Each song grabbed onto me and I listened to each one several times in a row. (uh, this is after the initial full run) So "Crucify" talked to me on a level I don't really like, but am accustomed to, you know--*I'm really trying not to be a martyr now, but why won't everyone lay off me?* Struck me right in my heart as the tears rolled off my face as I nodded my head in agreement. Next song--*Oh God, that's me, I'm that "Girl"* I will spare you the song by song emotional reaction, but there was as strong a reaction to each and everyone of the songs. (Being highly suicidal at the time, Happy P made me the happiest). I listened to UtP and BfP in much the same manner, but being *different pieces of work* and me being in a different place, I wasn't grabbed in the same way. I liked some songs better than others, then that would change. Then I got into the wonderful world of Tori Trades and started hearing everything else. Same thing. Some I like better than others and then that changes. The two songs that I hold closest to my heart, that have never lost their place, are "Winter" *cause the girl saved my life* and "Upside Down" *cause this girl helps me keep my life*. Now I said this would be longesh, but only one answer, My all time Favorite Number One: "Take to the Sky". been there done that. I'm not making any money or saving any souls *so I have been told* with what I do (write), I lived in emotional and enviromental Siberia's (everyone know TttS was origianally named "Russia"?) for most of my life, and every six weeks I sing along as the amonia fills the house "I dyed my hair red today". And nowadays, well, I truly have taken to the sky and am flying well *most of the time* Still with me? Good for you. Fairy dust sprinkles to cure eye strain for you. ;) And to quickly reply to the comment that "PT" has evolved with a *new ending* and all that--When I heard her *new* version for the first time (at the RAINN concert), the pain and agony I heard filling the room; literally overwhelming me and I *had to* run out of the auditorium. I felt so sick, as if *all* my personal pain had been dredged up to the surface in the past 4 minutes and I spent a bit of time dry heaving in the ladies. I still have trouble hearing it on the various DDI tapes I have, but at least I know it's coming. Yeah, I know, thanks for *sharing* Sorry, did warn you. I just think she deserves better. Yes, the shirt does capture a time in all of us that needs to be expressed. but dont mind me if i put duct tape over the recoverring. i did NOT mean to say it was ignorant to wear the shirt. it is ignorant that whoever decided this, with all her material, picked possibly the most upsetting catch phrase and put it on a shirt. Like i said-shock value sellsand so non-Tori people like this shirt. Anyone who hasnt heard Tori is going to judge her on that. My Grandmother this winter started reading my Images and Insights book, and of course, turned to the quote about Mary Magdalene getting it on with Jesus. She was furious. And all i could say was, "Grandma, if only you heard her music." Maybe im alone in this. But i just dont think it is how Tori should be seen. Theres nothing wrong with wearing your shirts-YOU know what it means and thats all that matters. But you cant expect people not to judge you. I'm not sure if this thread has already been addressed....but here it goes.... In 1991 Tori released "Little Earthquakes" with the tract "Tear in your hand". Within the song she sings this:"Maybe she's just pieces of me you've never seen" In 1994 Jewel released The title "Pieces of you" with of course the title song, in which she sings: "ugly girl...do you hate her cause she's pieces of you?" Now, I love Jewel, she is very emotional and has a very unique and beautiful voice. However, I do hear a lot of Tori influence in her music....does anyone else? Not only in her style, but in her lyrics. Has this ever been addresssed? Wondering....( more really deep thoughts....)
