When I was music director for my little bitty college radio station {a whole 100 W out of Alma, MI ;) }, we had some problems with folks playing boots. IIRC, the only way you can play a boot is if you have the explicit permission of the artist in question -> and just saying "but Tori said I could play this" isn't enough. ;) You have to be able to prove that you have permission. So, for example, I couldn't play any of my REM or Tori boots because I didn't have permission. However, the guy who did the "locals only" show would get soundboard tapes from the bands in question and had them sign a letter saying that they could play it. The bands liked it 'cause it got them some much-needed exposure, and of course we liked it. You *may*, however, be able to play something that was broadcast on another radio station. {No one that I chatted with about this was very clear on it.} So, for example, if you were to get your hands on one of Tori's performances on "Live X" from WNNX here in Atlanta, you may be able to play that on the air. I would suggest checking with your music director. They may decide that it's just not worth it to risk playing a bootleg, 'cause the FCC can be bastards sometimes. The fines are expensive as hell, and it is possible for the station to lose their broadcasting license, which probably wouldn't make you a very popular guy. ;) /nad *************************************************************************** * Nadyne Mielke, CS majour, Southern Tech, Marietta, GA * * * * "I regret to say that we of the FBI are powerless to act in cases of * * oral-genital intimacy, unless it has in some way obstructed interstate * * commerce. The American Journal website was updated to reflect this week's schedule, and Tori's listed as *the* story on Friday, the 21st. They'll almost undoubtedly have another story or two on the show, and be advised that it could easily be bumped for fast-breaking tawdriness, but this is what they're saying officially is scheduled at this point, Tuesday afternoon. Also be advised that some stations carry the Friday show on Monday in the morning, so one must be aware of this, as well. I'm still taping everyday until it's on. I don't trust them. But, before she ever became a star, she had to overcome a terrible incident in her past. Years ago, Amos was sexually assaulted. She has never tried to hide the assault, and has, in fact, addressed the subject in her songs. AMERICAN JOURNAL speaks with Amos in an exclusive backstage conversation. I may have missed this on an earlier message, but I'm not familiar with American Journal. I looked in my TV listings and can't find it. Is it on regular TV or cable? What time and channel? Jan ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Feb 1997 20:50:34 -0500 (EST) From: Richard Handal Subject: Re: Tori scheduled for AJ *Friday* I got a couple queries about this by private mail, so it seems some people need more info about how to find this show. Janet Miller asked-- > I may have missed this on an earlier message, but I'm not familiar with > American Journal. AJ is a nationally syndicated 30 minute show. Local broadcast stations pay money for the rights to it and then they can play it whenever they want to. You'll just have to check your local listings. That's how I found it here in the D.C. TV market. I had never watched the show. It's produced with running in early afternoon or evening in mind, but, for example, our local station here that runs it shows it at 11am. The episode they play then is the one on the nationally listed schedule for the day before, so it gets to be a bit tricky. You'll just have to check your local TV listings. If it's on in the evening there or late at night such as at 3am, then it should be on Friday. If it's on in the morning where you live, it almost certainly is the one which had been scheduled nationally as the one for the day before. Then I'd expect Tori will be on on Monday. > I looked in my TV listings and can't find it. It's possible that no station in your area of the U.S. carries it. It tends to be on smaller and independent stations, and is sometimes on at odd hours. If you scour your local listings carefully and still don't find it, go to American Journal's Home Page at: http://www.kingworld.com/ajournal/ and look for phone numbers at Kingworld, the producer/distributor, and call to ask them if and where it's available in your TV market. Janet, your internet provider is Erol's, so I suspect you live in the D.C. area. AJ is on WFTY channel 50 in the D.C. area at 11am M - F. I expect to see this show with Tori on Monday at 11am. Hope that is enough explanation. I'm kind of out of it right now.
