Thanks :) Jen ------------------------------ From: violet@slip.net Date: Tue, 14 May 1996 20:32:45 -0800 Subject: Fun at the Tori Digital Event :) Well, I see that nobody else mentioned anything about the online concert from Virgin Records in New York (at least not on ToriNews), so I thought I'd speak up. It was GREAT! She did four songs (Crucify, SATY, Cornflake Girl, and Hey Jupiter). I had a bit of trouble with the video, but was able to see some of it. (Each time I went to it, the more it downloaded the worse my audio got, so I kept quitting around 50-60K.) Then there was a Q&A session. (One guy said he really likes her and has no idea why, so he asked her why she thought he liked her so much! Geez!) She answered questions about hair dye, writer's block, her creative process, told of how she started out playing pancake dinners at church and moved up to gay bars, lots of nifty info. Did you miss it? Never fear! You can be there after the fact. The whole thing is being archived in the Digital Arena. I'll tell you where to go, so to speak. :) Follow this URL to the Emerald City: http://www.atlantic-records.com/DigitalArena/toriamos-051396/ Once you get there, this is what you'll find.... Choose AUDIO to hear the concert as it was broadcast. VIDEO says to check back to see when it will be rebroadcast. PHOTOS has (surprise!) photos. There are ten pics of Tori performing at the store (these are stills from the online video broadcast that were put up after the event), four of her before the show (these were up during the performance), three pics of fans at the show, and a small collage of photos from the event. (Sort of sounds like "The Twelve Days of Christmas," doesn't it?) CHAT is to go to the chatroom, although even during the performance, it was boring and had not a single person there talking about her, so try this out only if you're REALLY desperate for something to do. ARCHIVE has a previous Poe show, and this is probably where the Tori performance will eventually end up shortly. "View the entire commentary" is self-explainatory (explainaTORI?), and (if you read the script) it's fairly obvious that I was there. ;) And although the commentator mentioned a couple of questions that I didn't ask (which indicates that there were at least SOME other people there), I was the only person there for much of the time. (I was the one to point out that the guitarist was Steve Caton. I also had them double check whether Tori was going to be on Conan Tuesday or Wednesday. And I asked questions about the video and audio.) In fact, after the event was over, the commentators (Keith and Jem) and I finally got into a very long personal discussion that (thank goodness!) they deleted from public view. I wonder if we said anything that would be of interest to the average fan.... I will have to check my downloaded copy. I had started to transcribe Tori's comments from the live audio feed, but my computer crashed and I lost it all. If anyone is interested in this (i.e., if you can't hear the audio for some reason), let me know and I'll go ahead and post a transcript. If there's anything you can't figure out, just ask. (I'm no computer whiz, but having gone through the experience myself and getting over the trouble spots, I may be able to give SOME advice. :> ) Oh, and what I was afraid would happen happened. I went to the page and just sat there for the longest time trying to figure out how to get to the Arena. At least I figured it out BEFORE the show started. So, follow the yellow brick road and have fun. Please let me know what you think of it. A big improvement over her MTV Unplugged taping. The quote of the evening has to be Tori interrupting all the assholes shouting during WINTER to let her finish her song. Covers for the evening included I'M ON FIRE, OVER THE RAINBOW and A CASE OF YOU for the final encore. I didn't think something like that would creep up on me without hearing about it. Are there any other upcoming appearances on tv or radio that we should look out for? And ack, I'm distraught. I knew nothing about the whole net concert event. Precious things is fine as it is, but is there any other group (other than yucky rmta) that is more centered on news and events that I might also join, that would mention things like her appearance on conan, or this web concert?
