Well, Bachlorette is just OK. In the world of Tori songs, OK doesn't really cut it. It sounds like it's just Tori having fun and goofing around, and that's fine and all, but it lacks a lot of the power and intricacy of her other material. The song produces no emotional involvement from me. I'm not saying it's awful, but it doesn't hold a candle to most of Tori's other material. Lil Amsterdam vacillates between irritating and boring to me. I know so many others love it, but to me it just drags on and on. I dislike the rhythm. I'm actually hard pressed to say anything positive about this song. I was so bummed out she played it in Philly on the last tour. I was like "of all the songs she could play tonight, she plays my least favorite." Thank god she played Mother right afterwards. toodles, Tom "All the carnage of my journeys makes it harder to be livin' He said, 'It's a long road to be forgiven." It just took time for me to grok them. I'm all about lyrics, so when I can't get a handle on a song's meaning it turns me off. Hence, I needed to hear from Tori what iieee was about before I could dig it. Twinkle needed to incubate in my head before I could understand it. toodles, Tom "All the carnage of my journeys makes it harder to be livin' He said, 'It's a long road to be forgiven." Well I agree, but these two are my favourites! I love them both.... I prefer listening to FTCH during spring and summer, and BFP during winter an fall.... Maybe that's because choir bring me water for hot days and pele brings me fire for cold days... That's quite funny, right? However, I really adore these both CDs Kasia "Tam - milion moich s3sw; tam - lec9 i te." ~Cyprian Kamil Norwid~ "give me life, give me pain, give me myself again" ~Tori Amos~ "we can't see clear but what we see is alright" ~Sonic Youth~ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 27 May 2002 13:20:09 +0200 From: "Kasia" Subject: cloud on my tongue interp >ratatoullie dee >who is happy she can play the intro to cloud on my >tounge...over and over and >over... ;D talking about cloud on my tongue.... how do you interpretate this song? I'm so curious to know! I'm asking because if you were one of the fans that got to see a concert.. of which a song was selected to be put on the live CD.. do you have memories of SEEING her perform the song while you hear it again and again? I'm sure you do, but.. do tell about it! :) Sincerely, Cyndi S. You didn't just get 200 people all saying "Kate Bush!", which I'm > sure Tori would be relieved about... I mean, Kate is fab, but The Church of > Tori is a damn site broader than some might give us credit for :-) I'm a bit late on this thread, but I wanted to toss out a couple of more recommendations: 1. The Geraldine Fibbers - This relatively unknown band was short-lived but put out some *amazing* music. In my book, they're the best musical entity of the '90's, second only to a certain piano-playing woman I think we're all familar with. ;-) The lead singer (and songwriter) is a woman named Carla Bozulich who is a brilliant lyricist/poet with a unique (and highly addictive) voice. If you're interested, start with "Lost Somewhere Between the Earth and My Home". That album, while very different in style from Tori, is devastating. 2. I second the Sleater-Kinney recommendation. "All Hands on the Bad One" in particular is a wonderful and powerful album. ("Culture is what we make it, yes it is, now is the time to invent!" Right on!) 3. Random other recommendations all lumped together: o Quasi - The Sword of God o Rufus Wainwright - Rufus Wainwright o Death Cab for Cutie - The Photo Album o Modest Mouse - The Lonesome Crowded West o Perhaps not related in substance to Tori, but with female lead-singers I like: Stereolab, Portishead, Cocteau Twins, Heather Duby. - -bt - -- - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.well.com/~btanaka/tori - Gxis la kokino, oreloj kun futoj... - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V7 #115 *************************************
