The thoroughly modern piano banging chanteuse (who many a young female singer-songwriter tries unsuccessfully to emulate) is slated to release her next studio album, Scarlet's Walk, in October on Epic Records. The album was recorded in one of the most spiritual places in the western world, Cornwall, England the area where King Arthur and The Knights of the Round Table roamed. Amos self-produced the album which brought her together with longtime collaborators drummer Matt Chamberlain (Bowie, Fiona Apple) and bassist Jon Evans. A US tour will shortly follow the album's release, with international dates to follow. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Jul 2002 10:48:26 -0700 (PDT) From: "K. Fischer" Subject: Tori mentions in NY magazine In the July 22 issue of New York the cover article is about Kevyn Aucoin. There is a picture of him and Tori inside, and the article mentions that she lent him the use of her Florida house for vacations. The article is interesting if you are a fan of Kevyn's, but it is also very sad. Apparently he was in a lot of pain for quite some time and had become heavily addicted to pain killers, which partly lead to his death. He was also in danger of losing clients because his addiction had gotten so out of hand. I wondered how much of this Tori was aware of since it wasn't that long ago that he did the Strange Little Girls photo shoots with her. The article also shows that the media was fairly quiet about the details of his death and illness, which I think is a show of respect. I just find it very sad that someone who gave so much happiness to others was in so much pain, and I will really miss seeing the new faces he would have painted on Tori. It features performances by her long-time collaborators Jon Evans on bass and Matt Chamberlain (Bowie, Fiona Apple) on drums. Listen out for the first single, "A Sorta Fairytale," on your radio in late August. When is news not really news? Well, in this instance, for one. Be seeing you, Richard Handal, H.G. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Jul 2002 21:20:11 -0400 From: mysterilady2001@cs.com Subject: Re: bimbetta and tori Hi Becka & EWF ~ Hmmm... yes, Bimbetta. She covered "Leather" a few years back as I recall. Odd version. If I remember correctly she sings classical opera in Italian, though the cover is in english. I listened to the track once, I don't have an mp3. As a collector I do collect albums that T's covered songs are on but I don't generally listen to them more than once. An exception might be the occasional listening to the Precious Things string quartet album & selected tracks off of the Songs of a Goddess album, some of those are quite nice, though Tori always suits my taste. Why drink common rhine when you can have bordeaux? About 20 or so acts have covered Tori, some are easier to obtain than others. Still another dozen or so have sampled T, though more & more of these are appearing yearly as many times she is never given credit so no one knows unless its picked up on by an ewf or the record label. OK, more than asked for. I've had chocolate. Please forgive. 2:19AM UK Toodles ~ MysT *Wondering when T's photos for the new album were taken & if Kevyn did her make-up for them before becomming ill & passing on. I think T will have loving words in the liner dedicated to him. **Still no SW promo on eBay. My guess is August 1st, maybe a few days before. *** > >Date: Sat, 20 Jul 2002 16:04:54 -0400 >From: "Becka" >Subject: bimbetta and tori > >I'm not sure if anyone has ever stumbled across this, but in my pilfering of >Amazon for wish items,.. under Classical.. A Signing of Epic Proportions New York, NY - Epic Records is pleased to announce the signing of Tori Amos, one of the most celebrated and respected artists of the last decade. Tori is a unique talent whose distinctive voice and thought provoking songs have mesmerized and inspired a generation of fans throughout the world. She represents a proud addtion to the Epic Records Family. Scarlet's Walk, her Epic Records debut, may very well be her most inviting release to date. It is a sonic novel of sorts which takes the listener on an aural journey of America's recent and not-so-recent past. As the store moves from coast to coast, questions are asked and notions are challenged wich each song representing a specific stop along the way. In the middle of it all roams Scarlet, "...who may be the land and may be a person and may be a trail of blood" (Neil Gaiman). The disc was self-produced and recorded in Cornwall, England (the same audio as several of her other releases). It features performancesby her long-time collaborators Jon Evans on bass and Matt Chamberlain (Bowie, Fiona Apple) on drums. The record's first single "A Sorta Fairytale" will be serviced to radio in late August. In support of the album, Tori will embark on a headlining tour of the United States this fall with international dates to follow. Worldwide, Tori's critically acclaimed discography includes the 1992 multi-platinum breakthrough album Little Earthquakes and 1994's Under the Pink, as well as the platinum successes Boys for Pele, From the Choirgirl Hotel, and To Venus and Back. Her most recenyt "reinterpretations" record, Strange LIttle Girls, is certified gold. FOr her world she has received eight Grammy Nominations. so far, no mp3s of the sampler tracks have surfaced...but i'm sure they will eventually... woj ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V7 #162 *************************************
