I didn't hear all of the dialogue since I was cruising the web at the time, but for all those with the E! cable channel, I know they repeat the previous day's E! These Precious Things [1], The song title "These Precious Things" on the "New Music From Tori Amos" promo CD is incorrect. Atlantic Records is just like any other company - sometimes things get rushed through without much fact checking or editing. The correct song title is "Precious Things". -Greg ("he writes letters...") ------------------------------ From: hamdingr@theworks.com (by way of hamdingr@theworks.com) Date: Tue, 2 Jul 96 19:04:36 EDT Subject: thoughts right now interesting tidbit on the b-side of "silent all these years (uk single)", "thoughts". tori talks about how the song came to be... "'girl' was being recorded and i couldn't get a take. i was freaking out. eric [rosse] was in the booth playing air ball encouraging me to take a ten minute. glued on the bench, i started this thing coming from nowhere singing nonsense into the mike. when i finished, eric said, 'it's a take.' i said 'what?' ---he had left the machine running." -suzanne yada (me) (formerly happy phantom of prodigy) hamdingr@theworks.com - -sometimes i go into my own little world. but it's okay, they know me there. -joel hodgson ------------------------------ From: hamdingr@theworks.com Date: Tue, 2 Jul 96 19:06:51 EDT Subject: sheet music review... - --=====================_836348509==_ Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" does anyone else actually PLAY tori's songs on the piano? i have all her albums' songbooks, and i want the bee sides. but some of the arrangements in the book are pretty questionable, i.e. they made happy phantom repeat and fade, precious things has a weird arrangement after "tucked inside the heart of every nice girl," and they left out a billion chords and notes in cloud on my tongue. but i love playing her songs. i can actually feel them coming to me. good example is the doughnut song. i hate playing five flats, but i can. i actually can with that song! as a matter of fact, it was the music for yes, anastasia that hooked me to tori and brought me back to piano. the whole UtP book, in fact, taught me more about piano music than any teacher could teach me (like, how to play five flats and how to transpose seven sharps). out of the three, though, the boys for pele book has the best arrangements, although there are some hard ones. "hey, jupiter," "putting the damage on," "little amsterdam," "twinkle," parts of "caught a lite sneeze," "way down," and, of course, "beauty queen" are the most sight-readable out of the book, with a half-credit to "agent orange." if you can read five flats, "doughnut song" is also an easy-read. in the UtP book, the arrangements suck and a lot of them are difficult. "bells for her," "past the mission," "the waitress," "space dog," and "yes, anastasia" are the easiest, with half-point to "pretty good year." again, if you can read the songs with several flats or sharps in the signature, "cloud on my tongue," baker baker," and "icicle" are good reads. little earthquakes is probably the easiest to play, but some of them i have to transpose. (helpful hint--you can play any song with six flats in a different key (G)...just play the notes as written, all natural except for an F#. try transposing different keys--play the notes ALL NATURAL and add flats or sharps where it sounds like you need them.) "girl," "silent all these years," "precious things," "winter" (if you transpose it to the key of G), "happy phantom," "china," "little earthquakes," and (duh) "me and a gun" are easy for me, with a half-point to "leather." "tear in your hand" is one of those songs with the big key signature, but if you can read five sharps, it's easy (and repetitve, kinda boring to play with no accompaniment.) "girl" is also boring to play. this is on topic. yes, it is. don't try to tell me that it isn't...:) oh, well... -suzanne yada (me) (formerly happy phantom of prodigy) hamdingr@theworks.com - --=====================_836348509==_ Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" - -sometimes i go into my own little world. but it's okay, they know me there. -joel hodgson - --=====================_836348509==_ Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" - --=====================_836348509==_-- ------------------------------ From: Jim Harris Date: Tue, 2 Jul 1996 19:27:47 -0400 (EDT) Subject: "Hey Jupiter"/"Professional Widow" Trade I am looking for someone in the United Kingdom who could provide me with the "Hey Jupiter" single. I would be willing to provide them with the "Professional Widow" single. A straight trade is what I am suggesting, including paying for the CD and postage to the other country. If anyone would be interested, please e-mail me at jharris@raven.cybercomm.net so we can discuss this matter. (Among other things, I need to see how rare 'PW' is on this end!)
