Hi! Well, it's been an interesting morning. Let me tell you why... Yesterday, if you recall, I uploaded "Etienne-Live" to my site, and asked that if people downloaded it, they took the time to sign my guestbook. And yet, somewhat oddly, the number of people who have downloaded the file (I can check the file access statistics), doesn't really correspond with the number of people who have signed the guestbook, that number being one.... the other being considerably higher. So, I gather that no-one will mind in the new year when I re-locate the Tori RA files, and password the page, sending that password out to the people who signed the guestbook - after all, they're the only people who heard the files, right? Anyway, enough bitching, due to a request from the guy who *did* sign the guestbook, I've now uploaded "Humpty Dumpty" and "Ode To The Banana King" to the pages. Etienne is still there. Perhaps this time people will think about the time I took *before* they download without signing the guestbook? This is just an extension of the past 5 years. The crowds were generally large and respectful before the shows on the DDI tour. And there was Tori letting us have access. You can stand in a group of 100 people knowing they all have similar feelings and get a glimpse of the power Tori taps from her fans. She knows what her fans think of her and why they are waiting for hours to say something or just meet her. So we will see a new different piece of Tori in 1998. Enjoy the change, but why think that her core feelings toward her fans would change? I can't explain it, but after meeting her, I'd bet my life that she'll find a way to give us access, just as she has over the past years. I've been lurking a little while but wanted to reply to the question about BfP being more *popular* than LE on the list. I am noticing that people tend to like the Tori album they heard first the best. A lot of people got turned on to Tori from this last album. I got "turned on" in '92, so LE will always be the "ultimate Tori" to me. Like it was her belief system that LE outlined, and UtP and Boys are just continuations of her journey. I relate to LE with every song, truly relate, and the other two are just good music that I find meaning in. Does that make sense? Oh, and my big flub was Take to the Sky: I could have sworn she said: Excuse me while I save my life, instead of "Have a seat while I take to the sky". But I think that's the fun of Tori, sort of like translating hyrogliphics. It's deeper than the words. I agree with that, but I, myself first heard UtP, which is currently not my favorite one, I like BfP the best, except the first time I heard it I hated all but 2 songs, but after the second time I heard it I loved it. About Tori's new sound, I would also have to say that I am afraid, not really of the sound, but I guess I'm afraid of Tori's success, she does deserve to succeed, but after many people succeed other people don't get sick of the music. If Tori's new album becomes very popular many posers will like it and that just degrades the album and Tori. I know my friend she absolutely hated Tori, and if one of her songs came on the radio she'd immediately turn the station, but now because it's played way more often she likes her and she tries to tell me about Tori, and it's dumb because I know more about her than she does, but she acts like she knows everything. If she asked to borrow my CD's I would say no because she's too much of a bandwagon fan. And if her album goes big many Tori fans may not even like it. That's what I am afraid of. ~Hanna~ "Can't stop what's coming can't stop what is on it's way..."-TA ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 20 Dec 1997 18:45:56 -0500 From: kel11@scasd.k12.pa.us (Kim/BlkSwan07) Subject: Re: Hanna's email I'm gonna have to totally agree with her on this. I don't hate people that often, but there is NOTHING I hate more than Tori posers. When she came to my town I got so infuriated at all the girls that were like "Yeah, I'm a huge fan of hers." It ripped me up, I would be shaking with anger when anyone would come up to my tori-clad locker and start rambling on about her, and start saying totally untrue, inane stuff. And then professing their love to her. It got so bad that I just decided not to make anymore mix tapes for these people because I have the largest collection of her stuff in my school, and I was getting sick of girls bugging me. Of course, a week after the concert it stopped. I couldn't stand them, there were a couple at her shows, and they stuck out, you could tell in a second who was there to really see tori. I may be acting like a bit of an elitest, I'm sorry, but the title 'Ears with Feet' and Toriphile are hard earned ones. That's what I am afraid >of. I simply don't understand this dynamic at all. If people decide to like or dislike an album based on its popularity with the public, then they are simply driven by market forces and the opinion of others. There is only one thing that should factor into one's decision about an album--the music. If Tori is true to her talent and makes the best album she can, then it will be great. And that will not change at all no matter how the public receives it. The only person that could degrade the album would be Tori, if she decided to abandon her true talent and simply write for the masses. That is highly unlikely to happen. *No one* outside of Tori can degrade the work. So what I am saying is that people who only like what is on the radio, and people who dislike music because it is on the radio and popular, are really the same sad people. (And Hanna I am not talking about you! Just the people you are scared about.) They allow others to decide what is good or not. They are both "posers" in my opinion. Ignore others and decide the value of an album based on the music/lyrics alone! I guess thats why I hate some of my friends (I have this problem...I can't be mean in person unless they're really mean to me) because all they care about is whats popular, for example my friend, Anna, she got cargo jeans, but she didn't wear them yet, well this girl at my school who isn't popular at all, (Anna's not either, but she thinks she is...most people dislike her.) well that girl who is so unpopular, got the same cargo jeans, so Anna's returning them, I think that's dumb, she's just a stuck-up conceited bitch, she's the same girl that started liking, or thinking that she liked Tori after SATY was played a lot on the radio, so now Anna's telling her mom, with the pants thing that she wants flare pants, even though this summer when I got flare pants she said, "I don't want those because too many people have them..." She also said that when I got the shoes she wanted, and then she got the same shoes. Those are the kind of people that piss me off. Oh, and this summer Dave Matthews was her favorite band based upon the song, "Crash into me" and she likes Chumbawumbs because they are popular, kind of, just over-played. So those are the kinds of people who I don't want buying this album if it gets big, and that's why I am scared. I don't want Tori to become popular by posers, I want her to become more popular with real fans, not dumb people who don't deserve or understnad any of the messages Tori is trying to open up because they are all too ignorant. You don't have to believe me, maybe I'm just talking from my ass, and I'm only 13, but who knows? It's what I think, I don't have to be backed up. ~Hanna~ "I come to share a personal, a real personal secret, and it's reciprocal, I get a lot back from that audience, I'm very dependant on the crowd, very dependant." -TA ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 20 Dec 1997 20:42:30 PST From: "Hanna Paulus" Subject: Shoe Size I am going to write again while I am waiting for the quicktime video of God to load, I don't know Tori's exacts shoe size, but I would probably guess 7 or 7 1/2 because she is 5'5 I think either that or 5'4, I'm 5'5 and my I wear 7 and for my height I'm considered to have small feet, and I know her feet aren't big at all. I mean who I was talking about before, Anna, she's 5'4 and she wears size 9 shoes, and my friend who is 5'3, I actually like her, she's not a dumb ass, but she wears 8 1/2, and my friend who is also very ibto Tori and got me another Tori CD, I only have 4, remember I am only 13, and I kind of can't get a job till this summer, and once I have a job almost all of my check is going to go towards Tori's imports and things of the sort, they have a ton at our music store, I have the import After the Rain, it's good, and I got it for $20 instead of $30. Okay well any way, my Tori orientated friend is 5'4 and she wears 7. So that's how I am getting my results, but maybe she does wear 6 or 6 1/2 because my mom is 5'8 and she wears 7 1/2 or 8, so who knows.
