She was just lucky and got away. I have always been under the impression, though, that she was actually raped. Are you quite sure that she wasn't? Thanks, my two cents =) Ray ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 Nov 1997 23:04:08 -0800 From: Shirley Ye Subject: Song for Eric/My Lagan Love I just got the EMI 100th Anniversary reissue of Kate Bush's Hounds of Love. There are some bonus tracks tacked on to it, and one of them is called "My Lagan Love." It's sung acoustic, and it sounds eerily similar to Tori's "Song for Eric." The lyrics are totally different, but the melodies sound like siblings. I looked up the melody to "My Lagan Love" and it turns out that the melody is traditional. So, what I'm wondering is this: did Tori compose the melody for Song for Eric, or is it taken from tradition? I remember Song For Eric being in her B-sides music book, but I'm not sure... Thanks :) Toodles, Shirl ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 22 Nov 1997 07:49:48 -0800 From: Chris Semon Subject: Me and A Gun > < not officially "raped," and it was not a gun that the guy had. >> Interesting. Does anyone by any chance have a copy of the 20/20 interview she did two years ago? (I believe it was August 1995) She dicussed this issue then and I'd be curious as to re-read her words in light of this new information. I don't remember much more then the interviewer asking her how come she didn't prosecute and Tori responding by saying something along the lines of "Come on...I was dressed sexy, singing in a bar...no one would believe it" or something to that effect. Whether or not actual penetration took place, the entire experience at very least offers the threat of mental and physical abuse as well as rape, and I'm sure it was a terrifying situation to endure. And thinking through the lyrics of "Me and A Gun", the song really deals more with survival in a harrowing situation and men's presumption over the use of women rather then any actual mention of a "physical" rape. But I would be most interested in re-reading the transcript to digest that information in a new light. Hey everybody, I'm wondering if anyone could help me find a Vertigo mailing list? or maybe a Neil Gaiman or Sandman one? thanks. Also, you should pick up the new Neil Gaiman's Stardust from your comic shop. Number One came out last nonth and number two will be out this week. Dioes anyone out there have the Neil book of short stories "Angels and Visitations"? Is it good? Please tell me... Let me just tell you all it was a huge success! Everyone loved the song, danced to it, and were much impressed with my taste in music... and that is now "our song"... (I hate that phrase, but I guess that's what it is)... It was a beautiful night... And now there are about 50 more Tori fans running around out there, thanks to me! :) sharing... sorry... :) @}-->-->--- ChibiRini Fairy Queen *~^~^~Tania~^~^~* Froggie Playing a Song} ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~} "...Threads that are Golden { %&%&%&~Tau Beta Sigma/Pi Delta Pi~%&%&%&} don't break easily..." {-----------------------------------------} "IF you really want a { hidden in a dark alley, on a midsummer } challenge, just deal with { night, there appeared a glowing, } yourself." { unearthly light... then She appeared... } ~Tori Amos, {~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~} {"A girl is a verb, a whirl of color..." } 'Horses' / Quote { --Frente', "Girl" } ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~} tarr1658@uriacc.uri.edu } Me: http://www.ici.net/cust_pages/arruda/tania/chibirini.html } ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~} ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 22 Nov 1997 13:04:21 -0600 From: Mystyglass@webtv.net (Cynthia Glasson) Subject: Prof. Widow makes my head explode..film at 11 & TORI NUDE? (no film) Hey folks...let's really get confused together, OK? Iiss funn...I"ve done it before... Actually,if you guys remember my previous post about this song you'll remember that I stated in the beginning of it that it was a very complex puzzle...well, I wasn't kidding...and the more theories I see fly by the more confused I get. And before I get into to mental masterbation mode again let me just say that this is what makes Tori's lyrics so brilliant and complex...is that they simply CANNOT be taken for granted on one level. They probably start off being about one person or thing or event and morph into so many other levels of symbolism AS she writes them...I don't think it's fair to say that any of her songs are about any ONE thing...there are too many reference post it notes (as I think another listee said recently) and adendums..well, you get my point. But this is why I think she responded to the question "Is PW about Courtney Love?" "Not EVERYTHING is about Courtney Love!" meaning to me that on some levels it is...but on other levels it's become metaphoric for other things...and this is where the whole Egyptian bit comes in, I think these are very valid theories as well. Now here's something that really struck me about Ken Tough's last post concerning this song... "Isis impregnated herself from the corpse and subsequently gave birth in secrecy at Khemmis in the Nile delta and hid the child from Seth in the papyrus swamps" When I heard this, an image was conjured up almost immediately of the cover of BFP, and how much of the story from Little Amsterdam on took place in the swamps of Louisiana....the cover featured a woman with a gun sitting on an old rickety porch, as if to be protecting something (possibly her child, Horus, from Seth)....and then, of course, there's the pig picture, possibly representing the child. There's a lot of other theories pertaining to this Egyptian legend that in my mind hold water but I just can't go into it right now...I think my brain is retaining water, and the dam is about to break if you know what I mean.... Also I'd like to comment on that "TORI NUDE" post that came along in the past couple of days...I'd like to say to that person who posted it that there's really nothing to worry about...I mean, you know those aren't real right? In fact, I had a friend e-mail me something very interesting on that a couple of months ago. It concerned an internet detective and how he exposed these phony pictures for what they really are...phony. In fact, he e-mailed me an example featuring our own Tori, and it was really kind of funny and scary at the same time...because what they did is took a picture of her head and very carefully pasted it on the body of a lookalike model...in this case the model was Asian, so they just had to match up her skin tone to the skin tone of the picture of her head which was hilariously enough off the back cover of UTP!!!! I couldn't help it, I had to laugh, since I knew exactly where that picture came from (and I didn't think it was from the "other" shoot that we didn't hear about! ;) ) They doctored up the skin tone and the patchwork so it was seemless...and did look pretty damn real which was the scary part, because if you're NOT a Tori fan and just a pervert searching for nude celebrities then you're probably not gonna realize that it is a phony. I had some idiot from another list try to get me all pissed off by saying that he saw one of these pictures of my favorite artist NUDE on one of these pages, and I just laughed in his face and told him that it was probably a phony....I think if Tori had really done any nude modeling somewhere in her career that she would have just come out and admitted it by now...for I don't think any of her fans would be apt to hold it against her...I'd say we're a pretty cool, open-minded bunch from what I've seen. ;) And by the way, I'd like to thank Ken Tough for posting all that info, that was really very illuminating to me and indeed cast a new light on some of the songs on the album! Thanks! ;) Well, time to go all Scanners on ya now...RUN FOR COVER!!! Cynthia ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V2 #330 *************************************
