I saw Tori Amos playing live 15th of March, in the Netherlands. There was no shouting at all. It couldn't anyway, the convert was much intimate, much to sad, to just sing along... Thank God. Sadly one individual behind me apreciated Tori Amos not that much, (s)he was talking all the time. I think that was the exception. All was quiet. -Sis. - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- "Life's good, but not fair at all." - Lou Reed *********************************************************************** email: sister@mediaport.org Sister Ray Headqtrs. or email: sisterra@pi.net url website: http://mediaport.org/~sisterra - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL SCENE! *********************************************************************** ------------------------------ From: Francie Date: Mon, 29 Apr 1996 14:15:28 -0400 (EDT) Subject: Crowd behavior I absolutely am disgusted by people who midst their claims of avid Tori- ness, disregard anyone else who happens to not be such a large fan of Tori Amos as themselves. I think it's great that she is experiencing such great success with her new album. Afterall, her goal is capitalistic as well as for personal well being, otherwise she would allow bootlegging and cameras in concert, plus the T-shirts wouldn't be $25 bucks a pop. I have several friends who happen to not be as big of a Tori freak as I am and only started listening to her because of recent local radio playing. I'm very glad they attended her concert in Columbia with me. But to answer your question directly, the crowd behavior was fine. People applauded at the end of each song and remained in their seats the entire time. Seeing as the bulk of the concert goers in Columbia were fans who had seen her before, those new to her performance were standing about 5 seconds before they realized that they were the only ones standing. When she did something exceptional within a song people applauded. The only time where I was personally anxious about crowd behavior was during Me and A Gun where my generalizations bit me back when I saw that everyone remained perfectly quiet. - -Francie ____________________________________ Frances C. At the risk of insulting some people here (as I've noticed the trend that these lists are getting younger and younger lately..) I'm going to say this. don't think I mean you just because you happen to be 16 or something. I am bothered a lot by ageism too, and I am not trying to make sweeping generalizations about all teenagers... but there are definitely some people who go to all the concerts by anybody who is getting coverage on the radio, and have nice rich parents who can pay for their tickets or whatever, who also happen to be young enough to have not developed a sense of respect for a performer and a sense of what's appropriate to do or not do at the concert. Squealing in the middle of a song or gossiping to their friend about random stuff during the concert is kind of rude...why waste your money during a concert if you're going to do that? Along those lines I am also increasingly disappointed by the Tori lists I've been on in the past few years. I think it's part due to changes in the makeup of the net itself, but it seems that as time goes on, people are less and less likely to want to talk about Tori, and more and more likely to want to either flame at each other or look for "pen pals" or whatever. If people on a list develop a nice comfy friendship and way of sharing their lives with each other, that's cool, but it doesn't seem to me like the primary purpose of a list like this and it doesn't seem like something to aim at. ie, first post some stuff about tori before you tell us every other day what's up in your life. *shrug* - -abbe As a side note...It also gives you a weird feeling to know you've been listening to an artist since those annoying kids behind you who keep screeching at things were about four years old, which was my experience at the REM concert this past summer.. but I don't hold it against them, either. So they missed out on the better older songs...maybe now they'll become exposed to what this group was doing when they were younger. I just don't want them to ruin my concert experience by screaming at annoying times. ------------------------------ From: "Lucy M Carey" Date: Mon, 29 Apr 1996 22:16:48 -0400 (EDT) Subject: Tori in PEOPLE 50 Most Beautiful (fwd) Forwarded message: From OMBO@aol.com Mon Apr 29 21:22:45 1996 From: OMBO@aol.com Message-ID: <960429212019_283@chihuly.chihuly.com> Date: Mon, 29 Apr 1996 21:20:20 -0400 Sender: OMBO@aol.com Organization: CHIHULY To: torinews@chihuly.com Subject: Tori in PEOPLE 50 Most Beautiful MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT X-Mailer: Connect2-SMTP 4.01.b31E MHS to SMTP Gateway Tori is featured as one of PEOPLE Magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People of 1996 in the issue that hit the newsstands today. As with the other 49, there's a suitably gorgeous picture and a very brief blurb. Silly, yes, but kinda nice, and a definite Tori Media Keepsake. While on the magazine subject, does anyone know what's happening with the Rolling Stone cover story? It was supposed to hit in April, but the new RS has X-Files on the cover.
