[Mysterilady2001@cs.com] washington 10/06/01 offer ["n'woj" ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Sun, 3 Feb 2002 08:15:21 EST From: Mysterilady2001@cs.com Subject: Entertainment Weekly this week - Nay & YAY! Hi ya EWF, So, there I was, sleepily flipping pages of my newly arrived Entertainment Weekly magazine when who's name jumps off the page but our own Tori. Normally this is a good thing, yes? However, given the article I was pissed. It seems the folks over at ew have found the timing of Tori leaving Atlantic to be in the same vein as Mariah leaving Virgin - or should I say Mariah being kicked the hell out by Virgin. (Entertainment Weekly, #638, Feb. 8, 2002, News Notes, "Money Honey", p. 6-7) "Last year, labels suffered their biggest sales downturn in 18 years. As a result, music bosses are looking to cut costly, underperforming acts from their rosters. Atlantic recently parted ways with Tori Amos, Rod Stewart and Collective Soul, while Warner Bros. quietly ended its relationship with Van Halen." I've written ew. Tori had been with Atlantic for 13 years, releasing 7 albums. In NO WAY is Tori's changing record labels - which artists often DO after their contract is up - in any way like what has happened with Mariah. Mariah signed a new 80 million dollar contract with Virgin that was to included 5 albums. After her first album with them bombed Virgin chose to buy her out for 28 million, thus ending her contract with Virgin. Anyone else pissed? Stupid press. On the other hand there's this: In the same issue of ew there's a 3/4 page article on the HBO prison drama OZ. (HBO Takes a Musical Journey Into the Land of 'Oz', "Songs In The Key Of Lifers", p. 60) It seems there will be an episode on February 10th where the inmates & prison staff SING! This came about because the prisoner who typically narrates the show - Augustus Hill, played by Harold Perrineau - needed to take leave for one show to film a part in 'The Matrix' sequels. Thus the shows creator was left to figure out how to get around the pivotal character's MIA status & so came up with the offbeat musical-fantasy segments the various characters will sing. Enter Father Ray Mukada (B.D. Wong) - a Catholic priest who works at the prison - who will "reveals a kinky side with a suggestive rendition of Tori Amos' "Leather." Pic attached. Oh-man-oh-man this is gonna be FUN! I LOVE OZ! Below is a link to the HBO/OZ website, though they only focus on the current show and past shows. After tonight's show airs next weeks musical show will be the sites focus of the week. http://www.hbo.com/oz/ Yin & Yang Toodles ~ MysT *Wendi - No problemo, I understood ya. Every time I read/see more about the murders in Juarez I get increasingly upset. As a born 'n bred Southern Californian I can tell you all that if you ever decide to venture into Mexico be extremely careful. While there are places south of the border that are absolutely beautiful, people there with kind hearts; there is also the polar opposite - as we saw in the 20/20 Downtown story. I'm sad they didn't include T's 'Juarez' in the segment, it would have perfectly fit the story's tone. **The last t-shirt I would ever buy is one with the name Juarez on it. Next is "Free Wynona" - Let the Oxycoton-popping rich-chick serve her time, like anyone else who stole 5 grand in stuff & had unprescribed pills in her possession. She'll likely pay the judge off & get a hand slap though. Maybe Bettlejuice will fix everything for the Girl, Interrupted - Ha! *** [demime 0.97c removed an attachment of type image/jpeg which had a name of WONGLE~1.JPG] ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 03 Feb 2002 20:01:26 -0500 From: "n'woj" Subject: washington 10/06/01 offer finished downloading the first washington show yesterday (thanks to marla and maria!), so it's time to make the customary trade/b&p offer. :) as per usual, i'll do an unlimited number of b&p's (either audio discs or a data disc with the shns) for anyone who wants/needs this show. if you've done a b&p with me in the past and still have my address handy, just go ahead and send me the disc(s) and fire off an e-mail to let me know that you're doing so. if you haven't done a b&p with me, send me a note and i'll give you the details. woj ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V7 #30 ************************************
