Especially with list volume as high as it has been lately, we just can't let our own mailboxes be flooded with bounce messages. If your inbox does reach its limit, or your isp has mail problems, and afterwards you don't reveive any messages from precious-things for a few days, you may want to try subscribing again. A word of advice... if your email inbox is limited to a certain number of messages I highly recommend you switch to the digest form of precious-things so your inbox doesn't fill up when list traffic is heavy, or at least make sure you check your email often. I'm not sure if she does, and it sounds just like a remake of Precious Things to me. So much of what Tori's religious songs are about searching for truth and coming to an educated conclusion that truth (or, rather, her perception of the truth) isn't within the church, though there are some valuable lessons to be learned within it. Manson isn't critical of the church; if you're Christian, even a good Christian, he doesn't want to talk to you. (If you have any comments, please address them to me personally, and not the list. Thank you.) That said...the song I most dream of hearing Tori cover is "Harding Street" by Tom Rapp. Rapp is a psychedelic folkie from the 1960s who used his music as a way to find the truth (for want of a better phrase). His music is limned with Christian symbolism, but much of it comes to the same conclusion as Tori - - looking for the truth, and finding both beneficial lessons and much charlatanism within the Christian church. "Harding Street" is about a missed connection between a man and a deeply religious girl, who has sacrificed parts of her being for Christ, and the man (narrator) thinking about how to approach this girl. Lyrically, it's appropriate themes for Tori, and the music is this beautiful tinkly piano line. Hearing her sing and play it would just kill me. I would also love to hear her perform "Remember (Christmas)" or "The Moonbeam Song" by Nilsson. Oh yeah, and "Tigerlily" and "Bewitched" by Luna. It's not really a cover for either, but the singer/songwriter/math geek Scott Miller has a great deal of similarities with Tori's work, both lyrically and in their stylistic approach - his most recent CD with his band, the Loud Family, sounds like a male analouge to BfP. Hearing them work together would bounce my cookies. As for others covering Tori's music...Rasputina would kill covering "Blood Roses" or "The Wrong Band". I know I can think of more, but that's the one that comes closest to mind. Incidentially, I liked the idea of her covering "Halfway Down The Stairs." :) - --Chelsea ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Jan 1998 21:36:12 -0800 From: Beth Winegarner Subject: Purple Monkey Andrew asked: > Wasn't the "purple monkey" part in reference to an imaginary friend Tori > had as a child? Umm... no. It's a reference to a stuffed purple monkey that Tori takes around with her, puts on stage sometimes, and stuff. I even knew his name at one point, so I'm sure someone around here knows what it is. Beth (*masturbating*?
