After this summer I will have attended NINE tori shows in the last 5 years... It always happens however that I see like two or three shows all in one week, which is good, but it would be nice if they were more spaced out.. I bought tickets this weekend for Charlotte and RIchmond. I'm from Richmond and it's always nice to go to a show in your hometown. I'm VERY EXCITED. I was a bit skeptical about this tour, because I've been so spoiled in sitting pretty close to Tori in the last few tours... When I bought my tickets for DC on August 8, i got floor, but way back... after all, MCI Center is HUGE.. BUT!! Today and yesterday I lucked out my friends!! Got fourth row for Charlotte, and for Richmond.... ... FRONT ROW!! dead center. I thought about camping out at the boxoffice, but instead decided on going to an outlet, i.e. music store, department store, etc... I was the first in line at Peaches.... WOW, I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!! We will be taking bids during the Con {7-9 August 1998} in "silent auction mode." Information/scans, etc of donated items will be available on the web prior to the auction. Once again, it is our intention to have this open to nonattendees as well as con attendees via e-mail and periodic updates from the con (portable computers are wonderful things). It is our intention to have this open to nonattendees as well as con attendees via e-mail and periodic updates from the con (portable computers are wonderful things) I am now asking for donations. I know that we have people with the extra Tori item tucked away. Some items that have been donated include: * the Atlantic Christmas compilation "You Sleigh Me" * "RAINN Retrospective" promo, which is the only place you can find the twilight mix of Putting the Damage On * "Live X 3: RAINN Songs", a compilation CD put out by Atlanta radio station 99X, which has live tracks by several artists unavailable elsewhere. Items don't have to be Toristuff, nor do they have to even be music-related. I know we have some incredibly talented artists and craftpersons among us -- all donations are welcome (and since it is for RAINN, should be tax deductible). - -* Begin auction rules -*- I Introduction In conjunction with ToriCon 98, we are holding a Silent Auction to benefit RAINN, the Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network. This is a charity which Tori helped found and supports. For more information on RAINN, visit their web site http://www.rainn.org All proceeds from the auction will be donated to RAINN. II Donations We will accept donations of Tori related material as well as other items. The items do -not- have to be Tori related. Other artists which are popular with fans of Tori are a good choice (such as Ani, Paula Cole, Sarah, etc.) Also we have some incredibly talented artists and craftspeople here and your donations of your created materials are also welcome. To be brief, _anything_ for which we can obtain a bid during the auction is welcome and encouraged. Please e-mail Jess (Jessw@cris.com) with a description of your items. You will receive instructions by return e-mail. Ideally, we would like to have the items in hand before August 1. This will make publicizing and posting the auction list possible. Of course, last minute donations will be accepted, but since they will have less time for exposure prior to the auction the bidding for them might be lower. To assure that all items are available, we do request that you send them ahead of the Con. We are not setting minimum bids, but there may be cases where the donor will set a reserve price. If bidding does not equal or exceed the reserve price, the donor may, at their option, choose not to have the item sold. This is not a process we encourage. III Bidding We will begin bidding on Friday August 7, 1998 at 3:00PM Eastern Daylight Savings time and close bidding at 2:00 PM EDT Sunday August 9, 1998. To be valid, a bid must include your full legal name, age, street address, telephone number, item being bid upon, and amount being bid. Bidding may be either in-person at the Con or via e-mail. All winning bids will be confirmed, either by phone, in person, or via e-mail between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM on August 9. If you will not be available during that period of time, and the item is flagged as needing personal confirmation (rare or very expensive items only) prior arrangements should be made for confirmation. If full payment is not received within 10 days of the close of the auction, items may be sold to other bidders. Making a bid will constitute an irrevocable offer to purchase which only expires upon receipt of a valid higher bid or sale of the item. By making a bid, you are agreeing to the terms and conditions in the latest revision of there Rules. Prior to the start of bidding, we will post the e-mail address to send bids on RMT-A. We will post periodic updates on RMT-A and will also try to have this information available on a web page. We are not responsible for propagation delays or delay in transmission of e-mail. There will be a telephone number posted if you are making a last minute bid and want to be sure it is considered. IV Payment Payment will be by cash, money order, or good one way check in US funds prior to the delivery of any items. (For checks, allow 2 weeks for clearance) Winning bidders will be given complete payment information. A $4 postage fee will be added to each winning bid even though some items will cost more for shipping. Any net shipping fees left over after shipping costs will be donated to RAINN. If shipping charges are more than the net shipping fees collected, additional costs are being donated anonymously. The shipping fee applies per person, not per item, so that if three items are purchased, the fee would still only be $4. Items will be shipped insured by US Mail. If you want faster delivery or other methods of shipment, you must pay any additional costs. International shipping is also at additional cost. It is unfortunate that we have to mention this, but we will take appropriate legal action in the event of dishonored checks. (Trust me