Hi, I send a couple mails about the soon coming Tori Amos event in Aachen already. (See the press release in the end again if you don't know what I'm talking about). Maybe we have the chance to web-cast this concert using audioactive-technology. Everybody in the world with an internetaccount and a simple soundcard could join this concert and the Toriphile-meeting. Of cause this means additional work for us so we want to make shure that some Toriphile in the world would use this feature. (Remember the concert is on june 29th at noon in europe that means for example sunday morning 6 o'clock in Cleveland !) Please, everybody who would join this event on the internet send me a (short) email with the subject "Audioactive". I'll post more details as soon as possible. Martin PS.: Please copy this mail to related mailing lists etc. PPS.: The pressrelease Toriocracy - A Hommage to Tori Amos Toriocracy: [Tor-ie-ak-ra-see] A system or society living under the influence of Tori's music Her fans call themselves "Toriphiles" [Tor-ie-files], they are named "Ears with feet" by herself. We are talking about the amercian musician Tori Amos, who became a well known composer, pianist and singer in the international popscene since her first soloalbum 1992. With her compositions she leaves the path of mainstream music, she convinces with emotional piano playing and expressive singing. Her lyrics create in casual listeners a picture of injudiciousness - but carefull listeners will find out, that Tori Amos does not shrink back from taboos of our society and works up her adventures, experiences and opinions with a multitude of metaphors. This music does not inspire only a worldwide fan-society, but induced a couple of artists from Aachen (Germany) to organize a concert and to get down to Tori Amos' compositions in different ways. This lead to a concert program in co-operation with the ASTA Kulturreferat (student organisation) of the RWTH (university of Aachen) and the "Ludwig Forum für internationale Kunst" (museum for international arts in Aachen) which will be presented June 29, noon in the "Space im Ludwig Forum", Jülicher Straße 97-109, Aachen. The program will introduce Tori's music to persons who haven't heard about this artist before and will give Toriphiles the chance to celebrate their "Toriophobia". The concert will support a fan-meeting in this region (Aachen, Cologne, Düsseldorf) and will include an "after-the-show-program", encouraging discussions among fans. The personal engagement of Tori Amos is dedicated to raped women. She not only reports about her personal experiences in her songs but stands up for the victims by founding and supporting "RAINN" ("The Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network", organizing the only nationwide, free hotline in the USA). To appreciate and support these activities as well we will give the "Notruf für vergewaltigte Frauen und Mädchen" ("Emergency call for raped women and girls") in Aachen the benefit of the proceeds of this concert. You can buy tickets in advance at the ASTA of the RWTH and the Ludwig forum (13,- DM, reduced 7,- DM) or before the concert (15,- DM , reduced 9,- DM). I will clear >things up for all of you who aren't sure about things : thank you, oh knowledgable one. ;) >3) The terms "cornflake girl" and "raisin girl" are old Southern things >people said like forever ago. really? that's the first i've ever heard that the two types o'girls were southern jargon (something like r.e.m.'s "losing my religion" or "katey bar the kitchen door" from "we walk"). >Tori never was a Cornflake Girl. And she thought that was a good solution :) the tone of her voice when she sings "thought it was a good solution" implies, to me anyways, that she now is thinking twice about hanging with the raisin girls. i never understood why this song was one of the three that tori singled out as dealing with the betrayal of women by women until i noticed how she sings that line...also note the use of the past tense. woj ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 May 1997 22:06:44 -0400 (EDT) From: Traumachik@aol.com Subject: Great Expectations and some other stuff As far as the music to Great Expectations goes...what does it consist of? Is it instrumental, or layered vocals like the b-side "The Pool"? Has Tori written any new songs for this, or rerecorded any old ones? Speaking of "The Pool"...does anyone else think this could be about her bisexuality? And now, for something off-topic. Our local frat-rock radio statiton annunced a news item about Jeff Buckley dying after drowning in a swimming pool. However, it was presented in a very joking manner, so I don't know if they were being serious or not. Anyone know for sure? - --Chelsea np: Velvet Underground, _Fully Loaded_ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 May 1997 22:54:36 -0300 From: "Nicolas Lukaszewicz" Subject: Tori's sales hey all! i just was wondering if any of you know the total sales of Boys for Pele? cause i dont.... Very sad. It *is* very sad and also very ironic. Of course his father, Tim Buckley, also died tragically at age 28 from a drug overdose. Seems weird the way these things happen like Bruce Lee and Brandon Lee, fathers and sons both dying young.
