I'm sure Tori doesn't like to see so many people squished together, at risk of being injured. I'm sorry that you can't see her because things are so crazy. I'm sorry I can't see her, unless the unmentionable happens, because I won't fight and run to see her. When I meet Tori, I want it to be in a dignified manner. I'm sorry for anyone hurt by my broad generalizations before, but I figured I would blame namelessly and you sometimes offend the innocent doing so. Well, the way it typically works is this: people get in line according to number a little while before it's expected the barricades will be erected. Then, when the barricades *are* erected, they go up in *largely* the same order of their numbers and wait for Tori to arrive. Sometimes, such as in Nashville at the Grand Ole Opry in August, the barricades are put up quite early and folks simply go over to them when Steve Sanchez comes out to tell us to anticipate her arrival. If they're civilized, that is. As to where those people who pushed up through the crowd went, I can assure you that no multiple dozen people got up past where I was about six rows back. I know some people just left when they realized how impossibly far back they were, and that they had no chance of even glimpsing her hair from where they were. > we was standing out there for over 45 minutes before i saw anyone with a > number on their hand (it was 90-something) and it was only because the > girl walked by me, trying to get around the bus to the other side of the > street. Once you get up around 50 or so at the most, it's pretty irrelevant what number anyone has, anyhow. I heard in Baltimore they gave numbers out up to like 180, which sounded bizarre to me. > i *did* notice a LOT of people seemed to be getting their time with tori > and then leaving; giving others their time up front. That was, of course, contrary to Steve Sanchez's wishes, due to trying to avoid chaos with folks rushing up into place to fill the spaces left by the original people up there. > my two longest posts to PT within a matter of 24 hours. you guys must > be getting tired of me! :P Not at all, Jackie, you seem really nice. :-) It's lovely to have a give and take with someone. It is simply the most gorgeous song Tori has ever written. Everything about it is simply haunting and beautiful. And the lyrics are among her best. I get the most intense chills when I listen to it--every single damn time. I want it played at my funeral. =) About this Meet and Greet stuff....was anyone as disturbed as I was by the Aimee/Beth conversation? I was extremely unsettled by it, and I'm having trouble pinpointing why. It's not that both sides don't have very good and valid points, but it's the whole....attitude about it, surrounding it. This tour brought my first experience with the Meet and Greets, and I can say that I met people who had obviously been to several before, and they were very high strung and condescending and snappy in general, and I didn't quite understand why....but on the other hand, I also met the nicest, most fabulous people who seemed to really want to help the so-called "newer" fans out. I have been a Tori Amos since Little Earthquakes came out. I have bought every album, cherished every song. I attended my local concerts every tour except LE, because my parents felt I was too young to go to a concert (I was in junior high at the time). I "splurged" (lol) and went to two shows this tour. And I enjoyed myself immensely. Now, my question is this: Do you honestly think we need to earn our way to meet Tori? That certain people have more of a "right" to meet her than others? In order to be "good enough" to converse with Tori Amos, do I have to buy every little import, scour for every bootleg? Attend five shows at a minimum? Head up the local rape crisis group at my school? Be a member of every list? Run at least three web pages devoted to Tori? Make sure I am around to give snide commentary on everything the "younger" fans say or do? I have met every type of person on this list alone, and most of them have been extremely nice and friendly and the like. And sure, there have been the few who are snide and rude and condescending. But y'know what? That happens everywhere. It's just a human nature. I'd rather think about the Toriphiles in the community, like Mikewhy, Richard, and others. People who enjoy Tori for her philosophy and her MUSIC. That's what it all comes down to, folks, is the MUSIC. I think Tori would be apalled that we are even discussing this, y'know? I have no doubt that were are seeing the end of the Meet and Greets. I just really think they are becoming impractical for Tori, even though I'm sure she is sad about it. Plus, now that she's becoming more high profile in concerns to her relationship with her fans, and the fact that soon she is going to want to start her family....I mean What then? Earning the right to see Tori is an idea that is both ludicrous and ridiculous, and if you're going to volunteer in relation to RAINN, I really hope you are doing it because you're affected by its causes and what it represents. Not to get in good with Tori. That thought horrifies me. It's an insult to Tori, and to the millions of women who are raped every year. Just my piece. I'm going to really, really shut up now. This is just too disturbing to me.
