The piano work is sophisticated and >intriguing...the lyrics are fantastical and yet >gripping. I consider BFP to be a *masterwork*. >As others have said, it's a mature, _adult_ >collection of music. Well, first I will respond to this, I do think that BfP appeals to a mature audience, but it's still my favourite, me not being too old (14 tomorrow) and it's just my favourite, I think it's because I like the complex music and there's is just so muc going on and so many different emotion portrayed. Now I am going to rank the albums. 1.BfP because what I said up there and there are 18 songs, 18!!! 2.LE because it's her firts album and it's very um, coming out kind of album, where she finally truly displays all her true emotions...the piano is quite classic as was said. 3.UtP it's songs are really cool, I really especially like Yes, Anastasia with all the different sections and Cloud on my Tongue, and Wrong Band, and baker Baker, and I'm going to end up listing all the ones, so I'll just stop. The piano on this album is complex with many different key signatures that are really scary looking... 4.FtCGH I do really like this album, so don't get me wrong, but I was expecting more, I was hoping that it would have more than 12 songs, kind of like 15, I expected 15, for some reason it seemed like a 15 song album, or like a 8 song album with like all 10 minute songs...don't ask why...I don't know, I seem to like the longer songs more than the shorter ones for some reason. Okay, well bye. I agree. "Northern Land" it's just a nice kind of ballad stuff. but it's far away from what anyone could expect from Tori. "Jackie's Strengh", i kinda like it, anyway. >"spark", the perfect first single, entwines her musical >past and present and manages to press musical buttons i didn't even >know i had, "cruel" elegantly mixes bits or trip-hop with pop, >"black-dove" is as cathartic as "little earthquakes" (the song), not >the album), "i i e e e" is a weird little ditty, "liquid diamonds" is >languishly lovely (it is probably my favorite track off the record), >"hotel" is messy enough to keep me wondering, the slide guitar in >"playboy mommy" is just perfect, and "pandora's aquarium", despite the >awful vocal pitch-shifting in the intro, seems to be the one song which >initialy struck me lyrically. I couldn't say that better! I loved "Liquid Diamonds", itīs a fantastic song, and it shows very good her interaction with the rest of the band (in the Studio) as well as "Spark". In both, itīs remarcable the work of Matt Chamberlain beating up the drums. That kid can surely play! The post about the candy store girl really caught me. I'm reading alot of Joseph Campbell/general mythology as of late, and I'm thinking...(now that's scary) Tori has created a mythology for us to believe in. In this world where mythology is quickly eroding into inorganic nonsense, tori has re-entered our brains with power-packed intuitiveness and organic wisdom. So, when someone tells us that tori has been insincere, this not only attacks out thoughts on a simple celebrity level, it rips our entire system of mythology apart. I choose to believe that the world is not turning into a giant jar of Cornflake people, and Tori reaffirms my belief in honesty and everthing that is. Not that she's all good, because she's got the duality we all need. She's a little bit salt and a little bit pepper. Fareies are a mythology all their own, and tori has been quoted to say that we would all benefit from a study of various mythologies.(sorry, richard, i forgot the source...maybe you could help) She believes in the idea of belief in something, of the idea of a universal search for some sort of truth, and the presence of such truth in the reflections of ourselves. it's just that the religious right is a bunch of narrow-minded people out for the blood of all other religions. and that's got nothing to do with what they're supposed to be paying attention to. that's not what christianity was supposed to be about. If any of this makes sense to any of you, I'm glad. I'm confusing myself a little, but I think I've got the basic idea. The relationship we have with tori is a mutual one, and it shudders the elements of ancient rituals in our little bodies. It's like we're giving a bit of ourselves up for our little faery, and she's sending it right back at us, with some little party favors on top. it's very old and anchored in our primal natures...we have lost that in the modern gadget world, and those who still have the available consciousness to be able to understand this loss search for its remains in the small tupperware of leftovers...and tori's right there on top, baby...she's giving us our heimlich and we're loving her for it. in closing: i hope you do not find this to sound obsessive. I'm just simply trying to analize the feeling we all get when we turn on that little knob and let the music flow. that's the only thing that can really distinguish a 'true tori fan'. that feeling you get. if you know, then you know. if you don't have a clue as to what i'm talking about, then go surf for a Jewel webpage and get the hell out of my way. tootles tootsies. kerriloo^ this ocean is wrapped around that pineapple tree... and is your ... place in heaven worthgivingup these kisses th ese kiss es ? ...tamos...cooling... ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 04 Jun 1998 21:48:14 -0400 From: Beth Coulter Subject: Re: rolling stone Oh, please, this wringing of hands over "losing Tori" is getting exasperating. Come on guys, Tori is hitting it big, drawing in crowds and on the cover of Rolling Stone. Wonderful!!! How utterly Tori-ific! She is doing arenas and they are somewhat selling out. Wow! How absolutely great for her! I hear the term "true fan" bandied about and I want to tell you about a "True Fan". A true fan(tm), aka toriphile, ewf, is a person who appriciates the Magic that is Tori Amos and completely supports her in whatever she decides to do. Period. If you appriciate her, all of her, then you must support her in her growth. And you must tolerate the new fans that come along, because in those will be "True Fans"(tm). She ain't gonna be playing Arenas forever! She will one day go back to what we remember and sometimes long for. But while she is riding this wave, she expects us to be backing her. If you can't back her decisions, get off the train to Toriville. Sorry.
