Re: Hey there, hi there, ho there Re: Song Connections ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Ewald Katherine Date: Wed, 06 Nov 1996 19:38:19 EST Subject: Song Connections This is kind of along the topic on related songs... Ever notice how Tori has the *perfect* conclusion to all of her albums? Little Earthquakes is the best "last" song ever....I think if I could hear one song before I die that would be it - "give me life, give me pain, give me myself again" Under the Pink is dramatically wrapped up with Yes Anastasia and Twinkle is just such a good final song, a lullaby of sorts. Even on YKTR, Etienne is the perfect finale. Just a thought. I'll go along with that, but it's not something spec. Tori...just a sign of an excellent artist. The mediocre musician considers an album a collection of songs...but the outstanding musician realizes it is a total piece. Some real good examples I can think of: Pink Floyd (Division Bell...Wall...Dark Side) Bowie (Outside) NIN (Downward Spiral) Dream Theater (Awake) Something she did a little in Pele, but she should do more of is the use of album themes... Really ties stuff together...she already does it in lyrics. Floyd and now Nails REALLY use this...incredible effect to have the final song come together as a compilation of the other songs' melodies. - -- -Bob rahvin@wam.umd.edu http://horatio.dorm.umd.edu *)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*) "Women and men (both dong and ding) summer autumn winter spring reaped their sowing and went their came sun moon stars rain" e.e.cummings ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V1 #222 *************************************
