Hello and Tori love to all, I wrote a few days ago about making bread for Tori before her show in Lowell MA, and along with it I gave her a note which said things that I'd been waiting to tell her for many years. In that note I requested Winter for Durham on Thursday, and sure enough, she played the most beautiful version of Winter in Durham, and I sobbed and sobbed (some of you might have seen me freaking out). To get to the point.. my friend was supposedly taping the show, but it turns out that a security person took his tape away during the show. This was one of the most emotional/important moments in my life, and I would do ANYTHING for a tape of that show^Å. So if anybody has a tape of the Durham show on Nov. 19, I would be eternally grateful. I am willing to trade, and although I don't have too many trading items I have a few, so if anyone can help me or will trade or ANYTHING, please reply privately! Thank you all, Torilove.. Yea, here they heard continually the singing of birds and saw every day the flowers appear in the earth and heard the voice of the turtle in the land. In this country the sun shineth night and day; wherefore this was beyond the Valley of the Shadow of Death and also out of the reach of Giant Despair; neither could they from this place so much as see Doubting Castle. Here they were within sight of the City they were going to, also here met some of the inhabitants thereof. For in this land the Shining Ones commonly walked, because it was upon the borders of Heaven." forgive my ignorance if everyone already knows this... *grin* i thought it was interesting. on a side note, don't you think tori would cover a lot of jeff buckley's songs SO well? i think it'd be lovely... it'd be really neat to hear her play one of his songs.. I can't remember if anything was posted about this, other than: 1. It references Trent Reznor on the "you were wild, where are you now" lines, and 2. The last lines about "Exit 75, I'm still alive" references her rape and Binghamton (never got the connection between the two-- that conversation escapes me now) Anyway, I had a question about the "Lollipop Gestapo". See below for my questions, comments on lyrics. >Met 'em in a hotel >Met 'em in a hotel >Beneath ground Okay. I suppose this is talking about how she met Trent originally OR how she ran into him or arranged to meet him once, in a hotel. >tell him he's missing >tell me this is one for >Lollipop Gestapo So do you think that she's referencing US, her internet EWFs? This is why I think she is: we overanalyze EVERYTHING, and we seem to know EVERYTHING about her and who she knows and how she knows them, etc. And since most people are pretty young on the internet (save Richard and MikeWhy, hehe), perhaps she's referring to our age when she calls us the "Lollipop" gestapo. Like if Trent stopped recording, the fans on the internet would start talking about it and looking for him and reporting his whereabouts and goings-on. Anyone else agree or disagree on this? >give me more >I have to learn to let you crash down This could mean so many different things. And since she sounds like she's doing a different voice for each line, it sounds like some kind of banter to me. Is it the EWFs who are saying "give me more". And Tori tells herself under her breath that she needs to let herself "crash" after tours, etc.? >where are the velvets as you're coming down I'm taking this to mean -- I'm picturing him, Trent, walking down a grand staircase in an old hotel and he's not wearing his usual "rock star" velvets. Like he's a normal guy. Well, those are the only lyrics in the song I ever wonder about. Anyone else have any thoughts on this? Can't wait to hear! Babe in Toriland, jen ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 20 Nov 1998 14:25:48 +0000 From: Ken Tough Subject: Re: molasses The Shermans wrote: >Wait, wait, wait. I'm very confused now. The song is about >the loss of her northern lad, about a man that she couldn't be with, a man >she had to let go... Well, I don't think we'll ever know what any of her songs are about. Tori frequently tells different stories, changes her stories, and [at least it seems to me] makes old stories that fit with what she's interested in right now. About the Northern Lad, she mentioned a couple of times about a "boy from the North [of England]" that she was currently dating, at the start of DDI Tour (March-May 1996, see the archives at The Dent). This was much pre-Northern Lad, and whether or not that was Mark is hard to say, but Mark was on the scene and an item at about that time, if the then rumours are anything to go by. It could be she was talking about someone else who we'll never know. Still, I don't see why it has to be about a physical person; why not a person she's pieced together of those she has known and loves. Then again it could also have been written about Mark, in a stage when it looked like it wasn't going to work, even though it did in the end. It could also be written in the sense of "how would I feel if it hadn't worked, or didn't work". Tori's songs are not autobiographical. They are pieces of feeling, and pieces of things she wants to package up and put into the "outside-of-me" box (maybe as a way of dealing with them inside), combined into people or entities that stand on their own. Especially with fTcGh that's the case, where each song tells the story of a different woman. So it isn't about Mark, but about someone like him, and his relationship with someone like her, and I can see that singing it about him certainly puts a lot of sadness and feeling into it. I'm sure she does the same when she sings Famous Blue Raincoat, or A Case of You, which aren't about any of her men, but surely are when she sings them. - -- Ken Tough Cornwall, U.K. Edge of the planet, then get out and walk. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 21 Nov 1998 17:12:58 From: the Subject: durham show... the durham show was sooo good. if anyone has taped it...plleeeaaaazzzzz... e-mail me as soon as you can... also, are "angie", "flying dutchman" and "london girls" on any of the singles? and if so, which ones and are how hard are they to find? and...if anyone could get me one of the film strip t-shirts for this part of the tour or a blue one from the other part of the tour...size m...i would love to hear from you...and will gladly pay for shipping and everything... happy thoughts and things, ____________________________________________________________________ Get free e-mail and a permanent address at http://www.netaddress.com/?N=1 ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 21 Nov 1998 07:30:56 PST From: "climbing forever" Subject: film strip shirt hello...this is for the person who emailed me about buying my Plugged 98 film strip shirt, but who I told that it was already sold...however, the deal fell through, so if you are still interested in it please email me (I feel terrible but I cannot remember your name and I seem to have misplaced your email address) thanks, and sorry for the public e-mail about this oo...2 days ago I recieved the Past the Mission singles in the mail...oo they're so good, I can't stop listening to them...Flying Dutchman and Here.
