Could it be that her parents have slowly come to accept her identity as Tori, and combine that with the fact that they always called her Ellen, and now refer to her as "Tori Ellen"? Her family's christmas letter (of which Doug Smeath was sent a copy) refers to her as Tori Ellen. - -- Ken Tough Cornwall ken@objectech.co.uk United Kingdom ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 2 Feb 1998 12:27:47 GMT From: bos197@soton.ac.uk Subject: The conceert misbehavours If you think screamers spoil it all...... I apologise in advance for the virtually total irrelevance of this mail When i went to see the Manic Street Preachers in 1997, there were loads of pissed-up (excuse me), obnoxious "Kevs"(meat-heads, whatever you call them) there because "A design for Life" had become a club anthem that summer much to my misery, whereas i was there for the older stuff. anywho, the aforementioned song was started and up came the line "I wish i had a bottle...in my dirty face", and two of these cretins started waving around a beer bottle. My freinds and i moved clear, and i dragged my girlfriend out of the way, but it got smashed on the railings and the stewards did nothing!!!!!! I had a go at the idiot responsible, and he started to threaten my girlfriend, at which i just got everyone to move away. Later in the same concert a friend and i exacted our revenge in a physical manner upon the responsible party (don't start mailing me as i already know this makes me as bad as him) but my girlfriend was that (>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>) close to getting slashed. So just think. I'm not saying screamiing doesn't ruin a concert, but think how bad it could be. Did it really happen this >way? >any help is appreciated > >Lissa > If I may be so bold (excuse me King Charlie, you were right, but a quote from the red-head always helps) I'd like to type in Tori's answer to the name game. From "Upside Down" Issue 2, Summer 1993. In the "QT" Tori answers these questions herself. begin quote: > "Well, I guess all of them [the stories of where her name came from] have a bit of truth. When you decide to change your name, there are going to be a lot of reasons. There were for me, it wasn't just one thing. Those are two of many reasons [the tree & the fact she was no-Tori-ous for wearing red leather pants to choir practice]. I had this girlfriend, Linda, who came down to see me perform. I was only 17, playing in this club. Linda had a boyfriend on her arm whom I hadn't seen before, and never again. I sat down with them during a break and he said to me "you know, you don't look like an Ellen to me." I replied, "I know, I am changing my name" and he goes "you look like a Tori to me" and I said "I think you're right." I thought about this for the next few days and decided I really liked the name and that was that." > end quote. I will repeat my plea to you all. As someone who gave up her given name and took on another, *I* would not want to be reminded of the name I gave up (actually threw away). Tori is very appriciative of the fact that we all care enough to find out her 'given name' I'm sure. She would be more appriciative if we kept it to ourselves and not shout it out to her. She knows who she was once. She doesn't need to be reminded. When a person gives up their 'given name', it is gone, except for the memory of why that name was given up. The womans name is "Tori Amos". The only one with half a right to call her "Tori Ellen" or "Myra Ellen" is her immediate family (and if she's like me, she's constantly reminding them, "uh, it's Tori now guys"). I am a computer science student and now I have to do one. The idea is this, you put all toris lyrics, and then you add links to explain any obscure references she makes. due to the nature of toris lyrics, these explanations will be subjective and I'm all for multiple interpretations. An example of what I mean is that if you clicked on the line "... and the dream king", you would get a short note on Neil Gamon and Sandman. Also I intend putting a short biographies of how tori felt the time she wrote the albums. Basically I want to try and help people understand toris lyrics without trying to explain them. I believe toris lyrics are like great poetry and much of the enjoyment in them is that they are universal and all interpretion is subjective. I think this would be a great resource, however it is also quite an undertaking. I would like any help, any one would like to provide. Also if any one knows of similar web pages, or any good source of the data I need I would grateful. All (Any) Input would be greatfuly received. Finally I apologize if you do not consider this post appropriate to this mailing group. It's the author getting confused. Yes, she did record that show, as well as all of the UTP shows. (I saw an ADAT at every show I attended, and assume it was in their standard equipment rack) But what the author is really referring to is the "Past the mission" 2-CD set, which included (i think) 2 songs from that Sanders show, and 5 other live songs, along with PTM. Whoever sings is sound a lot like Tori... Could this be true? What that Tori? Thinking about it now, I was lame-brain enough to not check the credits at the end of movie.
