Our intent was to create a forum for high quality Tori discussion that also had a lower volume of message traffic. Some of you may have noticed that precious-things has evolved into something that doesn't meet many of those criteria. This is no longer acceptable. Therefore, after some discussion of various alternatives, woj and I have decided to change precious-things from an open format to a moderated one. For those of you not familiar with how a moderated list functions, it means that all messages sent to the list go to a moderator (usually the list owner) who then looks them over and forwards to the list only those messages he or she feels belong on the list. Basically, the moderator acts as a filter. The switch from open to moderated will likely take place later this week, and before it occurs woj and I will send out a message detailing what sort of messages are likely to make it through moderation and what sort are likely to be rejected. Woj and I have not made this decision lightly (since it involves more work for us), but with the new album coming out (and the increase in subscribers and message volume that will bring) we decided that we needed to bring precious-things back in line with our original concept. OK, as Precious Things is about to go moderated, I'm not going to clog the list with this (not even for the time being) - the best thing to do would be for everyone interested in *contributing* a track to mail me and tell me what song they'd like to do to my private address. I'd then keep the list updated of progress in a short bulletin whenever appropriate (is that OK, Mr.Moderater, sir?). Then when it's finished just post to the list of how to get hold of a copy. Once I've got say, 10-15 contributors lined up, then I'll say that the project will go ahead. Hey- I think the idea of a tribute CD, or some such Precious Things talent organizing sorta thing, is a fabulous idea. There is tons of talent out there I know it... We could have the art work done by some of the Precious Things artists, music, poetry, blah, blah, blah... There once was someone putting together a Tori covered CD but I responded to them and got nothing back so I don't know what happened with that, but I do believe that doing it through Precious Things would be a good idea. Anyways, anyways... The point here I think, for me, is that I would like to contribute my band's version of Flying Dutchman. I would love to be able to put it on a Tori tribute CD, especially if there was a chance one of them could find their way into her hands. I'd love to help out and do anything possible to get this together... Somebody e-mail me, please!! Thanx for listening... Hello my lovely Dirtyfishydishcloths, Strange how Tori never says cloth in the song, or am I just deaf. Speaking of which. . . Remember me, the girl who signed "Winter" for her American Sign Language class and they adored the song so much they didn't even notice how I missigned "horses". Anywho. . . It's time to sign another song! Wooo, I know you all are just peeing in your pants of excitement. What can I say? Just kidding. Most of you won't give a damn, but I am going to tell you anyway for I am sleep-deprived and on the edge of my sanity. I am going to sign "China" seeing how that is the most easy to sign. Very blunt and straight to the point so my lazy self will not have to decipher the conceptual meanings and so forth. Does anyone else have any better suggestions? I own some of Tori's covers and b-sides that might be easy to sign as well, but I don't listen to those as often for I dubbed them off a friend and I hate casettes. But really, if any knows any straightforward Tori songs, or non-Tori songs she's covered, I would love to know. I really don't like "China", but it's the only easy Tori song I can think of and I will not sign anything besides Tori. Heh, well; I might sign "Brick" by Ben Folds Five, but that will get too involved methinks. There was a Tori reference on SNL. During Weekly Update with Norm McDonald (Did you know they fired him from that particular skit because he brought ratings down? Aww, I luff Norm.) they had the Ana Gastmeyer (spelling, I know) chick as Cinder Calloun (spelling) and she was all blabbing about how she got to be on the Lilith Fair Tour and she starts talking about how she "hung with Tori Amos and she's really funny. Yeah we were waiting around to see this band called Rage Against Incest. And the Fiona Snapple came along. . . " I was mildly confused for Tori was not on the Lilith Fair tour. Oh well, who knows? Thank you for your time, I am anxiously awaiting Tori's next album and I hope she has many babies. I luff (anyone have Tori's cover of "Love Song"? If you do, listen to her say "luff" instead of "love". It's soooo cute.) her. Take care all. bi bi. (I haven't had time to try to decipher the lyrics to these yet, since they aren't printed on the promo...sorry kids...I hope a description is ok...) Jackie's Strength (4:26) oh god is this one