Has anyone ever noticed the similarity between Tori's version of "Purple Rain" and her "Hey Jupiter?" I hear a definite similarity/influence, esp. during the high vocals. Maybe you have no idea what I'm talking about, but, hey, at least I do. :) Also, Tori has always stated in interviews that "Marianne" was basically written as you hear it on the album.. but, if I'm not mistaken there are strings going along with her piano playing? Oh, *BAM* the thought just hit me that maybe they recorded the strings later on. :) I love pointless posts :) _____________________________ John C. Maybe you have no idea what I'm talking > about, but, hey, at least I do. :) yes, i definately have! i'm a d.j. and i even played 'purple rain' and 'hey jupiter' back to back just to prove it to myself and it's definately there!! i'm glad someone else noticed. it's weird to me that she'd write something so similar to such a popular song. and i've even heard her play 'purple rain' at a show! i wonder how much of a fan she is of prince..... speaking of prince, has anyone heard of kristeen young. she's a st. louis musician and her promoters have tried to compare her to tori by saying she like "tori on acid" but she's not (of course). but she's a really good musician anyway and i really have grown to love her music and style. if you can check our her album 'meet ms. young and her all boy band'(or go to a show) definately do it! anyway....the point is that the only music she listens to is prince. it's soo weird. she doesn't listen to the radio or *anything*...just prince. and her style is nothing like his. thanks for letting me ramble! leah raisin girl ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ birthname: leah ellis business grrrl & dj 573.341.9859 !y! kmnr 89.7 fm lellis@umr.edu hear me: 6pm-9pm thursdays univ.of missouri- rolla talk to me: 573.341.4272 see me: www.umr.edu/~lellis ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "boys are cute, but food is cuter." --tori amos ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 9 Aug 1997 12:36:58 -0700 (PDT) From: cornflakegirl Subject: Re: Hey Jupiter/Purple Rain >yes, i definately have! i'm a d.j. and i even played 'purple rain' and 'hey >jupiter' back to back just to prove it to myself and it's definately >there!! i'm glad someone else noticed. it's weird to me that she'd >write something so similar to such a popular song. and i've even heard >her play 'purple rain' at a show! i wonder how much of a fan she is of >prince..... Can anyone tell me where I can find it? The twilight mix of "PtDO" is only available on the very limited edition promo-type album called the RAINN Retrospective CD. As you can imagine, it's hard to come by and very expensive if you do come by it. - -Casey ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 09 Aug 1997 16:55:05 -0500 From: Doug Hitzel Subject: Re: Hey Jupiter/Purple Rain I have to tell you, for Hey Jupiter (the song of Tori that I LOVE), the Dakota Version is my favorite. It is SO much sadder!! There is so much more pain in her voice. And does anyone notice in the Dakota version she says "Guess I thought, I could never feel the PAIN i'm feelin" I've listened to it very closesly several times and that is what she says unlike the original when she says "the things I'm feelin". And when all singing stops, the piano meledy she plays and the harmonium go to create such a beautiful meledy!!! I love it. I don't play it, but my best friend does, but she can't play by ear so she agreed to play for me if I get the music written down. Oh, and it would have to be an international store or a mail order type store, since you can't find that sort of thing here in Chile (kind of isolated, I have trouble getting tori's singles and EP's) And could somebody tell me why is it so bad to buy "Some more for Pele"? I bought it, and later I found out it was a "counterfeit". What are "counterfeits"? And who makes them? Thanks, - -alicia ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V2 #216 *************************************
