The disc includes the unreleased tracks "Never Seen Blue," and "Beulah Land," as well as the video for the title track and a companion video for the "Songs From the Choirgirl Hotel" song "Raspberry Swirl." The video for "Jackie's Strength" premiered on MTV last week -- Directed by James Brown (Finley Quaye, Apollo 440), it incorporates documentary footage of Jacqueline Kennedy, who was the lyrical inspiration of the song. Amos plays the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee tomorrow, and remains on tour in the U.S. through early October. http://www.tori.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 25 Aug 1998 09:49:53 -0400 From: Mikewhy Subject: The temporary Dent is up! Hello Toriphiles and those concerned about The Dent... My service provider, aye.net, has a SERIOUS security problem that has forced them to change operating systems and suspend ALL the web sites on the aye.net server, including The Dent. This is why the site has been down since August 17. The soonest The Dent is likely to be back is Friday, August 28 or possibly even later than that, according to aye.net. I sincerely apologize for all this and I assure you that if there was anything I could do about this, I would. Until my site returns, Violet (who runs the RDTRN mailing list) has kindly allowed me to use her server space to set up a temporary home for the Dent. To get to the temporary Dent, go to: http://www.torithoughts.org/dent/tourlist98.html THIS IS ONLY A TEMPORARY LOCATION. WHEN THE DENT RETURNS, YOUR OLD URLS FOR THE SITE WILL STILL WORK. For now all I have is the tour schedule page with all the reviews and set lists. Later I hope to add news and TV info to keep you informed until my real site is back up. So I ask you to be patient and read all the reviews and set lists I have added for the latest shows, including my great shows in Birmingham, Knoxville, and Atlanta, as well as the Birthday show in Sunrise and the incredible show that just completed in Tampa. My real site will be back soon...I promise! Thanks for your patience during this very trying time for me! Yes, I just introduced another page into the crowded Tori Amos net. But mine's a little different. See, mine is a site where you can send me your interps of Tori's lovely b-sides. I know some of you don't like song interpetations, but some of us do. What's the use of reading a poem if you can't extract all of it's beauty and use it later in life? Well, I don't wanna start another argument on that... please, if you want to, check out my little page at http://members.tripod.com/~ToriAmosBsides . Mikewhy, I know you read this list, if you would, would you please be a sweetheart and mention it on your incredible page? Thank you, even if the answer is no. Bye darlings! Love, Melissa ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 25 Aug 1998 10:36:02 -0700 From: SALFI@ALPHA.USFCA.EDU Subject: a few loose ends Hello, fellow Torifreaks. I've been laying low since subscribing to this list, since I've been sensing a lot of hostility and intolerance. Now it's time for my two cents. 1) With respect to the origin of "Dew Drop Inn," I thought you should know that there's a "Do Drop Inn" somewhere near Louisville. 2) The lyrics to "There Is a Balm in Gilead" go something like this. (I sang this in chorus about 10 years ago.) Chorus: There is a balm in Gilead to make the wounded whole There is a balm in Gilead to heal the sin-sick soul Verse One: Sometimes I feel discouraged and think my works in vain But then the Holy Spirit revives my soul again Verse Two: If you cannot sing like angels, if you cannot preach like Paul You can tell the love of Jesus, and say he died for all Please do not interpret this knowledge as a sign of belief. I'm proudly ex-Catholic and do not subscribe to any organized religion. 3) A question: Is "Bachelorette" (listed on the Spark CD single) a cover of Bjork's incredible song? (I don't have the money to run out and buy it for the hell of it. Comments on the other tracks would be appreciated as well.) 4) A while back, someone asked why Tori Amos is so popular among lesbian/ gay communities. Another individual answered wisely that we queers are allowed to appreciate amazing artistry in music/lyrics. I'd also like to add that I feel an affinity towards Tori based on my experiences as a gay man. A friend of mine turned me on to "LE" way back when it first came out, and I immediately grabbed hold of "Precious Things"--all of its hurt and anger,as well as its call for a way to let the past "wash away" and "break its hold - --oops, "break their hold over me." Gay men who are aware of their sexuality at a young age, I think, go through what girls go through--the same boys/men who awaken desire are the ones who try to squash it or distort it for their own needs. (I'm thinking of my favorite line: "I wanna smash the faces of those beautiful boys, those Christian boys...") No disrespect intended toward the straight boys out there--I know that you go through your own bullshit in adolescence. Tori has been singing an intro to "Talula" that's not on the album or the single. I recognize as the backing lyrics to the song, but I can't make out what she's saying. She may have used different intros to "Talula" since then, so just in case, I'm talking about the Atlanta show on Aug. 17. Thanks for any input. How do i get it to her. Here's the story. well I was shopping on the net and I saw the most beautiful thing and I was like OH my god that is tori amos and I have to get it. It is an antique from 1915 and so I thought this is something that no one would have already given her and I know that when she sees it she will love it. and it was only like 5 dollars so I snatched it up and when I got it in the mail it was bigger than I thought from the picture. It is a print and it is like 2 feet long and a foot and a half wide I think it is bigger than that but now I dont know how to give it to her because you can just hand her something small and stuff but something that is bigger??? I dont know what to do with it and if I dont get the chance to give it to her I will have to carry it into the concert with me and stuff so I was wondering if anyone had a idea for a course of action to make sure she gets it somehow because I truely believe she would treasure it. I just had this feeling when I saw it and then when it came in the mail I was so sure about it. ok that is all thank you kat ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V3 #302 *************************************
