Boy, that *would* be quite the artifact. If only for her performance of the Fleetwood Mac/Christine McVie song Songbird, I'd *love* to be able to hear that show. According to reports, she said when she introduced it that night that she hadn't performed it in about 15 years. I feel privileged to have seen her perform Songbird in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on August 4 last year. It was achingly beautiful. She didn't perform Songbird for around 15 years, and then last year she performed it only twice--both times in Tennessee. Some of us have been wondering *why*? Was someone special in the audience both of those nights? Was it something in the Tennessee earth itself that inspired her to perform Songbird at each of those shows? Sheer coincidence? I suspect we'll never know. These are the kinds of questions one can run endlessly around in one's head. Why was it that she never performed Not the Red Baron last year after the Eugene, Oregon show of July 20, 1996? Was that something she decided she wasn't comfortable in doing as of several days after the July 17 TWA Flight 800 tragedy last year? I thought for the longest time that something possibly had happened to the film of the World War I era biplanes which was always projected onto the screen behind her when she performed Baron. (In Portland, Oregon on July 21 *none* of the films were working.) But that biplane film showed up on the screen at the Concert for RAINN during another song in January of this year. She performed Baron 81 times from April 9 and July 20 and then stopped cold. Why? It's a riddle to me. What an enigma that woman is. Never ceases to amaze me. Astonishing. Be seeing you, Richard Handal, H.G. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 7 Sep 1997 11:28:54 -0400 From: "w4barron" Subject: thanks guys Well, first I would like to thank Staci, Erin, and Angie for not biting my head off like that Jennifer person did. I never formally introduced myself to the list so here it goes: My name is Jessica Barron and I'm 14 years old. I just moved to Florida from California. The reason why I'm soo depressed is that I just started high school, don't know anyone, miss my friends, old house, etc. I discovered Tori around Christmas time last year. "Winter" was the song that did it for me. I was watching this ice skating show and Michelle Kwan choreographed this really great number to the song. I wish I discovered her sooner because it's sooo hard to get all her singles and other rare stuff. Well, enough of my blabbing! Bye! "Look I'm standing naked before you..." I bet you are right...Tori does seem like she has a natural wave that changes from time to time. Many of my friends are like that somedays... Like you said the studio type pics will always have her hair looking perfect a stylist knows just how to work with anykind of hair to make it look picture perfect. My name is Ray. I'm new to the list (just like Jessica) and I'm 16 years old. I just moved from Virginia to Pennsylvania. The transition has been really hard, being a senior in a new high school and all, but I'm doing great so far thanks to wonderful artists like Tori who give me great music to relate to. *smile* I first discovered Tori from a friend who had the "Little Earthquakes" CD... I've been listening to her for about 3 years now, ever since I heard the CD. The first song that I fell in love with was "Crucify", and after that, "Little Earthquakes." I don't know if anyone feels the same way I do, but I think the first CD was the very best... somebody tell me what you think about that. (BTW, this is one of the first mailing lists I've ever been on) So Jessica, I know how ya feel hon, and it does suck, but you'll be okay. Just keep looking forward to Tori's next release! - -Ray "I believe in peace... The lines "When you gonna love you as much as I do" and "'cause things are gonna change, so fast. I tell you that I'll always want you near, you say that things change, my dear" give the feelings i have had, and felt from my father a perfect expression. This song has helped me through many a desperate night, although i'll sometimes be too emotional to listen to it. . . This is one of my first posts, so bear with me. Although I love all her albums and they are each special in their own way, UTP is my favorite. I like how it's about women betraying women. I can totally relate with what it stands for. And Pretty Good Year was the first Tori song I ever heard and I fell in love with it right there. That song is very touching. Having been through some hard times myself, the line "when you gonna love you as much as I do..." is very meaningful and symbolic of my life. Not to mention, the song is very well written, and very pretty with the soft piano and Tori's soothing voice, sailing over a sea of crystal words created in her own head. Rae>>> Life will pull some hard ones on you... my whole view point on this can be expressed by simply listening to "You Learn" and "Ironic", both by Alanis (as if ya didn't know).
