Hmm. I actually did something like this with Caton. I don't think I mentioned that to you, Jason. I don't tell you everything, though. ;-) I'll have to get a bit more organized about all that than I am now. Just what I need--another project. (I just got in from work after a 15-hour night.) I have been meaning to start writing all those down in one place. And I have this weird idea that I may one day be in a position to ask Tori about all those things myself, but I'm probably dreaming. While I'm at it, though, here's one. I never heard this discussed before. On the DDI tour she would often throw the main theme from the 1973 film The Exorcist into Father Lucifer. There's an obvious pun involved--a priest (Father) performed an exorcism of the devil (Lucifer) as a central part of the plot to the film. First off, I think it's a hilarious pun, and Tori's a stone cold riot when one might least expect it from her; but I was wondering if there was a deeper meaning or reference for her to have done that. Does anyone have any thoughts about that? This whole thing is always like walking a tightrope. One can easily overly interpret things Tori does, putting too much meaning on all sorts of stuff. Yet, sometimes there really *are* multiple reasons, references, and layers to what she's doing. She doesn't even always know all of them herself. This is one reason I say that her music deserves serious study. Anyhow, all that only serves to make her more fascinating. Jason, I *was* going to write you. But now I think I'll go to sleep instead. :-) Be seeing you, Richard Handal, H.G. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 31 Jul 1997 10:25:03 -0400 (EDT) From: HereNmyHed@aol.com Subject: Re: this pic... I found a page that is under construction concerning the Igloo Record label that was founded by Toir and Arthur Spivak, and then it went on to talk about the band "Pet", whose self-titled album was executively produced by Tori herself. Does anyone out there have any other info on Igloo records and/or Pet and has anyone heard any of Pet's music? I want to make an informed decision before maybe purchasing the CD, and who better to trust than my fellow EWF's? Thanx in advance! Sorry, raven, > i've got you beat. . . ;-) I have a friend whose birthday is, I believe, on the same day as Tori's, and another whose birthday is exactly 101 days before that of Tori. Tori's birthday is: Two days after my mother's and my brother's, six days before my best friend's, 192 days after mine (that being the sum of two powers of two), 142 days after my father's (the sum of 100 (a prime number which is the sum of two other prime numbers) and 42 (the Ultimate Answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything)), 70 days after my sister's (the product of the first four prime numbers, except 3, which is the number of months (June, July, August) involved), and 4 days before that of one of the people who got me interested in Tori (my ex-girlfriend's friend). I leave for college on Tori's birthday, although I don't start classes until 5 days later. Tori's birthday is also on the 234th day of the year, and (this year) the 10095th or 10096th day of the Unix epoch (the epoch began on midnight, 1 Jan 1970, GMT; does anyone know at what time she was born?). She was born on the -2324th or -2323rd day of the epoch (I hope I got those leap year calculations correct). If I calculated correctly, she turns 12500 days old on 9 October. She turns 13000 days old on 26 March, 1999. She turns 15000 days old on 14 November, 2004. - -- - -Neil Moore http://www.sfhs.floyd.k12.ky.us/~amethyst/ (finger amethyst@valjean.sfhs.floyd.k12.ky.us for my Geek Code) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 31 Jul 1997 18:35:37 EDT From: sylvia4@juno.com (Dream Shelf) Subject: Out of Body Experience ... or, the "remix" of PT, by Rabbit-in-the-Moon, is on a *new* compilation cd called Urbal Beats. if you like "techno" stuff, it's a really good compilation! (sorry, french major has to use the original french title.) i've never managed to see tori live, but from the recordings i've heard, i can see where she goes. stravinsky, for the time, especially that piece, was considered revolutionary, he was on the precipice of modern music; that crowd really did riot, and i don't think it was all b/c of their digust for the piece (though the french really are picky.) :-) it's a rousing, primal piece, and i feel much the same way w/ lot's tori's stuff, like "precious things" or the opening for "blood roses", or "waitress": just this explosion of barely bridled "*energy*". i think, often tori is pretty revolutionary with her music, and certainly is on the musical precipice of music today. also, someone mentioned that one of tori's tunes sounds a lot like a led zeppelin tune (sorry i forget the exact titles.) this isn't too surprising at all. i read or heard somewhere that jimmy page was one of tori's biggest influences. she often approaches playing the piano as he would playing a guitar. i think it's a pretty damn cool way to play piano if you ask me. my 2 cents... noah mclaughlin: llmclaug@monumental.com narkim@hotmail.com "will we burn in heaven like we do down here?" - - sarah mclachlan ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V2 #207 *************************************
