Ive been wanting to get Here In My Head on CD for a long while (i have it on tape but i keep rewinding it constantly to listen over again, and my tape player is getting tired of all the work, though he really loves the song too, i just dont want to be too mean to him) So ive finally found a couple Tori singles with it on them, and now im very tempted to buy them all (I really love the song so so much) So anyway even though i do want to buy them all, I was wondering If there are particular versions that are better than others that i should definitely get, or any that i should pass over as they might be not so hot. Any input and opinions on Here. In My Head (espcially on cd singles, but not restricted to) is very much appreciated. Thanks for your time and help. lovingly, scott ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 30 May 1998 02:16:52 EDT From: Anavrin560@aol.com Subject: Re: Jackies Strength um I think it could be about the assasination, but also I think a little more stongly, because she said in that radio interview how when she was writing that song she was thinking about her own marriage and I think when she's praying for Jackie's Strength, she not praying for Jackie and hoping she'll make it, but rather shes praying to get Jackie's strength to get through her own marriage and stuff carol :-) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 30 May 1998 05:37:57 -0600 From: meade Subject: the cocaine lip gloss sale stand & the encyclopedia hello! this short but sweet message is to let you all know that my site - tori amos: a girl & her watercolour stain - has finally completed a few of its major updates. the first is the encyclopedia. it is divided into who's who, what's what, and where's where, and subdivided "in her songs" and "in her life". it is just in the beginning stages but i need lots of feedback! please help, if you can! the second is the opening of the cocaine lip gloss sale stand, where you can buy tori books and cds directly from my site. a watercolour stain is not free, it costs me money to keep it up, & i am trying to generate just a little bit to keep the site from going under and forcing me to take it down. so please, if you are still in need of a tori album, single, or related book, take a look! the prices are probably cheaper than you can get in your hometown. the url is http://stain.simplenet.com/tori/ - any & all feedback is really appreciated!! /meade **************************************************** she was a january girl...she never let on how insane it was.. tori amos *black-dove (january)* http://stain.simplenet.com/ email me@stain.simplenet.com ***************************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 30 May 1998 02:40:25 -0400 From: "Marissa Verma" Subject: Re: GOTTA SAY i must agree about the iieee comment! the last time that a tori song impacted me this strongly this quickly was probably the 1st time i heard upside down. i liked iieee so much that when i was shopping for a new email address i naturally picked it for it. to the list. i just suscribed after being gone for a good..... 4 or 5 months. seeing the list back to its old self puts a smile on my face. i actually want to read it now. when i left it was flame after flame with plenty of uniteresting emails thrown in as well. i would like to say hello again to everyone. before i was bluegirl at mlverma@odin.cmp.ilstu.edu. now i am living in columbus and going to art school. i am so much happier with life. new tori, new school, new state :) well, im off to go listen to iieee again. ~~marissa ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 30 May 1998 10:20:05 -0500 From: "Giovanni" Subject: Billboard Reviews Hey everyone, Just letting you know that Billboard Online now has their complete review database up at their website, so if you want to do a search and read what they had to say about Tori, you can go right ahead. http://www.billboard.com And you can also read their review of "Y Kant Tori Read"... with the "bimbo music" comment included. I got this hint awhile ago but I haven't posted anything. Bear with me. "she was a january girl she never let on how insane it was in that tiny kinda scary house by the woods . . ." Tori lost her baby around those cold winter months. I assuming that the insides of Ms. Amos could be a pretty scary place with all the ghosts that have haunted her in the past. And you gotta admit - that womb can be pretty tiny. "black-dove . . . you're not a helicopter you're not a cop out either . .. " Her little baby could have been white and precious - alive, if you will. Children can be fascinated with helicopters (ok, so I'm stretching it here). She doesn't want her little girl to be to think she's a "cop out". "You don't need a space ship they don't know you've already lived on the other side of the galaxy . . ." Now, I've gotten this idea from connecting a couple of her songs and the background ideas I get from a couple of other songs. She's saying that her babies alive and well on the other side. She doesn't need a space ship to be there because she came from there and simply returned. In Tori's version of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas", she uses a very galactil sounding whirling thing that just reminds a person of the concoction they created in "Contact". She also just explodes at that part. It was amazing in concert - out of this world. I agree with your Thelma and Louise connection about getting back to Texas and I think the blue dress comes in in that she would probably "give away her blue blue (wedding) dress" to just have her baby back. Her "spark" was supposed to come before they got married. Anyway- nobody's brought in this interpretation. It's really the only way I can think of it. There was just something about seeing her perform it that I thought of this. Take it anyway you will. It's probably my favorite song on the album. Oh, and it just seems so fairy-tale like. A child's tale. rebecca ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 30 May 1998 13:03:07 -0400 From: Beth Coulter Subject: Re: Jackies Strength At 02:16 AM 5/30/98 EDT, Anavrin560@aol.com wrote: > >um I think it could be about the assasination, but also I think a little more >stongly, because she said in that radio interview how when she was writing >that song she was thinking about her own marriage and I think when she's >praying for Jackie's Strength, she not praying for Jackie and hoping she'll >make it, but rather shes praying to get Jackie's strength to get through her >own marriage and stuff > >carol :-) > Thanks Carol, that was very good. Also to keep in mind...Jackie O suffered child loss and was widowed not once but twice. She always kept a strong face to the camera, and when she couldn't have a strong face, she hid in reclusion. She survived being a Kennedy (not an easy task) and being first lady (again, not an easy task). She (tori) definately is not praying *for* Jackie (simply because the lady don't need any prayers), but praying to keep her strength in the face of adversity. Growing up in the 60's and 70's, Jackie was sort of goal for young girls. All the grace and class she had as she waded her way through an incredibly hard life (no, money doesn't make life easy), was something to aspire to. This is a song partly about this generations (mine and Tori's) struggle to find the balence between being Jackie and being ourselves. "Being a Lady" was a very important thing, but when the "virgins" are getting backstage to let the band "have their way" it was hard to stay a lady. The conflict between being yourself and being what was expected was intense. That's it from this side of the generation gap. Fairy Blessings, Bethey I'm OK when everything's not OK cause it's the Fairies Revenge they say and I have always been a Fairy *************************************************************** I gave my life to become the person I am.
