Hi! Is this thing on? Welcome to the new Tori list! I'm too zonked right now to post anything particularly insightful, except I will mention that I hear there's a British magazine out called Dazed and Confused which contains a nice article and an erm -- Very Interesting Indeed photo. Something about Tori as a vampire. Dunno. Will have to check it out and see what's what. So... any Brits on the list yet who may have seen one of the earliest shows this past week? We're dying for details, if so. I've got a real live review/set of thoughts on _Boys for Pele_ percolating in my brain. This is as good a place as any to put it once I finally get it down in writing... will have to do that soon. But for now, I think I'll just put the disc in the stereo and let it lull me to sleep. :) +===========================================================================+ |Meredith Tarr meth@delphi.com| |Boonton, NJ USA http://remus.rutgers.edu/~woj/meth/| +===========================================================================+ | "nothing's gonna stop me from floating" - Tori Amos | +===========================================================================+ ------------------------------ From: beninten@ix.netcom.com (Tori Lover) Date: Thu, 29 Feb 1996 20:32:53 -0800 Subject: Thoughts Right Now Hi guys, I just thought I'd email you and talk a little about the Goddess. I was first introduced to Tori when UTP came out. I play the piano and fell in love with her music. After awhile I began listening to her lyrics and they really touched home. I soon went out and got Little Earthquakes and that album helped me wade through a lot of religious supression. Tori has been such a huge inspiration in my life I wanted nothing more than to thank her. I finally got my chance about a month ago when she came to Seattle for a radio interview. Only 7 other people showed up, so we were let in the studio and Tori came and signed our things and talked with us. It was so nice to meet her in such an intimate setting, she has this wonderful energy about her. I got to give her a hug and thank her and take a picture with her as she signed my music books. I was happy to give her a letter I wrote for her along with a poem for her written by my boyfriend. I had made her a bracelet out of some awesome indian beads too and put it one her wrist, she told me it was "groovy" and really liked it. She must have liked it pretty well because she wore it on Jay Leno the next night. :) That really meant a lot to me. My opinion on Boys For Pele? I *really* like it. It's the most musically experimental in my opinion so far. I also like how she didn't censor this album. I've heard so many complaints about how it's disturbing and too long and blah blah blah. I think it's a nice length and disturbing doesn't always mean bad. Not all music should be comfortable to listen to. I dont know if Tori could ever make an album that touched me so deeply as Little Earthquakes, but Boys For Pele is certainly an incredible record. Marianne has really been in my head a lot lately. The full orchestra in the background intrigues me and kinda sends me floating. I absolutely love the harmony part in Father Lucifer where 3 Tori's sing together. On thing about Tori, she has AWESOME backups as well as solos. Everthing on this album is just great... the harpsichord adds a great effect, Blood Roses, Professional Widow, Talula.... all beautifully arranged. I just wish these songs would get some airtime. The only one they play around here is Caught A Lite Sneeze, although I've requested Proffessional Widow quite a few times. Hey Jupiter... I know this was mentioned before, but it reminds me so much of the "ooh ooh's" in her cover of Purple Rain. I love the choir singing with Tori on Way Down and the great rythm in Little Amsterdam. The Doughnut song has become one of my favorite Tori songs... ranking up there with Winter, Upside Down, Honey, god... I love em all. ;) I know I have a ton of questions... I'm just going blank right now. Haven't heard much about the UK shows she's done... someone out there has got to dish the gossip. :) I heard she did Bells For Her on the harpsichord... very interesting... very fun to hear. Heh... my friend went to the House of Blues and requested that she play Spacedog but she said she fogot it. Sources tell me she did the same thing with Icicle in a UK show... kinda humerous. She must have ten million songs going through her head right now, I can imagine it's hard to remember and keep your mind straight. When I talked to her she seemed so very exhausted. She had been on a flight from NY that was delayed and was leaving strait from Seattle down to California to do Leno and then House of Blues. What a schedule... whatta woman. ;) Well... I guess I've rambled on long enough I should go do homework. *cringe* Hugs and Sweet Tori Dreams, Angie the lil raisngrl |----------------------------------|-----------------------| |"My strength has been to open up | | |again, to life, and my victory is | beninten@ix.netcom.com| |the fact that, despite it all, I | #Tori=Raisngrl | |kept alive my vulnerability." | | |----------------------------------|-----------------------| ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V1 #13 ************************************
