I also found out about Newark, NJ show (see below). I wasn't given any information on whether there will be ticket sales just for students. Persons interested in this event should check with the school for details. EVANSTON, IL Tickets went on sale to the general public on 9/27. They go on sale to students on 10/8. Why is the student on-sale date later than the general public? I've been told that they're holding back seats just for the students. I don't know what section or how many seats. Students should check with the school's theater or box office for more info. WEST LAFAYETTE, IN (Purdue University) Tori's management wasn't ready to comment on this date but Purdue's newspaper, "The Exponent", announced that tickets will go on sale to students on October 8. I don't yet know when they will go on sale to the general public. Students should read the web page at: http://www.purdueexponent.org/archives/Sept23_98/features/tori.html EAU CLAIRE, WI On sale to students 10/2. On sale to general public 10/5. Students should check with the school for details. ITHACA, NY Tickets go on sale 10/8 for members of the Ithaca College Community. Tickets go on sale on October 13th for the general public. The price of admission is $15 with an Ithaca College I.D. and $18 for the general public. Tickets may be bought at the Ithaca College Campus Center Lobby (Check Cashing Window), Rebop Records, Sounds Fine, and through Ticketmaster. This concert is being sponsored by the Ithaca College Bureau of Concerts. ROCHESTER, NY Tickets go on sale to the general public on Thursday, 10/8 at the Common Market, Univ. of Rochester and at the Mt. Hope Record Archive in Rochester. Students WITH ID may purchase tickets a day ahead (10/7), cash only. Tickets for non-students are $22. I don't know the price for students. This is reserved seating: first come, first served for tix. The University of Rochester Concerts is promoting this show. People may call (716) 275-5911 for more information. ANN ARBOR, MI The 11/21 concert in Ann Arbor, MI has been cancelled. It may be rescheduled for another date but for now its off the schedule. NEWARK, NJ A concert in Newark, DE was recently announced and so a number of fans thought this meant the previously rumoured Newark, NJ was a misprint. I asked Tori's management and it turns out there *IS* a concert being arranged for Newark, NJ on 11/25. PLEASE NOTE: this is still in the planning stages and the concert may not happen if arrangements don't work out. No word on when tickets will go on sale. I'll let you know as soon as there is any information. -Greg Burrell The Official Tori Amos Fanzine News Editor http://www.toriamos.org Really Deep Thoughts ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 01 Oct 1998 23:42:19 -0400 From: Beth Coulter Subject: Re: Tori E-Mail Cards... I feel really honored to have been able to be in the audience for that show (and they never pointed the cameras in my direction, so I can't point myself out to you all). There was one kind of funny/odd thing Tori said which they edited out, probably for time reasons or possibly for obscenity. When she was talking about getting in touch with her shadow side, she said something like "I have to accept that I'm Monica and I dont swallow!" The crowd laughed. But I'm assuming they couldn't have aired that. Another comment, that I'm glad they took out, was something Roseanne said about how it was a "woman thing" to date guys who are on the dark side because you want to access the shadow. I thought that was kind of a dumb thing to say, because men do it too. Singing MAAG seemed to be Tori's idea. They were set to wrap the show after Jackie's Strength, and Tori went down to the side of the stage and talked to a few people, and Roseanne. After about 5 minutes of messing around, situating the women around the piano and such, Tori started into MAAG. I couldn't believe what I was hearing! I've heard her sing it live once, during the DDI tour, but never so close-up and in such an intimate setting, and with such meaning. After the show, I think Tori brought the young woman ("Debbie") with her backstage, and I'm sure she was given tickets to that night's show at the Greek (the 23rd), if she didn't have them already. Tori had sung MAAG on her Greek show the night before, but that night she sang SATY, and I'm sure it was inspired by that girl's story. Tori was genuinely touched by all of them. Watching her face throughout the taping was amazing. And many folks in the audience were crying. I'm really glad everyone else has finally gotten to see it. Really one of her best appearances on TV. The story behind "Have Youself a Merry Little Christmas" makes it pretty bittersweet; without knowing it, I can imagine it on a christmas album. Now, not. [Tori's miscarriage was a few days before christmas, 1996.] Still, you could also have: "Little Drummer Boy" (available as a promo, bootleg, or on the two-CD Australian Under The Pink (and more pink) release, or (I think) on the "You Sleigh Me" christmas music CD. If you >have any thoughts for covers/b-sides, where Tori has actually said they were >her favorite, or any themes for a patch let me know. 9? Are you sure? 4 for albums + 8 b-sides = 12, no? 1. A Case of You - what else--a lilac map of Canada, of course Her quote from the CfG UK Ltd CD is: "When I think of Joni I always think of 'A Case of You' wrapped up in a blanket in my room that I asked the church to paint lilac, I would play this song till the candle wouldn't drip anymore." 2. Frog on My Toe - a girl and man sitting under a tree it reminds her of her grandfather (Poppa or poppy), and the way he taught her to love the force of life in things. She talks a lot about him, and "living your talk" (or actually treating people well) in interviews these days 3. Honey, of course - a bee This is undoubtably Tori's favourite B (bee?). It ought to be central to the quilt, I reckon. Fave quote: 'this one should have made it on [Under The Pink] but it didn't, well, because I'm such a ding-a-ling' 4. Butterfly/black swan - a butterfly actually, I don't know if it's a fave of hers, but it goes well with the bee. 5. Daisy Dead Petals - a daisy goes well with the butterfly and bee :) 6. Famous Blue Raincoat - an easy one--sew on a lock of your hair In an interview on RTE's 2-TV programme in Ireland in 1996, Tori said she tried to imagine herself as Jane. A quote from a Sun interview in July 1994 is interesting because of what they talked about just before FBR: Sun: The big thing that I've been hearing from the Tori circles is that after this tour, you're planning to venture into motherhood for a while. TA: Yes. I'm planning that, actually. It's the thing I want to do most. I'm a bit in a weird space right now, because my body's so tired that I can't really think of -- I mean, emotionally I want to do that, but physically, I have 90 shows left, so-- Sun: That seems fair preparation for being a mother. TA: Yeah. I'm very excited. I'm working on -- it's like, I'm targeting the next record for the fall of '96, and between then, I have a couple things on the back burner. I've done something on the Leonard Cohen tribute that I'm very excited about, because, what an influence his writing has been to so many. I did `Blue Raincoat,' just a piano/vocal, which I'm kind of happy about. Everybody else was, you know, doing a big production thing, and I figured, no. 7. Sugar - two teacups with interlocking handles; one cup broken 8. Mary - a green + blue yin/yang Tori's especially interested in the myth of the Marys these days and the way two marys were created in christianity to reflect opposing sides of femininity, and yet they merge in the one-ness of purity and impurity that is inherent in people. Mary in this song is also a reflection of the mother and the earth mother, and how people have lost respect in that. I think a blue-green yin/yang reflects that unity of opposing parts and the lyrics of "Mary" pretty well. GOOD LUCK Jen!
