I would think it would be Joel (I don't know his last name) as he always tours with Tori in the U.S. at least and acts as a bodyguard/security person. He has very styled very blond hair, and is lean and muscled, and every time I've seen him he's wearing black. He's also very protective of Tori. The times I've seen Tori, he's been the one saying whether she'd come out and say hi or not (and usually she does more than he says she will). I think he's trying to protect her from (1) wearing herself out, and (2) weird fans. She likes to meet with fans if she can so it's a hard job. Clips of Talula was also showed. They talked about antelopes (why did they talk about 'day of antelope' and wanted to congratulate them?!) and Tori said something like, "have you heard what the antelope sound like when they are mating? it's beautiful...." They asked her 5 questions... one is about the worst habit - to spit gums out of the window, second one is about what she wears in bed - usually a tartan blanket with a baseball shirt, third one being who she snort with the last time - her boyfriend, forth one is what part of body would she swap - her thighs, and sorry i didn't get the last one... that's all. ------------------------------ From: "Sister Ray" Date: Tue, 19 Mar 1996 01:50:54 CET Subject: who's gifted? ** On 17 Mar 96, carlgjf@mbox.vol.it wrote: >When I was small I could play Gershwin too, but I could never write >a Torisong, ::: Guess you can't write a Gershwin either :-) [But i know what you wanted to say...] ** On 18 Mar 96, Marion Kippers wrote: >So, last Friday I saw Tori Amos in concert in The Hague, The >Netherlands. ::: I did too, that's why i reply. When i bought the tickets, they were all there were left, so we couldn't choose. I was afraid we would see nothing of Ms Amos. The building is well designed, no heads of those in front of me were 'disturbing' my view. In fact, we didn't saw very very much of Ms Amos, but it was enough for me, i came to listen in the first place, not to watch. This turned out to be a advantage, because we had some sort of overview, with only rarely being blinded by the lights. I loved the lightshow, it made it even more impressive, although i have to say she don't need it. Those stars dissapeared too soon, i agree. >then she played 'Smells like teen spirit'. And that was so intense ::: I loved that one too. I already knew it live from a bootleg, but this was much clearer, much more beautifull. During the first three or four songs i didn't liked the sound like it was in the hall, in spite of the wellknown building. During those first songs i was annoyed by the, what you call in the dutch the 'sis-klanken', the sound of the words with combinations of 'i', 't', 's' and 'ch' in it. Those were much too shrill, strident. To me it seemed this was corrected later on. >she started to talk, while she played along on her Bosendorfer. "This >is a weird night for me", she said, and she paused, and she told how >two days ago she was still in the UK when those kids were murdered. >[A madman shot sixteen schoolkids and a teacher and then himself in >Scotland.] "I don't know what it was like over here, but when >you're in the country when it happens..." ::: On the day she told this (i guess) about 25 ppl got killed in the Netherlands. I know it impresses the masses when something like that in Scotland happens, but to me it's hypocrite... >She talked with long pauses, and as the whole audience held their >breath to hear what she wanted to tell us, she shrugged and said "I >don't talk very well. [pause] I invited them to come and dance >with us here tonight, because I think people who are murdered need a >place to dance..." ::: I hold my breath too. I was really breathtaking, the way she told it. I love tje last line. >I'm not sure if I would have missed him if he hadn't been with >her... ::: She don't needed Steve, but it didn't bothered me that he was featured in some of the songs. It added something to the songs, just like the lightshow. >'Me and a gun' ::: This song was perfomed betterm than on the record, imho. It was intenser. The song i loved the best [is this english?] was Not The Red Baron, played with much more magic than it is brought on the record. >I was moved and impressed, this concert was everything I had >expected and hoped it would be like, and the tension was so heavy. >A very special concert, though I guess you had to be in the mood for >it (I was). ::: I agree, although i was a little more pessimistic about it before. Ms Amos is for me something like Sonic Youth. Both they are special to me, i'm a fan of both (not a fanatic, i'm happy to say that :-)), and i have most of the relaesed records (all of Ms Amos, albums). But going to their convert is different. Sonic will perform next month, but i won't see them. I'm afraid they will loose this magical thing when i will see them live. That's what i was afraid of to when seeing Ms Amos perform, but i have to say it almost added some magic. ** On 18 Mar 96, Marion Kippers wrote: >And ehmm - does anybody know 'Snoopy vs. the Red Baron'? Imho this doesn't only applies to piano's. I guess she (she who's very carefull about the words she uses) would have said it otherwise. She said in the interview no _instrument_ is like a Bosendorfer. This seems rather clear to me. >We've already seen her branch out to other keyboard instruments. ::: Yes, that's the point i'm making. She only plays _keyboard_ instruments. I'm curious how she would play a pansfluit, or a xylofoon [don't know the translation...]. >If she wants to open her next album with a 15-minute kazoo concerto, >the Boesendorfer company won't care, just as long as the pianos she >plays elsewhere on the album were made by their factory. ::: Another way to say it, i'm _not_ saying this is the correct explanation, she Bosendorfer made her the best offer, and that's why she's that's positive about that particular factory. Maybe she doesn't really mind the piano she 's playing on... >First of all, do we even know what genre Tori falls into? >"Alternative"? What the hell does that mean? But i guess not the language barrier is giving troubles, rather using two different definitions of 'a gifted musician'. I guess that's what's unclear. Well, I'm a few years older than Tori and it was part of mine. She has older siblings, too, and I believe was exposed to a lot of music through them. I confess that I didn't keep hardly any of my 45 rpm singles from my youth (now though I have a new collection of them) but one that I did keep was The Royal Guardsman's single with "Snoopy Vs. the Red Baron" on one side and "The Return of the Red Baron" on the other. That stuff about the murdered children invited to dance was very spooky, very moving, and very Tori. There are now two bluesy songs (co-written with George Porter, Jr.) on the B-sides of the new album. And of course =...Voodoo= is kind of bluesy jazz. Tori's grandmother was named Addie, not Ernestine (I keep forgetting Meredith hasn't seen the photobio =All These Years=). =George= magazine, huh. OK. "Snoopy vs. the Red Baron" was a novelty hit song (and wasn't there a sequel as well?) by I-can't-remember-which forgettable band many many years ago. Based on the comic strip, of course.