beautiful...reminds me of her earlier stuff...simple... talks about a girl getting married and virgins getting backstage but I think it is basically telling the story of Jackie and how she lived through it all...reference to David Cassidy is in there as well. This song brings me to tears. And the cool part is that I wasn't sure how I'd react to the band being there...the truth is you don't notice it...it's just tori in the raw...and then you realize that there are added elements to her piano playing...I thought it might distract but oh no it just makes it more powerful in a subtle way. Rasberry Swirl (3:56) If there is one song that tori's gonna give to BT or Armand to sample, it's this one. It's highly sensual in content, and this is where the band comes out...I SWEAR in the very final seconds of the track she literally has recorded herself well um...reaching her sexual peak, if I may say. Either that or she is faking it exceptionally well. But of course since it's tori it is beautiful and not dirty at all...it makes the song so powerful. All of her work sounds VERY medieval almost, very fantasy-like...I think it has to do with her surroundings in Cornwall, and Camelot is mentioned in Jackie's Strength. I LOVE the feel of it...but she is right...it's totally different than her older work, yet somehow familiar...like it was always there and we just discovered it somewhere. (I'm sorry if I'm not explaining this very well) Playboy Mommy (4:08) This is a very sad yet triumphant song about her miscarraige...I think she uses weird keyboards in this one and I'm wondering if she's got the harpsichord out anyway, contrary to public opinion. Very simple...slight embellishments from the band with her piano...but very subtle so it has the feel of LE(if u want to compare it to the past 3) don't judge me so harsh now so you got a playboy mommy the last words are... - -I'll be home to take you in my arms...- VERY powerful. Again tori has reached inside herself and given us her soul. All of it. This woman is ruthless with her compassion. I do hope you guys get to hear it soon... Also...if by any fluke any of you are in the Valparaiso area(5-mile radius) tune in on Monday night(well tuesday morning actually) to WVUR Radio Valparaiso from 12-2 am and I'll be playing the entire promo. I guess you little wav people could scout it out if you're from the Chicago area and crazy enough...or hell just come to the station and I'd be overjoyed to have visitors...as long as they stayed to out for ice cream afterwards... lovins and hope this helped... mikewhy...yer welcome to post this on your site if you want kerriloo^ "I don't care if they eat me alive... I was wondering if Tori has any Enhanced CDs out there. Some CDs that are enhanced don't specify that they are (eg: Fiona Apple's Tidal CD) and so I thought that maybe some of you out there knew. Oh yeah! I just bought the Caught a Lite Sneeze single with That's What I Like Mick(The Sandwich Song) and Graveyard. I think it's really great! I really love the Sandwich song..I have the other Caught a Lite Sneeze with London Girls and Frog on my Toe and I love that one too. Does Hodges and Peacock have out a CD? Where did Tori get the idea to cover these songs? I also got the Great Expectation soundtrack and I love Siren. I only heard one of those 30-second clips from the web and I didn't really like it then but it really is growing on me...AND (don't worry there's only 2 more to go..) I got the Cornflake Girl single with Daisy Dead Petals and Sister Janet. I love that album too....the record stores are really coming out with a lot of Tori's older stuff and I am so happy because of it! And, my boyfriend mailed me Silent All These Years with Thoughts, Me and a Gun and Upside Down...I think it's the Reissue of Me and a Gun. I had the Little Earthquake piano book and I read Tori's inserpt on Thoughts and how she basically made it up and I was just stunned once I got the album with it on it! She really is a talented girl! I would never be able to come up with something like that...of course, I'm not Tori.... ~*Lyn*~ **************************************************************************** **** caught a ride with the moon I know I know you well well better than I used to HAZE all clouded up my mind in the DAZE of the why it could've never been so you say and I say you know you're full of wish and your "baby baby baby babies" I tell you there're pieces of me you've never seen maybe she's just pieces of me you've never seen well ~~~~~~~~~~Tear in Your Hand~~~~~~~~~~~~~ **************************************************************************** **** ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Mar 1998 00:08:54 -0600 From: raisin girl Subject: Re: RDT Fanzine speaking of fanzines, does take to the sky have a web site? i used to subcribe and want to again... leah ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Mar 1998 00:27:17 EST From: WeirdyBoi Subject: Re: just a question umm..
