It was nice to be able to read an interview from her since there's usually not a lot of coverage of her in RS. One thing I found interesting is that she said she likes to listen to Fiona Apple. Apparently not Jewel, though...there was a semi-cutting remark that she made about her..... Anyway, it was a good issue. :) Chris Semon wombats@earthlink.net ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Oct 1997 20:50:45 GMT From: alicia Subject: Siren Hi to Everybody, I know I might be a bit over-obsessed with this song, but I wondered if anybody knew if "Siren" will be the main song in the "great expectations" soundtrack album? I don't post too frequently but here comes a fairly long one but you ay think its worth it. I thought it was time I shared with you the 2 times I met Tori. Both times were when she played at the Guildhall in Portsmouth (UK) where I live... The first time was on Thursday April 21, 1994, when Tori was promoting LE. The concert itself can only be described as f****** outstanding, but that's another post. I went to the back door after the show clutching my LE CD in one hand and camera in the other. When Tori came out she spoke to everyone in turn (there was only about 10 people there - wouldn't be that little now!), thanking them for coming to see the show. A couple of people were a bit tongue tied and just sort of babbled but Tori was very patient and let the get a grip. When she got to me she asked if I like the show and I told her it was the best I had ever seen. I managed to say it without sounding to sickly and she seemed genually pleased I liked it. I asked her to sign my CD sleeve and offered it sheepishly. She turned to a crew-type/roadie/record-label-person and asked for a pen, even though I had offered mine. She signed on the sleeve: To Spongey Peace and much love Tori. xx When she handed the sleeve back to me I asked her if she'd allow me to take a photo and she said I could so I did. I decided to push my luck and asked if I could let my friend take one of me and her together. Tori grinned and said it would be fine. After the photo, I thanked Tori and she gave me a hug (she gave each person a hug after talking to them!) and moved to the last few people, spoke with them. She spent about 25 minutes with us outside before climbing into a Range Rover and being driven off, waving to us as she left. Needless to say, the LE sleeve is now framed and on my wall. The second time I saw Tori was on Thursday March 13, 1996. This time I took a camera with a huge lens into the concert. When I was stopped, I flashed the stewards my works ID card (I worked for the local newspaper) and babbled that I was talking pictures for the following days write-up, and they believed me! I sat 10 rows from the front but with my 600mm lens I was effectively about 3 feet away. I'd loaded up with specialist low-light film so I could quite happily snap away without flash and the shows lighting would be enough for decent pics. I went through 14 films (36 pics each - 'acquired' from work - a perk!) during the concert. I went again to the stage door after the show, clutching UtP and two enlarged pictures of Tori I took at the show in '94 and waited for her to come out. Eventually some dodgy-looking record exec.-type guy, with a sad blonde ponytail, came out and said that Tori would come out and say hi but only if we all lined up (like we we still at school!). Everyone shuffled into a line and this guy said if we'd move he'd take Tori straight to her car. When she came out she worked her way along the line, signing things and posing for pictures. She signed my UtP sleeve and the two photos and asked me where I got them from. I told her I took them at the previous concert. Tori said they were good pictures and showed them to one of her loitering aides before signing them. On the UtP sleeve she wrote: To Spongey Love and luck Tori xxxx On the concert photo: To Spongey Live your dreams! Love Tori xx On the photo of Tori and me: Spongey... Peace Love Tori xxx As Tori got halfway down the queue, people started to move in and the record guy shouted for everyone to get back, but Tori turned to him and said sternly 'Leave them alone'. She obviously cares more about her fans than the record company guys! She finished off signing things for people, I got a few more photos and she thanked everyone for coming and for waiting, as it was bloody cold, and got in to a car and was driven off, waving to us as she went. I'd just like to say, I agree with what Richard Handal once said about how Tori keeps eye contact with you as she talks to you and you speak to her - she really showed she took notice of what was being said to her. I just can't wait for the next tour - I've got more photos for her to sign! - -- _______________________________ _______________________ ___ / _____/ ___ / ___ / | / / _______/ ____/ / / / / /____/ /__/ / / / / /| |/ / / _____/ /_ / /__/ / /____ / ______/ / / / / | / / /_ / __/ /__ ___/ _____/ / / / /__/ / / | / /___/ / /___ / / /_______/__/ /________/__/ |___/_________/______/ /__/ spongey@dial.pipex.com spongey@elevate.demon.co.uk Fidonet: 2:251/18.8 ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Oct 1997 16:32:57 -0600 From: "Mr.Zebraa" Subject: Re: Siren I was thinking about reading the book, >has anybody read it and can tell me if it's worth reading (or if it's too >hard to read, etc.)? Forgive the forwardness, but it's often a bragging right between guys as to how much a girl came during sex. Much like the how many times a guy can perform or how last for how long. Hey, I see the logic in that too! (pertaining to the apple green ice cream) About the line from 'Precious Things'... : I've always interpreted it that Tori is telling them that they aren't anything special because they can make her come. Yeah, like the "who died and left you king" kind of thing in a sense. Like it's no big deal to be able to make her come. It could also mean that she feels that the male ego is just too big and needs to be checked (in matters pertaining to making women come I suppose).
