(if you have been to one in the last 8 months, they added a huge book section!) anyway, they have decided to get rid of them as fast as possible by marking the prices down.. WAY down! just in time for the holidays (this is a good way to get rid of the unsightly book section.. quickly) so, the books all now have a price of under $9!!! this includes "all these years" (1st and 2nd editions) & "images and insights". the collectables book never made it to blockbuster, so bother looking for it. the bootleg book "cornflake girl" is in the computer system, but i have never seen it at any store, but if you find it, it will be $2!!!. so, start shopping blockbuster music now if you are missing any of these 4 books! - -rusty ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ check out my web page! Or, if it isn't a hoax, it certainly wasn't very well planned out. First of all, there is no expiration date. Do you honestly think that that student council is going to continue giving 5 cents to this fund for the next 20 years? {And if you don't think that this could happen with the Internet, look at the Craig Shergold greeting/business card story, or the Neiman Marcus story, or even the Good Times thing.} Secondly, there is no mechanism for getting it back to the student council. It just says "forward to everyone you know", it never ever says "every tenth person send this back to me so I can give it to my student council". How is the student council going to pay up {assuming this is real} if they never get it back? Thirdly, sending to a mailing list is just a bad idea. I'm not going to argue the "it has nothing to do with Tori", 'cause you already know that. However, it's a bad idea 'cause you don't know if it is legit. It's generally a bad idea to forward a chain letter on to a mailing list anyway {one list I was on booted you off, no questions asked, if you sent one, no matter where you got it from or what the intent behind it was}. You could've sent it on to a few select friends, you could've posted a short blurb here saying "I got this chain letter about XXX, if you want a copy, email me and I'll forward it on" -- but hopefully you would do this - -after- checking to see if it's valid. Please, folks. Before you send out something like this, do some research into it. That's a bloody huge thing to dump into someone's mailbox, and if it's not true, it's a complete waste of space [1]. And while I realise that you're well-meaning in all of this, if it's not true, you're just helping to continue to propagate this stupid thing. Before sending anything like this out, -check the validity of it-. Don't email the original sender, 'cause if they were joking, they'll just lie to you and say that it's legit. Do a little websearch on their domain and see if you can't contact someone on their student council. If the student council hasn't heard of it, you know it's fake [2]. If they - -have- heard of it, then contact the original sender to see how the hell he plans to address the two concerns I brought up above. Anyway, I'll get off my "I'm so bloody sick of chain letters that are fake" soapbox now. /nad {who is, one day, gonna get thwapped by the listmeisters for continually piping up like this} [1] If anyone wonders why I'm complaining, it's 'cause my sysadmin tracked me down this morning to tell me -face to face- that my mailbox was overflowing because of the sheer size of this message. The wonders of being on a university server! [a] [2] And if this -is- a hoax, the people who started it were sick individuals. [a] I wonder if this message I'm sending now will overflow my mailbox, it's certainly long enough. >:> *************************************************************************** * Nadyne Mielke, CS majour, Southern Tech, Marietta, GA * * * * "I regret to say that we of the FBI are powerless to act in cases of * * oral-genital intimacy, unless it has in some way obstructed interstate * * commerce. I'm just odd like that. I'm a tori-lover. My brother first got me to listen to her back in '93 when he saw her at Sheffield uni, when i was just ickle ('14 yrs old). I was hooked, although i realise now how what she means to me has evolved-i certainly understand what she's saying (i hope) more than i used to. But what has always attracted me is the shear depth of her meaning, and what it's always meant to me. My friends used to be confused by what i saw in her, saying she was "middle-of-the-road" compared to whatever else i liked. But in terms of what she has to say ME Amos has never been middle of the road. I have yet to find an artist who truly comments on the norm and challenges it to the depth she can. And i kind of hope i never do..... For those who care, i'm 18, at uni (Biomedical Sciences)and a long way from home right now. And maybe on the surface, or even in her subconscious, she doesn't feel negatively about her father at all. However, Tori goes deeper than the subconscious, she goes to the unconscious, which is where the purest feelings dwell, and also where the Shadow has a lot more influence and prominence. So maybe in her Shadow side, which is everything you consciously oppose, she really does have some anger towards her father for making her play in clubs and always pushing her so hard at a young age. No. As she was not touring with a band last year, there's no way she *could* have performed a version much like the one on the album. It took her a while of being on tour before she got a version together of any kind