OK, so this is me putting on my Sherlock Holmes trousers for a sec, as I am attempting to unveil a mystery that's been troubling me for a while. I know that although 'Beulah' and 'Never seen blue' were written during the BfP, they are said to have been recorded in 1998. However, wouldn't it be safe to say that the same Gospel choir on 'Way Down' (Dyke Mills band, I think they're called) did the vox on 'Beulah', which perhaps means that it was recorded back then in the 1995 BfP sessions? Or is this common knowledge already and I'm being a complete twat for not realising this earlier? Hi Guys, I just wondered if anyone had picked up on the 'random' highlighting of lyrics in the inlay of the new Alanis Morissette album, "Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie" as being directly influenced by "Little Earthquakes"? Maybe I'm dreaming, but it's not something that happens very often. The Black Dyke Mills band is a venerable brass and reeds band from England which was formed over a hundred years ago. They recorded the brass parts on some recordings made by The Beatles. I don't think I've ever seen any discussion of them before on the lists, so I'm going to include below a brief blurb about them. (Raging typos left intact.) Be seeing you, Richard Handal, H.G. ___________________________________________________________________ The Black Dyke Band http://www.bobchilds.co.uk/dyke.htm Robert Childs is currently Principal Euphonium and Assistant Conductor of The Black Dyke Band (1855) The Black Dyke Band (1855) A brass and reed band was first formed in the village of Queenshead - later to become Queensbury - in 1815. In 1837 the band was reformed and the owner of Black Dyke Mills, John Foster- a french horn player with the band - financed the purchase of a set a brass instruments; the band was then renamed the Black Dyke Mills Band. In April 1994 the band was delightd to obtain the sponsorsihp of one of Britains leading buiding societies - Bradford & Bingley. Bradford & Bingleys sponsoship brings together two excellent and well-known names and organisations, and enables the band to expand and develop long term plans and activities. One of which was successfully pursuing charitable status in February this year, necessitating another minor name change for the band. Black Dyke Band has gained international fame through its unparalleled number of contest successes. It has won the National Championsihp 18 times, the European Championship 9 times and, since first becoming British Open Champions in 1862, has won the title 26 times. The band has performed in many counrties throughout the world, including a sell-out tour of Japan. In 1993 it made an historic appearance as the first British Band to play in the Carnegie Hall, New York. In October 1994, Black Dyke Band was the first brass band to play at the Royal College of Music and then went on to win the National Brass Band Championship at the Royal Albert Hall. A very successful weekend culminated with the appearance of the band as guests of the LSO Brass Ensemble at the Barbican. In April 1995, the band was delighted to regain the European Championship; the same year it also won the British Open and National Championships. In recognition of its continued success the Band was awarded the Honorary Freedom of the City by the City of Bradford in 1976. Black Dyke Band has been conducted by many famous names, including the legendary Arthur Pearce and Harry Mortimer, and as its Principal Conductor is now James Watson, one of the worlds finest trumpet soloists. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 04 Nov 1998 21:43:09 -0600 From: anya Subject: revue does anyone know if/when revue will be re-shown? i completely forgot.. ana since we broke up i'm using lipstick again http://www.ecstasia.org http://red.ecstasia.org ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Nov 1998 23:08:28 EST From: RasinGirrl@aol.com Subject: REVUE It was fantastic but I have a few questions: How amazing was "god"?
