Little Blue World is pleased to announce a special first anniversary issue, due in early May. Here's some of what you'll find: * Cover Story: LBW takes its readers inside the official archive maintained for Tori and her family since 1976. We introduce you to the archivist and show you his unique collection; until now, the existence of the archive has been kept private, and we're thrilled to be the first to bring this story to the Toriphile community. * Two experienced organizers talk about what worked and what didn't work at their RAINN birthday party fundraisers last year, and offer advice to help you run a successful party of your own. * Plus regular features like Tori Story, Ask the Expert, Reader Submissions, and a new feature offering recipes inspired by Tori songs. An annual 4-issue subscription to LBW is US$15 (US$21 outside North America). For more details on the upcoming issue and how to subscribe, go to . And if you have a personal or Tori-related website, please link to us! A banner is available at our site. Now, i can't relate to winter, but i could see how deep she was, definitely. i ended up going on last, and getting to talk for a couple of minutes about the song, while the accompianist repeated the intro, and not having to mock it at all. of all my performances, that stands out as my favorite. just had more meaning. more depth. I called the store, asked for the same guy, and asked him to order her cd's for me, please. he did, i listened, i cried, i creamed, the end. let's see... that was back in.... 1994?? junior year? jeez! stuff, micah ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Apr 2002 12:44:13 -0400 From: Subject: Re: Re: Tomb-like Tomb? The TOMB is the Tori Online Music Bank, and is intended to be a free repository of high-quality complete live concerts. The idea is that people will be able to download any show they'd like and burn them to CD-R at any time. /nm ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Apr 2002 11:49:31 -0500 From: "mr zebra" Subject: Re: what did it? For me it had to be after I purchased LE way back in High School (92). I got to the point where I listened to it a least a couple of times every day (mostly I kept rewinding & playing Precous Things over & over) and I had the cassette at the time so when my walkman(there's an obsolete word lol) would eat the tape (which was often) I would actually unscrew the tape so i could put it back together. Even since then I absolutely love her good or bad. :) That tape really helped me get thru High School. >From: Cyndi S Crawford >To: precious-things@smoe.org >Subject: what did it? >Date: Mon, 22 Apr 2002 08:05:41 -0400 > > > All right, I don't want things to die down in here again, so... > > Okay, so what exactly was THE defining moment that turned you >people into Toriphiles? I think this is one of the things that add to the richness of the music. Having the meaning in such metaphors remain undefined this way keeps more mystery in the music. It serves to engage--even challenge--the listener by leaving it to them to create their own associations with the song. I think it's wonderful that Micah pointed out that Tori can add this extra dimension even to songs she didn't write. :-) This is exactly the kind of thing that makes the music perfect for the internet. There's always plenty of room for discussion. Be seeing you, Richard Handal, H.G. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Apr 2002 18:38:08 -0400 From: Subject: Re: something to talk about On Mon, 22 Apr 2002 15:31:53 EDT ToriLiscious@cs.com wrote: > in "Not in Love", when she keeps repeating > about the picture being on the wall, hiding a > nasty stain still lying there.... is she trying > to make it into an abuse thing, where there was > once blood on the wall from a fight?? is the > stain a metaphor for a shitty relationship? > opinions, please. No, I don't think that she is. The song is about a guy who won't admit that he's in love, even though he does all of the things one normally associates with a relationship. They talk all the time, and he has her picture on the wall. His excuse for putting her picture up is that it's hiding a stain on the wall, not because he wants it up there to remind himself of her. He won't admit to anyone, especially not himself, that he loves her. Tori's take on the song appears to be that if he's not going to admit it now, he's not going to admit it ever, and it's time for her to move on. There's nothing more sinister going on. /nm ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Apr 2002 22:34:17 EDT From: RHPSshock@aol.com Subject: Nasty Stain (was Re: something to talk about) Here are my opinions about the nasty stain lyric: 1) on one level s/he is saying "look, I probably wouldn't have put your picture up, you don't really matter that much, but there was this stain on my wall, and your picture was handy..." 2) on another level, it is a metaphor for the lover's place in their life. The narrator (be it the male version or the female version) was once hurt...and then developed a mindset in which they refused to believe that they could fall in love with someone as means of protection. They try to believe that the relationship is all fun for them, and doesn't mean a thing....covering up their fear of more pain (the stain) with something nice, safe, and temporary (the picture). I know that Tori says that the woman in her version does not love the man. And I see why Tori believes that. But I do not believe that for myself. Well, actually, I take that back. I do believe that she does not love this particular man. The character was just having a bit of fun with this guy...but she is very capable of love, and does love others. Just not this guy. lol. So, I personaly do not believe the stain is from physical abuse, but more likely from the pains of loosing someone you love. I thought it was very neat that Tori made a character who is into BDSM....and the character does go along nicely with the song. One of my favorites on SLG. Of course, these are all just my opinions, and if not everyone agrees...hey, that's life. I'd love to hear about what other people have to say. :) Toodles, Angelina. ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V7 #84 ************************************