which would work on a musical and logistical level--that is to say, with the instruments she had at hand on the road with her. If she simply played the harpsichord part of Widow with no backing band, it would have sounded bizarre and non-musical. That was always a big consideration for her to be able to do requests. She only had ten days of rehearsal before the tour last year, and finding enough time to get together with Bosey long enough to be able to actually (gasp) work on music was not always easy, I'm sure. I was impressed at how *many* songs she kept adding to her repertoire as the tour progressed. I myself am a 16 year-old guy from Colombia (that's in South America). I have turned 2 friends into EwF, and even though their love for Tori isn't as passionate as mine is, they show total support for Tori's work. I also know of a few other EwF in my country but they live in other cities. Even though as you see there are some EwF down here, I still think it's not enough. This really gets me thinking, it's really a pity how artists *seem* not to care about their fan base that lives in Central and especially in South America; as I accurately recall, the last BIG (not so big if u ask me) groups to give concerts here were: Guns 'n' Roses (1991), Tears For Fears (1995), Bon Jovi (1995) and Def Leppard (1996). And that was only a single concert in Bogot=E1 (the capital). I think Michael Jackson and U2 are= coming soon, but I don't really see that happening because such big acts always end up being cancelled for some reason. I have never ever asisted to any kind of concert. Yes, i am a sad person. ;( . I would have a heart atack if we had a Lilith Fair kinda concert here. Music marketing here is a disaster too. First of all, companies do not release singles here whatsoever, no matter how big the artist is. If you want the song, you gotta buy the album. And also, of all those loads of albums released worldwide, only those that get HEAVY (and i mean heavy) airplay are released, and maybe the albums of comercially important artists like MJ,Madonna or Mariah Carey are released here too. No Tori albums are released here, no Fiona Apple, no Sarah Mclachlan, practically almost anything. And guess what? those CDs that are lucky enough to be released here, suffer of such a poor (and i mean poor) printing quality, that you almost lose your enthusiasm when you are buying them. Not only that, but prices are much higher than in the US or anywhere. A CD costs $21 here, and they're never on sale. There aren't places to buy posters, music books or any kind of merchandise the companies produce elsewhere. Also, no bootlegs, no picture disks, no promos, no interview disks, no 12", 3" or 5" singles. If you want anything like that you HAVE to import it. Period. I would die if Tori came here on tour, but I really don't think that's happening. why you ask? well, if your company doesn't promote you, people will not get to know your music and your tour will be a disaster. Please have in mind that i'm talking from my experience in my country, COLOMBIA, not South America in general. I know things in Argentina, Chile are *slightly* different. And i think Brazil is a whole different affair. At least more bands tour those countries. Still, it's not enough if u want my opinion. Oh well, why did I end up talking about this anyway?? LOL... About the race thing: I don't really think Tori pays attention to this. music it's not about races anyway. If you like someone's music, you like it, that's it. Doesn't matter whether you're black, white, blonde, latin, asian, caucasian, african or whatever. Just in case you were wondering, i'm white, blonde and have brown eyes. Kind of a mixture, isn't it? ;) Finally, i'm sure there would be a lot of more EwFs if Tori's music was exposed more here. But also, things would end up being very much like they are in the states or anywhere in the world anyway. Mainstream music would dominate most of the people, and for example, Tori's music would still be reserved for a relatively small group. Does it sound like I'm contradicting myself? Well, I'm really not. I would say a 2.5% of the people here know who Tori Amos is. Sad, sad thing.... Sure, but she didn't. :-) Seriously, she did God and Cornflake Girl with backing tracks in 1994, and I doubt she was satisfied with the overall effect of it. I know that hearing tapes from back then, that it sounds funny to *me*. It sounds like she's along for the ride rather than controlling the situation. (With Talula, she hit the button to start the track playing behind her with her left foot under the harpsichord, which helped her feel a *bit* more in control, I'm sure. Although the damn thing didn't work three of the first twelve times I saw Talula attempted last year. That was funny all by itself, though.) Caton being on tour last year gave her much-increased flexibility with arrangements, which was wonderful. I'm sure she didn't want to more backing tracks than she really had to, and doing it for Talula was required if she was gonna do a Tornado sort of version of it, which she clearly wanted to do. Doing Widow live was not as important to her, apparently. My main concern for the next tour is that if she really does have an entire band with her on the road, that she'll end up being somewhat locked into *band* arrangements, instead of being locked into *solo* arrangements. I thought having Caton on the tour was a wonderful and sensible compromise. But, we'll all see what happens.
