AND, i keep forgetting to list "gold dust" as one of my favorites. i really like it. two others that are starting their way onto the "favorites" list are "sweet sangria" and "i can't see new york". also, i think someone mentioned that "crazy" sounds like a long-lost sister of the YKTR days. i can totally see what you mean. it has that kind of atmosphere. "crazy" is also my absolute favorite on this album right now, which is funny. i have a thing for track 6 and tori. at one time, "happy phantom" was my favorite on LE. and "iieee", "suede", "rattlesnakes", and "crazy" are still so! *jennifer* ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 01 Nov 2002 17:29:31 -0800 From: shaman Subject: Re: Looks like there will be some kind of second leg to the North American Tour! I know what you mean, woj. "Your Cloud" (a song which, by the way, is so pretty is *scares* me!) reminds me a little, during certain passages, of the Cocteau Twins. Anyone else have that sensation? Now there's an interesting notion: a Tori duet with Elizabeth Fraser. Im wondering, what if someone emailed martian studios and asked them??... Here is a link to their webpage: http://www.martianengineering.com/ Perhaps they would reply w/ some answers?? Hello Everyone! Finally have time to comment on the new album. The feeling I get when listening to the album is that it's like rich, fertile soil that you can let your barefeet sink down into. I get a very earthy vibe from the music. The lands influence definetly comes through in the songs. How'd she do that?!!?? I also get the impression that the songs are like sisters holding each others hands, so that after you listen to one song you can see/hear how it's related to the one before and then after. Until you've listened to the whole album and realize you've taken an expansive journey. And when I very first heard "Amber Waves" I felt like it had a heavy Elton Johnish influence in the music and maybe the song structure. Gods, I love Tori! Sorry, just getting carried away. At a bit past 8:45 she was their final guest, and following a brief interview by Soledad O'Brien she performed a solo piano version of Fairytale on her new custom made Boesendorfer. This arrangement of Fairytale is more laid back in comparison to the live band or studio versions, but I also find it to be more interesting on a "purely musical" basis than the live band versions have been so far, although I'm sure we'll hear development in the band version as the tour progresses--at the shows where she's decided to play it. :-) Some of you who saw this Weekend Today appearance may have noticed Tori subtly asking for higher vocal monitor levels during the performance. I never understand why such things seem to vary so much from the levels during the set up. Some of us had been wondering if she was going to be using this new piano on the tour, and I think at this point we have our answer. A standard Boesey was used for the Letterman, Live with Regis and Kelly, and Last Call with Carson Daly TV appearances (possibly their model 280), so it seems likely this custom piano will be used mainly for certain occasions when the tour piano is otherwise being set up at a venue and Tori needs to perform at a radio station, or when the extra portability factor of this tiny Boesendorfer becomes a major factor. This piano made its debut on 26 August 2002 at the NYC industry showcase Tori performed in a hotel ballroom. A good friend of mine was there and said Tori mentioned that she'd just gotten the piano that day. If anyone who attended some of the Europe radio performances can tell us if this tiny custom piano was used for any of them I'm sure folks would be interested in knowing that. If I end up talking to her again this year I may ask for more details about this piano (when it was commissioned and why, description of the MIDI system it has, what not), but I would encourage anyone else who talks with her who might have interest in knowing these kinds of things about the piano to ask her and to let us know the answers--if Tori says it's okay to share the information. Thanks. If anyone hears that Tori is expected to be on any local radio stations while she's in your city during this coming tour, please let us know so more people will have an opportunity to access it. Thank you all for your time and energy. It means a lot to many of us, including me. Other affiliates came back from commercial . . . had the crew compliment her and then went off the air. Just thought I'd throw that in, as well. "Your Cloud" (a song which, by the way, is so pretty is *scares* me!)" lol I have never heard much of the Cocteau Twins so I left that bit of it off. I just wanted to comment on the bit you said of how pretty it is.. and pose a question to generally everybody.. is it just me, or does "your cloud" sound like a really really beautiful love song? I know in the story that Scarlet's all alone at that point, trying to figure herself out more or less.. but it sounds SO much like a love song to me. am I the only one who thinks so?? lol and.. at the same time.. when she's singing pretty much the whole song, but ESPECIALLY when she sings "where I.. begin..".. I can hear a pretty damn good and particularly strong echo effect.. kinda gives the feeling of being all solitary, ALL on her own, nobody around her for miles, etc.. Sincerely, Cyndi S. I'm on a few mailing lists that involve her--chatting about her and her work, etc. Anyway, I haven't dealt with this personally yet (I haven't listened to it in the car yet), but quite a few people are expressing some complaints regarding the sound in the car being too bassy and drowning out Tori's voice and piano--and yet the sound on their home stereos or CD walkmans' is just right and they can hear everything perfectly, and yet every other album of her's sounds like it should when they are played in the car. Could you perhaps explain a possible reason as to why this is the case? Thank you! Sincerely, Cyndi S. Crawford Sincerely, Cyndi S.
