Ok...I know we have these rumors all the time, but I was just at the Atlanta Records show (where I bought some spiffy Tori stuff. Including 99X's Live X II which is kinda hard to find now (has a livee version of Crucify)) So, at the place where I bought this the guy says "she's finaaly getitng married" I didn't think he was talking to me so i said "what!?!?!?!?" And he said "Yep, to her boyfriend of a long time" Okay, so I thought she broke up with Eric and hadn't really dated anyone for an extended period of time. So, I asked the guy "How do you know?" He said that his best friend is her tour manager and he told him. So, how the hell do we confirm something like this?????? Wow.....later, Jenn ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 22 Nov 1997 15:26:49 +1300 From: anabug Subject: Re: Re: Song for Eric/My Lagan Love At 03:49 PM 11/22/97 -0500, you wrote: >>she composed it herself for Y Kant Tori Read and Other > Rarities >Why would she write it for a bootleg album if she hates the things? And, come on, the subject matter in Me and a Gun is far more > "realistic" than any Big Bird in Talula. Stretching is what art is all about. The song does affect lots of people attending the concerts -- listen to the sobs. Given that it does so convincingly (just look at the posts here in disbelief), I'd prefer to think that Tori fully empathizes with rape victims and not dwell on the technical facts surrounds the night that traumatized her. Whether she got to the spot she wrote MAAG through 90% personal experience and 10% imagination/inspiration or the other way around is immaterial. The song touches people and sensitizes others. Mike ps: My apology for the earlier post. I had this one composed and something got messed up. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 22 Nov 1997 14:00:10 -0800 From: Shirley Ye Subject: Prom date I went to a music store a couple of months ago, and I was looking at the store copy of "Tori Stories" Anyway, this guy comes walking in, sees me fawning over the box, and asks me "Is that Tori Amos?" We're both great admirers of Tori Amos, and other artists. Anyway, we were having a really good discussion about music and getting to know the artist's work. And, now I'd like to relate our conversation to you guys. I think that the only way to really get into an artist is to become imersed in her work for an extended period of time... listen to nothing but that special CD for hours on end, because only that way can you become really familiar with the artist's work. That's what I've been doing with Tori. People say that her music get progressively less accessible with each album. Admittedly, the tunes are probably less "catchy" on Under the Pink than let's say Little Earthquakes, and Boys for Pele is judged by many as an indulgent record. Personally, though, Boys for Pele is probably my favorite, simply judging by how many hours it's spent in my CD player, and the music is just so multi-layered. I feel that by listening to her music for hours on end, I've become so very familiar with her music and her thoughts, so it's like... everything she composes, though other people not familiar with Tori might think it unaccessible, is totally accessible to me. Because, I have a feeling, that if I had only heard "In the Springtime of His Voodoo" for example just once on the radio, I might not think much of it at all... but after listening to it repeadtedly, and becoming familiar with the artist and her intelligence, I am able to perceive the beauty and many meanings - thus, I find inspiration from it. Of course, no matter how many times I heard Alanis Morissette or some othe such artist (sorry to all of you who like her) I could never bring myself to love her and find inspiration from her music. The artist must be intelligent, thought provoking, and skilled... I guess the gist of it is that in order to know anything really well is to become very involved in it - obsessed, in other words. It applies to a lot of other things besides listening to Tori's music, of course. And, this is just how I perceive things. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 22 Nov 1997 21:53:37 -0500 (EST) From: Richard Handal Subject: Re: Tori is getting married???????????
