I am not sure if this is the book Tori wrote an intro for or not, but I figure this could qualify as Tori-related because he has been known to tell Tori stories when asked to. The book will be selling for $20, and I'm assuming you can only get it signed if you by the book there that day. Karin fischera@u.washington.edu >> Actually it's called Neverwhere. Shirley, and all: Don't trust this. BASS isn't going to know ANYTHING about this show, since it won't get sold through the BASS system. I know, I WORK for a BASS outlet. However, I called the Fillmore today, and found out that their box office is ONLY open Sundays, 10am-4pm, and they'll be closed Sunday the 12th for Easter. So the report that the tickets will either go on sale the 5th or the 19th is probably right on. Beth ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 2 Apr 1998 21:20:20 EST From: Adia 509 Subject: X-Files Soundtrack Personally would prefer Tori doing a track for that one instead of Godzilla, it just sounds like she would have a better chance to indulge more and let herself go. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 02 Apr 1998 21:43:51 -0500 From: Beth Coulter Subject: Tower and the Tour I enter into the fray a little hesitantly, because I agree with all points of view. Yes, the deal with Tower is Big Business getting it on. But I don't think Tori would ever consign one of her babies to live on the 'net forever. She spends too much time in the studio mixing to get the most perfect sound to have it live in cyberspace. Plus she prefers tangibles. You know, stuff you can hold and see. So this is Corporate America where the rich get richer and the consumer keeps making them money. If there was not a market for a release on the internet, then it wouldn't be happening. Yeah, Tower is going to make big bucks, so is AtRecs, and Tori and lots of others. And it is our money they are getting. But we are getting what we want, and more. I think that it is a huge compliment to the internet fan base to recognize us like this. If you don't like the idea, fine. Don't buy from Tower. Cyberspace, like America, is a "free country", so to speak. Go buy from CDNow or any others. And when "Merman" is released on a CD single, well, that's when you will hear it. As far as the tour goes, well guys, maybe it's just my neck of the woods, but I like this system. The Electric Factory is still not confirming anything to anyone, the radio stations know nothing, really know nothing and I'm not telling, no publicity outside the net at all. Now I am really hoping that come Sat Morning, April 11, I can arrive at a reasonable hour-like 8 or so, and get decent tickets at 10. I don't foresee the "camping out" and lines for miles. I could be wrong *and if you are in the tri-state area and planning on getting tickets, let me know, so I know how many people I have to beat to the front of the line ;)*, but I don't think so. I really admire all of you who are making serious road trips for both tickets and show, and I hope that you have awesome seats. I'm really sorry for those of you who can't make it at all, but you can be consoled with reports on the dent and the new album and the internet simulcast(sp?) from Chicago. But regardless of whether or not you can get to a show, you should appriciate the effort that Tori has made to make this *OUR* tour, small and intimate. WE, the people on the net are the ones that this is being aimed at. WOW!!! That is so F***ING Awesome!!! And then, when she is done catering to US, her core audience, then she is starting a world tour!!! I think Tori's management should be applauded for their efforts. The gripes about what might be, and how horrid *they* are for not giving us instant gratification aren't necessary at this point. If your ticket buying experience is absolutely the worst experience of your life, then I really want to hear about it. Same if it is good or no different than any other time. But I just would really like to hear some appriciation for the effort made. Like I said, I understand the gripes. Just, maybe it is griping about conjecture and it isn't applicable yet. Hope I haven't lit any flames of fury. I was trying to douse a bit. :) And since I didn't say it after every sentence, all of the above was only my humble opinion. I've just read the details of the Tower records deal on the Atlantic website. This for me, is the worst example of commercialism and almost effectively forcing Toriphiles to be forced to buy the album from one store. Who the hell gave them the right to dictate who gets to hear the song? What about people who don't live near a Tower store? What about people in Europe and the rest of the world? Will UK releases of FTCGH have the extra track? Will it be a B-Side? Because if it's just going to be a download, thousands of fans are going to miss out. How can they justify it? Damn, I'm cross about this. :-( Mike mike.gray@zetnet.co.uk - ICQ : 6200976 Webpages - http://www.users.zetnet.co.uk/mikegray/ Sleeper, Dubstar, Meredith Brooks, Celine Dion, Gloria Estefan, Erasure and more. Tori Amos - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 02 Apr 1998 20:29:52 PST From: "stasia halyn" Subject: Tori covering Ani I agree, Little Plastic Castle is a good record, and Ani does rock, but I don't think it's fair to say that Tori should cover Ani's work. Think about it: Tori does her thing, and Ani does her thing and they are each really awesome in their own way. And Tori's work wouldn't be as special and magical if anyone else did it, because it's about Tori's experiences, her life, and that's why we all love her. Tori's music is Tori's truth. And the same goes for Ani. Ani's music is Ani's truth, her life, her experiences. Alana Davis's cover of 32 Flavors did nothing for me. That's because Ani's music is Ani's truth, and Alana's own songs are her truth. So I don't think that Tori should cover Ani. It'd be like saying 'Oh, Tori, your music is good, but there's this other girl, Ani DiFranco, she's in your musical generation, and I like her such-and-such song better, so why don't you play it instead?' Nobody get pissed, it's just how I feel.