on this, I will personally spend whatever it takes to prosecute someone who would rip off RAINN.) V Tax Deductibility Items donated will be used to benefit a recognized charity. If requested, we will provide donation letters. Bids which exceed the recognized value of an item may also be partially tax deductible. You may wish to consult your tax advisor if you have questions on the deductibility of donations or overbids. - -*- End auction rules -*- If anyone has any questions, feel free to drop either myself (nadyne@rmta.org) or Jess (jessw@cris.com) a line. I'm really hoping that we'll be able to beat last year's auction. So far, we've got some great items that will be available for auction, but the more the merrier. And it's for a good cause, plus it's tax-deductible. Better than spending your money at eBay! :) /nad [1] ToriCon 98 is rec.music.tori-amos's annual gathering. We get together for a weekend in a nice hotel, finally get to meet the other people who produce all that text, and generally have a blast. This year's ToriCon is in Atlanta on 7-9 August 1998, with myself as hostess. All proceeds from ToriCon are donated to RAINN. Last year, between the auction and matching donations and other stuff, the final cheque we sent to RAINN was for $2000. Hey, every bit helps. :) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 28 Jun 1998 12:51:27 -0500 (CDT) From: Michael Curry Subject: ADMIN: In case you hadn't noticed... ...this list is moderated. It came to my attention this weekend that the info file that new subscribers get was never updated to include this information. Whoops. While that is in the process of being rectified, here a repeat of the original announcement for those of you who have joined precious-things since it first appeared. - ----- As stated in the welcome message sent out to all subscribers when they joined this list, the purpose of precious-things is to provide a forum for Tori Amos discussion which has a higher signal and lower volume than the other mailing lists and newsgroups. Lately, however, precious-things has come to resemble a chat room, with a high volume of relatively short and fairly meaningless posts. In order to return precious-things to some semblence of what its original vision was, we have decided to make it into a moderated mailing list. This means that *every* message sent to the list will need to be approved by one of the list owners before it is delivered to the rest of the subscribers. Given the existence of the really-deep-thoughts-right-now mailing list and the rec.music.tori-amos newsgroup, we do not feel that moderating will detract from the Tori Amos community on the net and may even enhance it by providing a lower volume alternative for those who would otherwise not be able to participate in the unmoderated fora. So what sort of messages are likely to be approved and which are not? To start with, any message that simply relates factual information about Tori (tour dates, television appearances, etc) will almost always be approved. The only exceptions will be when more than one person sends the same information to the list at about the same time, in which case only one of the messages will be sent on to the subscribers. The other messages that are likely to meet with approval are a bit harder to clearly define. The basic rule is that we are looking for discussion rather than chatter, and that discussion must focus on Tori rather than just mentioning her in passing. What constitutes discussion and what is just idle chatter is of course a matter of opinion, but one basic rule of thumb is that unless you are asking or answering a question that involves simple facts (such as "What singles is Honey available on?") you shouldn't be writing one or two line messages. If you have an opinion take the time to explain why you have that opinion. As for the things that will almost certainly not get approved, here's a slightly expanded list of what is unacceptable: * Ad hominen attacks or flamewars. * Posts that do not directly pertain to either Tori or her work, i.e., no debates about feminism, religion, rape, etc. please. We are not saying that these topics should never be mentioned or discussed, since they obviously do relate to Tori and her music, only that such discussion should be limited to how these topics relate to Tori rather than general discussions of the issues. * Offers or requests for trades, concert recordings, or bootlegs (please use rdt, r.m.t-a or the tori-boot mailing list for this). * Any message which is in a format other than plain text, such as HTML or MIME. * "Me too" posts * Replies which are of interest only to the person being replied to (and therefore should be sent via private email). Please note that if your message is not approved you will not be sent a rejection notice of any sort, you will simply not see your message appear on the list. Also note that running this list is not a full-time job for either woj or I so there will usually be some delay between the time you send a message and the time it appears on the list. How long this delay is will vary depending on the time of day you send your message, but most of the time it should be less than 24 hours (not counting any delays caused by the many things that are beyond our control). As many of you know, I am a very new Tori fan but I'd just like to say this about Tori: she is a SPECTACULAR music artist, and I am AMAZED by her many talents. Her voice is pure, her demeanor sincere, and all-in-all she is so....so....I dunno how to say it....historical! I think that's the word! Anyway, what I'm trying to say is, is that years from now when Tori disappears from the music industry, someone will say "Hey, does anyone remember Tori Amos?" and EVERYONE and I'm talking EVERYONE will stand up and yell "YES!!!!!" See what I'm trying to say? NOBODY can forget the amazing impact Tori has made on the music industry and on many peoples' lives. Tori will never be forgotten. It's kinda like the Beatles. Who can forget them? Likewise, who can forget Tori Amos?? THANK YOU to everyone who gave me their opinions about BfP and LE, and about her many singles.
