him. Perhaps, and knowing Tori it will be this and more, it's about both Neil and Neverwhere... She sings 'beneath ground', sounds very much a reference to Neverwhere, though it could refere to other things. And she sings "give me more', like the Velvet wanting more of Richards warmth. Perhaps she just couldn't contact Neil at a time when she wanted to, or couldn't get to a particular part of him.
