(of course, i too like the $5 per bootleg to go to RAINN, also, copy a bootleg for someone... spread it around.... it might make you feel better about owning it). this cd was $24.95. if anyone wants one, i can pick it up for you and mail it, or you can contact them directly at: 1-800-636-6166 or email: rainy@mindspring.com web page: http://www.rainy.com - -rusty (agentorange2@juno.com) POE has a mailing list! for info: angry-psychos-request@smoe.org web page, "Disconnected Modem": http://members.aol.com/TAPList/modem.html "the future is a slut. she promises herself to everyone..." -poe ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Dec 96 08:00:36 UT From: "Mickey Sun" Subject: To boot or not to boot.... Hello Everyone, Since bootlegs has been the topic of conversation for the last few days, I think I'll put in my two cents worth of incoherent babbling. I neither condone or condemn the selling or buying of bootlegs. Yes, a bootleg is illegal and it rips the artist off. However, it is also a great way of exposing an artist to people who are unfamiliar their work. I've made several compilation tapes ("bootlegs") of Tori for my friends because they were very curious behind why I love her so much. Well, after listening to the tapes, they became fans themselves. I've "persuaded" over nine people in buying Tori albums this way. And what I taped for them are not anything widely available commercially. I'd never tape anyone full versions of LE, UtP, or BfP. It's usually the b-sides from the three albums plus some live stuff. I've always taped my Tori b-sides and concerts for anyone who provides me with a blank tape and postage (anyone who's interested, email me privately). I think what happened in the case of Tori Stories should be widely condemned. No one, not the bootleggers, not us the fans, has to right to break into the homes of Tori's parents (I think) and steal something which is that valuable to them. But, anyone who's willing to shell out $80 for Tori Stories are definitely hard-core fanatics who will buy ANYTHING which is remotely related to Tori. Meaning: Tori's not losing out on any royalties and stuff like that (if I'm wrong, let me know). As I said before, I neither condone or condemn bootlegs. I do own several bootlegs myself. But, I have not bought a copy in quite awhile (no $$). However, if the bootleg is of a particular show I want, I'd definitely buy it without any hesitation. Anyway, these are my thoughts about the matter, if you wish to reply, do it by all means. If not, have a happy day. Mickey PS Happy Holidays Everyone! Don't eat too much! It is a good CD, sounds great but what makes it really worth while is the great production... the cover photos and such. Also, regarding the cover artwork, I saw a fellow Toriphile in Melbourne, Fl who had a smaller photo like that on a pin... I wonder if she made it herself or what? Anyway, I am always happy to tape boots for anyone who wants to trade or sends me a tape... so if anyone is interested mail me. Between us all, we'd probably have every single recording of Tori ever made in existence... Okay so maybe we don't, but we certainly have a ton of Tori stuff. I think we should have a tape trading list or something like that. This way, we don't have to pay so much $$ for new unofficial Tori stuff and we'd also feel better the world because we'd know we have done a good deed to Toriphiles everywhere. I personally have lot's of earlier shows and I have a really nice friend who has a lot of '96 shows who's always willing to trade. With me, you don't HAVE to trade. You can just mail me a blank tape (or if you live in the vicinity of UC Santa Cruz, GIVE me a blank tape) and I'll be happy to tape whatever I have for you. Now, I know this might be redundant, but I'm not taping anyone LE, UtP, or BfP but I'll tape you whatever b-side that I have plus the live concerts stuff. If you are interested, email me at: MickeySun@msn.com and I'll mail you a list of the things I have. If you are interested in the '96 shows my friend has, and you don't have anything to trade, let me know and I'll try to get it for you. HOLD ON!! I almost forgot. I'm not near my Tori collection right now. I'm home for Christmas. If you want something, you're going have to wait until next year (it's only two weeks away). Over time, they will eventually attract dust bunnies that are trying to be Fresh and Full of Life. The wayward Mento will eventually become rock hard and when you try to eat it will hurt you.
