OK forgive me for rambling on this one -- *these are just my opinions*, and your mileage may vary - just this one person's viewpoint, etc. I think there's a difference between a *rush* you get with someone you hardly know and the one that you get after you know them a long time, cuz how can you really love someone you don't know? So, if the rush is there without a basis in friendship and trust, then this is a sign that *something* is going on to be aware of -- at least that's how *I* might interpret this quote... > Mmmm, ok. An example. I help others because helping others makes me feel > good about myself. I don't necessarily have to love them. And when I help > them I feel I'm the most generous person in the world, but I'm really > selfish. Because it's not the *helping* part that I like. It's not the > *sacrifice* part that I like, it's the *feeling good about myself* part that > I like. Why not like *both* the helping and the feeling good about one's self? It is your Goddess-given right to feel good about yourself, and all these inventions of the human mind tell you not to... knowing that you're doing the right thing is something to feel good about; forgiving one's self when one is not perfect is also good, and good to feel good about. > Then we can only choose between being masochist and selfish. There's nothing > else. I hate this. Sacrifice in and of itself is not noble; you can look to certain periods of history in Christianity where this was taken to *extremes*, also in yogic tradition, and many of the *established* religions. Why do we insist on making it so difficult for ourselves. "like rain falling to the earth, it should be that simple" (Ingrid Karklins, "Dreams" from the Red Hand CD). Another thought when presented with a duality: look for the third which is neither. It almost always exists (or the two choices are illusions). Then, Shirlgirl writes: > Hmmm. I don't know if what you just described is always true. I've been in > relationships where I've given more than I've "gotten" and vice-versa as > well. I really hate that because it seems petty - you know, keeping score > - - and I'm probably guilty of it, but then I don't know if that's love. Well you owe it to yourself to evaluate the relationship and move on if it isn't right for you. Keeping score helps you evaluate how you feel. No guilt for looking out for yourself! This would be a natural stage, I would think, in the evolution of a relationship -- if at some point it is established for a long time, you'd probably just let it go and know every thing's ok. But then, if things were going amiss, you'd get warning signs: feeling like you're getting the short end of the stick -- then it's time to talk. It's ok to express this... if the other person can't handle it, then there's some work to do. BIG IMHO. Sorry to get so far off-topic, these *are* kinda side-issues to the vampire thing. David said: "so i guess this is really it for me on the topic of boots. if someone would be interested in continuing this in private email, i'll dig it." I'd have to agree that the issue of whether it's a good idea to make boots of every show widely available is about over, so feel free to CC: me if you want to keep talking about it. Moving on, there are two things I do want to know about regarding the legality of bootlegging shows (feel free to reply to me in private): 1) How illegal is it to bootleg a Tori concert? What are the penalties if caught? How much fines, jailtime, etc. if any? 2) Given that there is a decent quality bootleg available for most of the concerts on Tori's new tour, how illegal would it be to ask for a tape to duplicate it onto as well as a small monetary countribution THAT WOULD GO DIRECTLY TO RAINN IN THAT PERSON's NAME? I realize that it is /very/ illegal to charge for making copies of bootlegs, however this wouldn't be for the copies. As David and some others have mentioned, we'd /all/ much rather have the money go to Tori and to RAINN than to some greedy bootlegger who's just in it for the money. And on to other things, if you're interested in this idea of booting the concerts and making the available, please let me know. I never ever did drugs, and I never have, but I did smoke a few times. (and it was incredibly disgusting, i did it to fit in) I became a bully, because my friends were. I got into a lot of fights, and my grades suffered a great deal. I've never been a mean, angry girl, until I became friends with these girls. Now, I'm a Raisin Girl, and I'm very happy with my life, my friends, and how I treat other people. When I was a Cornflake Girl, I picked fights with other girls over anything, I was mean to my friends, I fought with my mom constantly, and I hated everyone. I know I was very depresssed at that time, and it was quite obvious. Now, looking back at what I did and how I treated others, I feel very very bad, I can't even put it into words. By the way, I > am 25 and God with a Big G (Tori Amos) is the best. Hey Len, I'm 27 and also a Gen X-er. You know, brought up on Land of the Lost, MTV (when it first came on the air), played a lot of D&D, and listened to all of that 80's music like Twisted Sister, Pink Floyd, DuranDuran, Rush, Debbie Gibson, and Heart. But when Tori came along, I knew she was around forever. Her music and lyrics are simply too creative. It is hard for me to classify any favorite Tori song. They all have some kind of greatness to them. (I'm writing an article for the school paper, and I wanted to use this term to describe Lori Carson.) please help me!!!! love, nick ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 18 Feb 1998 16:09:46 +0000 From: "Planet Tori" Subject: But my knees are like water!
