Just because Tori is on the cover of RS doesn't neccesarily thrust her into the "mainstream". Being on the cover of RS doesn't automatically make one mainstream. Sure, Tori'sfan base is growing, but to a great number of people, she's still "unaccessible", unlike Dave Matthews Band, Jewel, and other blah blah blah's who've graced the cover of RS and seem to be seen and heard and liked by everyone & their mother; ie mainstream. I think she deserves the cover after so many years & four awe-inspiring works which IMHO have had greater influence over fans than the aforementioned pop stars and others of their stature. I think its good thats she's in more magazines like RS and loosing her undeserved "kooky new age girl" aura that she originally got tagged with in the first place early on! We haven't lost Tori, we just have more of her! Besides, how you can you NOT like such a GORGEOUS cover????? Hi everyone, I'm a 23-year-old guy from Montreal. I just joined the list, so I thought I would send a message to introduce myself. I've been enjoying Tori's music for about 5 years now. To me, she's one of the most interesting and fascinating songwriters of the entire rock era. I've never had the chance to see her live in concert, but I'll be going to her Montreal concert in July. Anyone else going ? My other favorite bands include : Lemonheads, Kate Bush, David Bowie, Juliana Hatfield, Madness, Aimee Mann, Squeeze and XTC. Any other fans from Montreal ? Take care ! It is so intricate that you have to submerge yourself in it. At first I thought it was kinda cool, but didnt know what some of the songs meant and skipped them. But now I have to say it is by far the best album she has ever put out. There are so many layers, musically and lyrically. The album is a novel with reoccuring characters, far deeper than any album she has put out (Although I am still working on soaking in Choirgirl). This is her masterpiece (Not to say that her other albums suck or anything, they just fade in comparison to Pele). Sorry I had to chime in on this one. I knew of them way before"Push" came out. I was on mailing lists like this. But now, I have been noticing these little "Push " people if you will, taking over the mailing lists, saying hwo cute they are, etc. Concerts aren't fun anymore cos you have these tiny little girls screaming. Nothing against them, but it just paints a different atmosphere. I really love this song, and I think it is incredibly powerful. I haven't sat down and analyzed the lyrics too much in detail, but I think it's about Tori trying to deal with the loss of her child just days before Christmas. The song makes me picture Tori drifting in a kind of vacuum in space as she sits by a Christmas tree with a pile of presents that were meant to be for her daughter. I hear her singing about how much love there was for her child to receive, and how this child would have been loved like those less fortunate wish they could be. The spacey noises in the background seem to emphasize how lost she feels, and how cold and empty things feel. I'm not saying that this is the only interpretation of the song, it's just how I see it. It was the beginning to Caught a Lite Sneeze. It still blows me away. Well I've been listening to her music really close to hear the harsichord in other albums and I believe I can cite two other times she used it other than Boys For Pele. First, in the credits for Siren in the Great Expectations booklet, it mentions the harpsichord and for a while, I couldn't hear it, but I found it. It's near the end in the background. Kind of faint. It's going on for sure when she is repeating the "Never was one for a prissy girl" lines at the end. Also, believe it or not, I think it's in Crucify. If you listen to the last line of Crucify, you can definately hear it, although I think it's playing for quite some time. It is playing the melody to the chayeeayeeains part. It is the last sound that you hear on Crucify. I'm convinced. That would be weird if the first song on her first solo album had it. Let me know if anyone agrees or has any other comments to throw out. I miss the harpsichord. Has anyone, the long time Tori fans, noticed that when you are waiting in line to get Tori tickets that you are surrounded by little teenaged people who look like they DO listen to the Spice Girls and every other mainstream artist out there. How can anyone that young understand what it is like to have an addiction or to lose a child or to even know what it means to be tied to someone even after they are gone?
