First, so did she or did she not win anything in the United states? Second, could anyone please tell me all of Tori's chart positions (albums and singles) in the Billboard charts? Much appreciated. According to Mike Gonzalez who's on a mailing list with MSNBC, the program The Site will be shown at 7:00 PM EST, 1:00 AM EST, and 4:00 AM EST. (Thanks for telling us about this, Mike!) Going to the MSNBC website just a bit ago I found the listing of the musicians who are to be featured topics tonight. The blurb about Tori on there links to an article about her, which might even be the script for the segment about her tonight. I don't know. I didn't see this the first time it was telecast last July, as I was out in Seattle, where I'd traveled from my home in Maryland to see more Tori concerts. :-D Anyway, the bottom of the article links to some of the major Tori websites, including Mikey's Dent, Kevin's pointer site, and the RDT archive site at M.I.T. I'm putting the initial blurb and the article below. Beware of the raging inaccuracies contained in said article. Be seeing you, Richard Handal, H.G. <>====<>====<>====<>====<>====<>====<>====<>====<>====<>====<>====<>====<> http://www.thesite.com/toppages/s2n.html site tonite [...] F R I D A Y 2.28.97 [...] t o r i a m o s * Online communities can form when people realize that they have more than just musical taste-- in this case, admiration for Tori Amos-- in common. <>====<>====<>====<>====<>====<>====<>====<>====<>====<>====<>====<>====<> http://www.thesite.com/0796w3/play/play51_071596.html MSNBC The Site Tori Amos, Web goddess Tori Amos may be unplugged, but her fans sure aren't. Find out why this pop singer has almost as many Web sites as the Grateful Dead. By Erin English July 15, 1996 Tori Amos as the Jerry Garcia of the late 90s? Well, don't count on Ben & Jerry to come out with "Tori Toffee" anytime soon. But still, not only do her acolytes follow her from concert to concert (sound familiar?), but she's gaining ground on the Dead in Cyberspace. The latest tally: Dead -- at least 100 Web sites. Tori Amos: more than 70 and growing. Meanwhile, Amos is quite happy to ignore the digital age. She confesses that she doesn't even know how to turn on a computer. But just as Amos connects to people through her silky voice and baby-grand, her fans are sharing their innermost Tori-reflections on Net bulletin boards with names like "Really Deep Thoughts." Oh, please. Don't get me wrong, I've heard her croon and even tuned into MTV's Tori Amos "Unplugged" the other night. She has that incredibly cool, glassy-eyed, half-smile and a comfortable look when she sings that makes you want to know exactly what she's thinking and feeling. But it wasn't until I started sifting through all the Tori Amos 'stuff' on the Internet that I realized how she has become an idol for many young women (and some men). Fans have unhesitatingly followed Amos and they painstakingly relay the details of every concert. Did you see what she was wearing? Did you hear what she said? Don't you just love her hair? In the old days, groupies connected through more traditional means. Remember drooling on in fan mags like "Bop" and "Tiger Beat?" And then, with a red pen, carefully circling all the penpal ads in the back that mentioned Michael Jackson or Madonna? I do... Making friends with fans of famous people through snail mail is outre. These days, you've got to be totally wired to get the full scoop on who's hot and who's not, and to meet other worshipers. Strangely enough, rock stars are gaining unheard of momentum not through live performances or "Super-Saver" CD promotions, but via audio clips of their music available on the Net. Of course Amos' way of emotionally connecting with the audience in 'real life' probably hasn't hurt her ascent to pop star status. It comes as no surprise then that Amos' gaggle of fans overwhelmingly consist of young women; women who have experienced the kind of pain that Amos vividly expresses in songs like "Blood Roses." Her lyrics reflect their lives: songs about physical and mental abuse, the need for self-esteem, getting in touch with God. These women aren't finding growing up so easy. Amos, as a rape victim who had some tough times, has become their spokeswoman. Even success wasn't easy for Amos, who began her singing career at age 21. In fact her first album, entitled "Y Kant Tori Read" has been referred to as a "commercial failure" by more than one critic. Her next album, "Me and a Gun" was well received, as were "Little Earthquakes," "Crucify," "Under the Pink," and now "Boys for Pele," released this year. Check out the dozens of Tori Amos web sites -- you'll find out why she's so popular, in case you've been under a rock somewhere and haven't heard of her. Somehow, I don't think anyone ever waxed this poetic about Jerry's hair. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Feb 1997 12:18:37 -0500 (EST) From: jennifer Subject: More Pink Just a $ issue here. If I'm not mistaken, the folks at http://www.abcds.com are currently selling it for $30ish American. The other online stores, such as http://www.cdnow.com and http://www.cdconnection.com also sell it, I believe, for about the same. You got a pretty good price on it, though!
