In 1996, when Tori did Hey Jupiter on organ, it was very similar, though slightly different than the way she ended Purple Rain (also on organ). She did Purpls Rain a LOT on the last tour... Anyway, that she borrowed from the song is obvious. Tori has said that Marianne was recorded and written as you hear it. Of course the strings were added later. :p She always records the piano and vocals first, then adds the other stuff. I'm watching the Track & Field World Championships coverage on NBC, and they're doing a little bio thingie on US sprinter Marion Jones, with the opening instrumental bit of CALS in the background! Made me prick up my ears, that did... Just had to post that, I know some folks here will be intensely interested. :) +==========================================================================+ | Meredith Tarr meth@smoe.org | | Boonton, NJ USA http://www.smoe.org/~meth | +==========================================================================+ | "Marmots will stick to you in Delaware." | | - The Surrealist Compliment Generator | +==========================================================================+ ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 10 Aug 1997 13:23:30 -0400 From: meredith Subject: Re: Hey Jupiter/Purple Rain Hi! leah inquired: >speaking of prince, has anyone heard of kristeen young. she's a st. >louis musician and her promoters have tried to compare her to tori by >saying she like "tori on acid" but she's not (of course). She's nothing like Tori -- there's no basis of comparison whatsoever, outside of the fact that she's a woman and plays the piano. The only valid comparison I can think of is to compare Kristeen Young to someone even more obscure than she is (ie. Emily Bezar's evil twin), but that doesn't help much either. >anyway....the point is that the >only music she listens to is prince. it's soo weird. she doesn't listen >to the radio or *anything*...just prince. and her style is nothing like his. How bizarre. Can't say it really surprises me, though I am surprised that I can't hear one ounce of Skippy (dontcha know The Bozon Formerly Known As Someone Who Thinks He Is An Artist can sue you for invoking his name in public? ;>) in her own work. She is a truly Different individual. +==========================================================================+ | Meredith Tarr meth@smoe.org | | Boonton, NJ USA http://www.smoe.org/~meth | +==========================================================================+ | "Marmots will stick to you in Delaware." | | - The Surrealist Compliment Generator | +==========================================================================+ ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 10 Aug 1997 17:05:18 -0500 From: John Wolfe Subject: Rainy Day Records Do we know if Rainy Day Records still exisits? They are currently in the process of moving from Atlanta to Florida, so it's been real hectic. Currently, their website and e-mail are down, and probably will be until the move is complete and their more settled it. However, their number still works and will remain the same.
