After she finished, she > told us, "I'm really not supposed to talk about him, see we made > a deal; I married him." aha! well, sort of. okay, i was always skeptical of "northern lad" being for mark, but i guess i can make some sense of it now. two lines always threw me in this song, but here are some possible rationalizations. "had a northern lad, well, not exactly 'had'" i always assumed she was talking totally in the past tense. had. what she really means is that had is incorrect since she actually *has* the nothern lad. "girls you've got to know when it's time to turn the page when you're only wet because of the rain" i took this to mean that the northern lad wasn't good enough for her molasses, but i guess she must be talking about the other chaps who came before the northern lad. i still not sure how this hangs together given these lines: "But I feel something is wrong But I feel this cake just isn't done" (obviously a "baker, baker" reference.) "I loved his secret places but I can't go anymore" and "I guess you go too far when pianos try to be guitars" this has to be a reference to her cover of "if 6 were 9", but was mark wasn't in the picture yet, was he? i guess the all of the song except the first few lines could be about everybody before mark. it would be in character for her to mix things up like that. but it still seems tenuous at best. i assume this was discussed ad naseum way back when choirgirl was released, but a) i'm a slow lyrics listener and b) i wasn't paying attention to the lyrics discussions back then. ;) woj ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Nov 1998 10:49:39 -0500 From: Nadyne Mielke Subject: Re: lost songs At 05:57 PM 11/16/1998 PST, shyrrl * wrote: >Okay, I remember hearing her mention a song "Snow Cherries in France" >and how it was left off of Choirgirl, along with another song. Words cannot begin to express what this night was for me, and I just want to say that I love her very much. Last night in Amherst she was basking in a well-laid afterglow all show long (truly--it was crazy to watch her smiling that much), and tonight she was, once again, in one hell of a fabulous mood, and the audience was most receptive to all the wonderful songs and energy she was dispensing. She's on a serious roll. Last tour toward the end seemed to some of us like the Long March, with her carrying on despite the weight of untold burdens, both physical and emotional. This tour, she's clearly enjoying herself more all the time, and it's a beautiful thing to behold. After the show some friends and I went to a pizza place/bar down the street, and as the bartender was off and being replaced by two waitresses who didn't even know what I meant when I asked for chilled Rumpleminze , and as I was served approximately eight fluid ounces of the stuff, I'll have to take a raincheck on writing at length about this show. (One of our waitresses cum bartenders looked like Alicia Silverstone. Way swell.) For now, let me say that the shows these days are fabulous, and I wouldn't trade being able to attend a single one of them for anything I can think of in the world. If there's any way you can get to at least one show, I cannot strongly enough express that you must do it, under penalty of missing something remarkably special. I better go now, and get to the hotel. Did I mention that in Binghamton we stayed in The Historic Hotel DeVille? I couldn't resist reserving a room there, as Tori complained last tour in Binghamton that it was the worst hotel they'd stayed in. The shag carpeting was fantastic. ;-) Be seeing you, Richard Handal, H.G. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Nov 1998 14:04:22 -0800 (PST) From: Cooling MyHeels Subject: to band or not to band Since the Plugged '98 tour is coming to a close, I thought I would ask people's opinions about Tori and the piano and Tori and the piano and the band. If it was MY world, I'd have certain songs with the band (ie, Cornflake Girl, She's your Cocaine, Precious Things) and most not (ie, Here, In My Head, Icicle, Horses). On the whole, I really liked the smaller venues (midsize) with no band (or just Caton) best. The whole arena experience hasn't been that postive for me. Do I have a bogus copy or did someone else just f**k up in promoting it? (which seems to be per normal when promoting anything Tori does) If anyone has an answer to my query it would be much appreciated, ie is there a video for PW, and SHOULD IT BE ON MY COMPILATION???? I loved the intimacy that we had when she played by herself or just with Caton. It was a beautiful and special experience. But I love her shows now because they are much more energetic. I feel like I'm partying with Tori! And I love it. I think she got a little bored with being the only one out there the whole time. Obviously she did enjoy her special closeness with us. I think she shows that to us now by throwing in some special private time with us at the shows now. I for one have noticed that she has seemed a lot happier on this tour than the last one, when she seemed sorta melancholy sometimes. I'm glad to see her so wonderfully happy, and I will love her shows whatever way she chooses to do them in the future. :] Mairie http://fly.to/pianoqueen ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Nov 1998 21:57:46 -0500 From: Beth Coulter Subject: Re: calenders At 03:46 PM 11/17/98 EST, Rl0tGrRL@aol.com wrote: > > Does anyone know where I could get a Tori Amos Calender that is reasonable >priced and has good pics in it? I just recieved a Tori Calender from IGG (please, no flames about how they are crooks, I've always been treated great!). It has *Fantabulous* pics, including the UTP cornflake girl shot. There's a couple I haven't seen, some as beautiful as Tori can ever appear, and one of her in jeans and a bikini top that I wouldn't ever want to show her to save her from embarressment. (gawd, I can hear the boys [and some girls] drooling on their keyboards). It was really reasonable and shipping was fairly quick. http://www.igg.com Fairy Blessings, Bethey I'm OK when everything's not OK cause it's the Fairies Revenge they say and I have always been a Fairy *************************************************************** *~**Fairy Blessings**~* ~~ tori trades and really deep thoughts~ a proud member of the Tori Traders Ring updated at least monthly http://www.angelfire.com/pa/bethey/ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Nov 1998 20:14:31 -0500 From: Erin Martin Subject: Plugged tape tree Hi! I was coming back from NY today and I got what I think is a pretty good idea. I think we should do a tape tree of the 98 shows. Personally, I'm dry in that area, but I'd love to orchestrate something. Those of you with 98 shows who are willing to either serve as "seeds" (who copy stuff for other people) or just to copy them for me or other seeds, PLEASE EMAIL ME. Tell me your name, where you live, and what shows you have. Please also tell me if you're willing to be a seed or not. I will need those people to help, but hey, you'll be getting the best copies of shows, right? :) DO NOT email me yet if you want to receive copies of tapes, please!!!! If you are sending show info, any details on format and quality would be helpful. Setlists are a bonus, but since they're posted on the Dent, I don't have to have them. Basically, hit reply and fill this stuff in!: Name: Locale: Shows I have: Location Date Format Quality Location Date Format Quality Location Date Format Quality etc. (format=DAT, analog (regular cassette), CD-R, minidisc, VHS, etc.) Setlists for shows: 1. 2. etc. Yes or No: I would like to serve as a seed to copy shows for other members. That's all there is. That didn't take so long, now did it? I really hope this can get off the ground because I know, especially for newbies, this would be really helpful and save a lot of money. Thank you all very much! Blue skies and fireflies, Erin ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V3 #400 *************************************
