HELLO YOU WALKING EARS, How you all doing? Well that's great, everything is dandy here. Sure it is. I think you all agree. Anywho, I have this one big favor to ask anyone who would care to help an obsessed soul. I just acquired Precious Little Diamonds and Under the Covers by a lovely dubbing machine and I was wondering if anyone has the lyrics for: PRECIOUS LITTLE DIAMONDS: Losing my Religion (I know this is REM, but Tori kinda sings it out of order) Hungarian Wedding Song Baltimore Walking With You UNDER THE COVERS: Ain't No Sunshine Imagine Sentimental Journey Whole Lotta Love Famous Blue Raincoat Summertime Candle in the Wind Wrapped Around Your Finger With a Little Help From My Friends Landslide I'm on Fire I found the rest. But damnit I have aoHELL and that bastard is slow as a mother so I really will go crazy if I have to use it anymore I will go on a rampage and kill the Spice Girls (all right, all right don't get too happy). But if any of you actually have the lyrics on your puter and could kindly copy and paste if it does not eat up your time. If not, well that is just dandy. I just acquired so much Tori stuff from my lovely dubbing VCRs and stereo so I am already a happy camper. Well take care. Buh-bye. Lo-lee-ta: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of these steps daon the palate to tap, at three, on the teeth. Lo. Lee.Ta." Vladmir Nabakov, the first paragraph of Lolita How can you not love that? It's interesting the tie in here with the Me and a Gun questions of late. Vladmir Nabakov wrote a large set of controversial, yet beautiful literature. Yet, this particular piece, NOT his masterpiece by any means seems to get the most attention. Because of it's subject matter. Now, the difference here between Tori and Vlad is that Nabakov made it clear that this was a piece of fiction and he wasn't trying to make any statements. To him that was the most haneous crime an author could commit. Tori, however, is about transendence. The rape, in some form, did happen... But even if it didn't, the song was something she needed to release and in doing so she has helped countless people t many different levels of healing. Why question the means when the end is so noble and beautiful? And really, that is very reason most of us love her so much. I mean, you can love Tori for her music, and that's clearly understandable. But I would think that most here agree that we are Ears with Feet becuase of her. Because of the person that Myra Ellen Amos has become. She just happens to write amazing song and play the most brilliant piano imaginable. It's a fringe benefit really. And most of you probably think I'm kinda odd... and that I ramble incesantly, but honestly, I don't care. Let's stop questioning people when they're doing beautiful things... Well, it's interesting, I think. I don't believe that all of LE was recorded on a Bosey, cause there are some parts of it that the bass doesn't have that signature Bosey ring. but I don;t know for certain. Anyone? I know that the Montreux show back during the LE era was played on a Steinway ( the pic is in the Little Earthquakes song book). And the LE video is on a Yamaha (eeeww). I don't really think she wouldn't play another piano. But she doesn't have to. I mean if you can prefer Godiva and can afford Godiva why buy Nestle. Last I understood she owned two Boseys. The one they gave her for UtP and another she bought from a church in New York. lf I had a choice I would only play Baldwins, Steinways, Petrofs, or Boseys. Preferably the later, but they are as expensive as a house or two... The Bosendorfer 9'6" Imperial Grand, which is the piano that Tori plays has 9 extra keys in the bass and is the second biggest piano made (Bechstein made a 10' grand) takes 5 years to make, BY HAND, and costs $175,000 new. They factory only produces 500 pianos a year. Less than Steinway. Bosendorfer has a distinctive bass ring and the treble sounds like crystal. They are by far the best pianos made... Bechstein and Steinway are the only ones that come close and you can;t count on quality action from Steinway Hpope it's not to much info Jaysen, an aspiring pianist ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 30 Nov 1997 18:02:48 -0500 From: jlovoi@sps.edu (Space Dog) Subject: me and a gun Hi! I kinda skipped my digests while I was away on break, so forgive me if I'm beating a dead cat (or whatever the expression is). I was molested when I was young, but I don't consider myself raped. I can empathize with those who have never been "penetrated" during rape, but where can you draw the line between rape and not rape??? Is there even a line? I really feel for Tori and having learned about this "false rape" (notice I put it in quotes) has made me think twice--or even three times--about people in this situation. I can say it's very scary, probably one of the most violating, condescending, terrifying situations anyone could have. I hope you understand me. I'm kinda tired and can't really remember where I was going with this, but if anyone has had a similar experience or would like to comment, please feel free to do so. (i would have done this sooner, but i was occupied with work in the first half of this week and out of town for the second half.) the second item that mike and i listed in things we did not want on the list was: >Posts that do not directly pertain to either Tori or her work, i.e., no >debates about feminism, religion, rape, etc. please. We are not saying that >these topics should never be mentioned or discussed, since they obviously do >relate to Tori and her music, only that such discussion should be limited to >how these topics relate to Tori rather than general discussions of the issues. the reason we included this rule is because all too often threads about these topics degenerate into flamewars. it's perfectly acceptable to discuss, for instance, rape as it pertains to tori, but when the focus of the thread moves from tori to, say, what constitutes rape, the discussion has moved outside the bounds of this mailing list and is best taken to private mail or to another mailing list or newsgroup. that said, the dialogue, while outside the bounds of precious-things, was handled fairly well and i thank you all for keeping the tone relatively civil. however, i'll also thank everyone to keep things within the guidelines of the list in the future as well. if you need a refresher, browse or send a note to majordomo@smoe.org which says "info precious-things". woj precious-things good cop ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 30 Nov 1997 21:23:51 PST From: "Ray Bailey" Subject: Re: administrivia >that said, the dialogue, while outside the bounds of precious-things, was >handled fairly well and i thank you all for keeping the tone relatively >civil. however, i'll also thank everyone to keep things within the >guidelines of the list in the future as well. >woj >precious-things good cop Hmm... so we can't even discuss things like that? I didn't really think when I signed up that the guidelines were all THAT strict. I mean, wow, at least it was TOri-related... Btw, people were discussing Tori books earlier that were really cheap? Where do I find those again? I haven't seen them while shopping around, and I was just wondering what store again. Thanks!
