I'm formally apologizing to everyone who got a bit pissed at the presence of a huge post that contained very little Tori-relevance. Sorry about that. I made a stupid. On a different note, has anyone a good recommendation as to where I could acquire some of Tori's videos? There's approxmiately ZERO places in my culturally-deprived town of Bowling Green, KY to find music videos AT ALL. And considering as that I don't waste my time with the likes of MTVdieviacomdie, I rarely get to see any of her videos. On a few (rare) occasions I've found myself in the position of being a bit annoyed by Tori, especially during the live recordings of 1996. The real feeling behind her music is sometimes replaced by a manierism [not sure of this term BTW] which I find particularly disturbing. Not everyone is a ToriFan. That's good. There are as much different opinions as there are people. Try to find some explanations for what you feel. People can only hurt you if they know your weak spots. I completely agree, but I laugh at this whole deal when I think about it. C'mon guys the show....*Roseanne* like anyone who watches it is gonna think from now on "Oh that Tori Amos singer must suck if that guy on Roseanne said so!" I bet no one even remembers it. As for it being even worse, because it was primetime tv, well, maybe some of us don't notice how many singers and actors are bashed because we don't care so much, but its taken a bit more personally when someone we like is the bash-ee. There are many many people who I'm sure put just as much (maybe not in the same way, but never the less) heart and soul into their work, and they *all* get negative comments made about them sooner or later. I'm not sure if I necessarily agree with all your points, but I think you're basically right. I've been thinking this way since I saw her live (DDI tour).Inside the program (check if you got it) take a look at the illustration for horses. Take a look at the way the monkeys/gorillas/whatevers are all poised. They look like fans. And there's Tori seated on her piano bench (I think... I'm going by memory right now). However, the thing that makes me think it's not referring to her fans is the fact that the monkeys in the illustration would represent us, there IS a horse in the pic, but it's one that's set apart from the monkeys and is closer to her. Take a look at the pic and tell me what you all think. Why anyone would think that because in a sitcom *one* *character* said he didn't like something certainly does *not* indicate "the writers"--neither collectively nor individually--feel the same way. And even if someone really wanted to believe that, then what about the *other* character saying that she *did* like Tori? Why conveniently ignore *her* statement that she liked Tori? Why do folks want so desperately to feel their beliefs are being attacked? Amazing. I find this entire thread quite bizarre. (Here, as well as on RDT, and briefly on ToriNews.) I think anyone not realizing that if Tori had seen the show that she wouldn't be TOTALLY laughing her ass off when that exchange about her occurred in the dialog seems really out of touch. Unless she speaks of it herself this remains, obviously, my opinion, (it *is* the only one I have), but nonetheless, it indicates the opinion of "the writers" no more than a murder on a TV drama would indicate that "the writers" support murder. That folks wouldn't instantly laugh at and enjoy such a reference in a major sitcom concerns me. That seems really out there. Tori being recognized *at* *all* in major media outlets is always a good thing. The people upset over this never heard of the expression "there's no such thing as bad publicity"? If anything, some folks hearing in that exchange the name Tori Amos for the first time might even be curious enough about it to check her music out. I find absolutely nothing negative in the Roseanne thing, and only lots of positive stuff. Right on, I say.
