In the UK they regularly release two different singles for various songs. (Examples Caught a Lite Sneeze, Talula) And to further clarify, at EQS, they are taking Pre-Orders for Both of the single. Actually, you can't order them seperately. You have to order both. If you order them before the 3rd, you get a dollar discount on each. Okay, if anyone has any further questions ask me. Two reasons: a) Trent didn't exactly "make Manson what it is". Though he produced it (and, if you care to believe some, was the individual responsible for scraping Manson & co off the floor and making them record), he didn't write the songs and had little to do with the original idea, save for synthesizing it and getting it out there. b) There's a big difference btwn Trent and Manson. Just because Trent worked with Manson doesn't mean they're doing the same thing. Trent seems to me to write more about human emotion, and while his output can be shocking, he's not as calculating as Manson -- he's only released a few songs with the intention of shocking an audience, where Manson has recorded two calculating EPs for this very purpose. >how is that any different from 'I wanna smash the faces of all the >beautiful >boys, those Christian boys"? Basically Marilyn is expressing >the same exact >sentiment from the male perspective. I beg to differ. Tori's been through the church, and has an educated opinion about it -- she knows how religion and spirituality and how they can hurt or help people. She has a very open-minded approach, where Manson (while he has his own first-hand experience with Christianity) chucked the entire thing out th window. He refuses to see how someone could benefit from religion or spirituality. I don't mean to be quite so censorious or prudish...Manson has a right to believe and express what he wants, whether that belief and expression comes from a real hatred of the church or (more likely) a need to shock people out of their money. Tori, on the other hand, doesn't just draw from what is evil or shocking. She realises how the church has injured people's spirits, but she draws more from her experience as a storyteller. Rather than write diatribe after diatribe about how Christianity failed her, she takes the approach of a storyteller and tells us about her experience. It's up to us to decide what to do with that knowledge, and what kind of perspective to put that into in our everyday lives. i wish Manson respected his audience as much. *^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^Chelsea, the mod pixie^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^* tugboat@channel1.com*Cinnamon Stick magazine (coming soon online) *^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^ "It was bait and switch, just seven minutes in heaven, but we called it even to even have it last that long." - --Waitresses, "Make The Weather" ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Mar 1998 22:42:59 -0600 From: "Jennifer Jacobsen" Subject: Re: Tori's cover of Hurt I love NIN as well and love Hurt. Manson puts on his fake self goes out there and does > what his followers expect him to, he doesn't portray himself. > > phew! > -Jenn :) I agree with what you're saying about Manson and Tori being opposites in approach.. he's trying to give a visual representation of the sickness he feels inside, but it's definitely to distance people, primarily becaus ehe feels damn uncomfortable with people liking him and being famous, which is what Antichrist Superstar is all about.. "I know that I can turn you on, I wish I could just turn you off.. I never wanted this." However, my point about the Manson/trent connection is something I think a lot of you don't realize... Trent found MM, trent signed MM and promoted them heavily, and Trent cocreated much of the music on the albums. he definitely identifies strongly with Marilyn and supports him. I understand it's hard to get away from MM's stage presence and all of that, in my opinion that really draws away from the music. But to say they have no talent kinda boggles my mind. As a lyricist and a singer, Marilyn is a lot better than Trent, and the sampling choices are at least as good, Trent having contributed to much of what's on there. The enntire album is a huge metaphor of a hated worm being elevated to a butterfly, and therefore admired and loved, when the core of the sickness inside the worm is still there, and there is some dissonance as the worm doesn't understand why the sudden admiration, coming froma world that has always rejected him. So the buttlrfly falls, the angel falls, having to deal with a new low. Obviously MM is talking about his rise in fame and the way he feels about it, along with his past experiences, relationships with women and with his mother, etc. It's really quite lyrically brilliant, he has a definitely flair for language. I know none of youa re going to buy any of this though unles syou experience it for yourself, so just try to strip away the hype and listen to it for what it is, maybe you'll understand.
