Sorry to disappoint you, but that particular recording is not a demo. It is taken from a radio performance for the Dutch radio programme '2 Meter Sessies' (2 meter sessions), sometime in spring 1992. The recording of 'China' was broadcast at the end of the programme, and the 'sounds of nature' you hear in the background are from the programme's end tune. I seem to recall that tune was taken from a song by Adrian Belew (or Laurie Anderson?). The "solo piano demo's" for 'Leather' and 'Crucify' (tracks 8 and 13 on the 'Demos and outtakes' cd) are from that same radio session. I don't know what state you live in, but it sounds like it's > illegal in your state too if the owner is afraid of getting caught > selling bootlegs. Selling bootlegs is illegal everywhere in the US. CD boots are breaking federal copywrite laws. However, a lot of stores who carry them will have them out in the open. It's not a question of it being illegal in that area, it's a question of whether or not anyone is going to take the time/effort to actually attempt to bust a store for stocking them. It doesn't happen very often {and I'd be willing to say that a store in a nice rural area probably doesn't have that much to worry about}, but it does happen. And the store owner, besides getting in trouble with the law, can loose a lot of money 'cause those things are expensive. In my area {metro Atlanta}, I can name two stores within a couple of blocks of each other. One has them out on the shelves mixed in with regular stuff, the other one you have to ask nicely and say "imports", - -never- bootlegs, and even then you might not get anywhere. It depends on the paranoia level of the manager. Also, a little while ago here, there were some major bootleg busts. All the stores went overnight from stocking lots to suddenly not having any. If you knew who and how to ask, you might be able to get something; but for nearly six months, nothing. I don't know about copywrite laws in other countries, though. Evidentially there are some countries that have loopholes in their laws {ISTR that Luxembourg is one of 'em} that allow the pressing of these bootlegs {which is where the moniker "import" stems from}, but they are still illegal to sell in the US. Which doesn't mean I'm giving up my tape or CD collection. ;) /nad *************************************************************************** * Nadyne Mielke, CS majour, Southern Tech, Marietta, GA * * * * "I regret to say that we of the FBI are powerless to act in cases of * * oral-genital intimacy, unless it has in some way obstructed interstate * * commerce. Well, it's Clairol's Torrid Torch Crimson and another color-- one of the Beautiful Reds. I myself am a natural redhead, but with some blonde at the tips, and every so often I dye my hair a beautiful copper. It just makes me feel prettier. And the conditioner is so healthy! It's so shiny afterwards. Anyway, I went looking for the Torrid Torch Crimson and it's hideous. I've only seen one picture of Tori in this color, and it's kind of a purplish magenta. The beautiful color she used to use must be one of those Beautiful Reds, but the exact one? Not sure. Good luck! - -Jen ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Dec 1997 13:13:26 -0800 From: monolithicjuggernaut@juno.com (Mark W Biscomb) Subject: Re: tori's hair About whether or not Torch Crimson is still around, the answer is yes. I almost bought some about a month ago, but my hair is so fried right now from all the bleaching and dying I've done lately, it would probably fall out if I tried again! It was fun though, I bleached it twice with 40 volume peroxide, dyed it blue (it looked AWESOME) but then my parents decided to visit for parents weekend, so two weeks later I had to bleach the blue out twice and then dye it a dark red (which unfortunately ended up purple due to the remaining blue in my hair). Anyway... Tori gave out the following formula: 1 1/2 oz. Torch Crimson, 1/2 oz. Rosewood Brown, 2 oz. 40 volume peroxide. Both of those colors are currently available from Clairol at any Sally Beauty Supply store. I'm a licensed cosmetologist, so I can make the following comment about her choice in hair color... it was BRIGHT! The 40 peroxide is the strongest you can purchase. It comes in 5, 10, 20, 30, and 40. 20 would have been fine for Tori, but she wanted her color to have a brightness to it, and the 40 volume peroxide level stripped out her natural brown color, and allowed the maximum deposit of red. I'm not sure what the pros are using on her now in the salon... but in my opinion it is too orangey. I love red hair. *grin* Hope ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Dec 1997 07:06:46 -0800 From: rain Subject: for sale ok i offered this for sale earlier, got a bunch of great bids, and then got dumped at the last minute by every single person who claimed to send money or to buy it. so i am offering it once again- the single is the U.K. re-release of SILENT ALL THESE YEARS (for those who are interested, catalogue #A7433CD) it has the songs 1. silent all these years 2.upside down 3.me and a gun 4.thoughts the cover picture is the one with her in the orange shirt in the chair, and i think this reissue was released in '92 but it may be '91-the back of the cd gives both dates but i think the '91 is the date it was first issued (as me and a gun single) and the '92 is the reissue. and its in absolutely beautiful condition. email me if youre interested.only seriouse bids PLEASE im sick of this! thanks :) faerie@mbay.net ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~rain~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~rain~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Dec 1997 00:17:00 -0500 From: Mikewhy Subject: DentNews For December 15 A listing of *some* (not all) of the recent additions to my web site, A Dent In the Tori Amos Net Universe: or tori.by.net The biggest news right now involves an online pay-per-view charity event online and a possible song title for Tori's new album! The Dent gives you all the details on the First Ever Online Pay-Per-View Charity Event involving Tori. Tori's video catalog, 14 videos, will be made available online using software from RealNetworks. For a minimum contribution of $5, you will be granted access to these online videos for 2 weeks. The proceeds will benefit RAINN. You must make your contribution using a credit card, and the event begins December 18th. Full details at the Dent! I have also been told by a very reliable source that one of the songs that Tori recorded recently in England was a tune called "CRUEL". Rumor has it that it is in the running to be the first single...but there is no proof of that yet. I have added info on that and some other interesting new album tidbits at my site. Interested when the movie Great Expectations will be released in Australia and throughout Europe? I have tentative release dates for many countries, including Germany, France, and the U.K. Speaking of Great Expectations, it looks like Tori's vocals will be heard on at least 2 songs on the Great Expectations Score. (These are the wordless vocalizations we have heard about earlier.) The titles are "Finn" (which is likely the full version of "Finn (Intro)" that is on the soundtrack) and "Paradiso Perduto." I also report on the fact that the Take To The Sky UK Tori Fanzine #11 Coming Soon, hopefully with lots of good data and photos. The 1997 Kevin & Bean (DJs on radio station 106.7 KROQ in Los Angeles) Christmas CD was just released last Tuesday. It's called: "A Family Christmas (in your ass)" and it has Tori's version of "Little Drummer Boy" that appeared on Kevin & Bean's 1992 Christmas tape. I also direct you to a good web site that has mp3 sound clips, and another that has added some interesting new sound clips using streaming RealAudio. Ice skater Michelle Kwan was seen on the USA network last weekend skating to Winter. I keep missing this, and I am dying to see it. If anyone has Michelle on tape and can make me a copy, I would be in your debt and I could place a video clip of it on my site! Happy Holidays, Mikewhy PS...You can also still order the Tori Amos/RAINN lithograph from my entry page. A wonderful way to help RAINN and get a great collectible. C'mon, guys... don't tell me I'm alone in lip-synch land out here... :) I'm curious about people's "flub-ups" -- the lyrics you thought were lyrics, but weren't. I'll start off with mine... Every time I hear SATY, when she gets to the quiet line, "your eyes focus on my funny lip shape"... I always thought that she said "you eyes focus on my tawny red shape". For weeks I thought this (*blush*), and to this day, I still think of that line when hearing the song. Has this ever happened to anyone else?
