Many of you may have noticed the "Red Key Choker" that Tori wore on the David Letterman show on 1/29/97 and questioned how to go about getting one. This is the red key symbolizing RAINN in an effort to Unlock the Silence. Well, I spoke to the person, William Fuentes from New York, who is the designer of the "RAINN - Unlock the Silence" symbolic key necklace and he asked me to pass this information on to all Tori-philes. William is working in conjunction with Calvin Klein on production of the key necklace as a fundraising item to sell, with all proceeds going directly to RAINN. He is in the final phase of getting the green light on production and desperately needs your input. He needs to show that this item would be of marketing interest to Tori fans everywhere and has asked me to act as liason in his effort. William currently does not have access to email and asked that I hardcopy your responses onto him, which I certainly agreed to. Your input on the following questions would be greatly appreciated by William, Tori, and RAINN for marketing purposes. 1. Would you be interested in purchasing an "Unlock the Silence" choker or necklace? 2. Would you prefer the RAINN key symbol come with a matching chain or would you prefer the symbol by itself to put on a chain of your own? 3. How much would you be willing to pay or what do you feel would be a fair/acceptable price for items of this sort ($5, $10) ? 4. What other items would you like to see made available to benefit RAINN (i.e. keychains, pins) ? This is a fundraising effort for RAINN and all proceeds shall go directly to RAINN. Unlock the Silence and show your support for RAINN, Tori, and those that benefit from such a worthy cause by responding with your comments to: dpiccolo@zd.com I will forward your responses on to William, so we can get the ball rolling!!! Thank you all, Debbie Piccolo ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 3 Feb 1997 13:12:21 -0800 (PST) From: Richard Holmes Subject: Re: Negative comment made about Tori on Roseanne Jeff writes: > Of course it's a good thing that not everyone is in love with > Tori, BUT it is extremely inappropriate for a national > network to downgrade her life-long work. Jeff, I agree that it is disrespectful, and in many ways, infuriating. Tori does deserve respect. And I can fully understand that you are furious. This subject brings up my long-standing distrust of things media - is it really *surprising* or *unusual* that this should happen. Our culture regularly takes pot-shots at people's life-long works, and often in manners much more cruel. On prime-time, I'd fully expect such antics, since they regularly degrade everything of value. Tori is unusual, touched by the Fey, and is strong enough to come out in the media with it. Talk such as Tori's (whether its in her songs, or interviews) will provoke anger, confusion, and ridicule in the status quo. It also touches on another thing that our society routinely does - discourage creativity (and in particular, musical creativity). It is accepted to ridicule a beginner's attempts at song, instrument, or composition. It is almost required. There is this fallacy that the only ones who deserve to play an instrument / sing are those who are "born with it" or are virtuosic after 10 hrs a day of practice (yes, I know I'm exaggerating a bit). There is little acceptance of what used to be common-place: ordinary people creating music. Pauline Oliveros, a contemporary composer, has an interesting book on some of these subjects: "Software for People". If you like meditative music with a unique twist, give her a try. And if you've never heard psychedelic accordion played by a Faery with quite an interesting sense of humor, second that suggestion. Anyway, hang in there. I don't suspect that Tori-bashing is going to get any less pronounced as long as she keeps being popular and maintains her high profile. But she's strong, and so are her fans. Vote with your feet (eyes) - don't watch that crap seeping from the venomous tube of the status quo - and create your own visions which feed the world which artists like Tori create. I haven't heard anything about it for a while. Does anyone know if there's gonna be any more singles from BFP or is it done? The hey jupiter box is a box, some have the UK CD of hey Jupiter/ Professional Widow and a photo book and the Cornflake Box is a promo item for Cornflake Girl, Tori's pic on a box of Cornflakes, there is a picture of it in ALL THESE YEARS.
